Over the last 8 years, I have come across various funny characters in the forum, from the delphi days to BMW-SG.com. Besides the usual lowballers, the over-prudent bidders, the repetitve enquirers (where to buy tyres, for instance), there are few legends who struck me hard:
(1) The Traffic Police Logistics inspector - this chap scalped junkyards for parts, refurbished them and sold them in this forum. He passed them off as "used parts" from overseas. This chap even has a police uniform hanging in his e46 coupe back then. He said he works in Traffic Police Logistics when some forumers caught his email's domain as tpl.com.sg. Times Publishing Limited, it was. Classic conman. Many lao jiao will comment on this chap.
(2) The Arbitrageur - this chap buys and sells stuffs between forums. Example he will buy a watch in VAG.SG and try to offload here. My personal encounter with him was classic. He said his digit "3" was pried off from his trunk, so I offered mine, since he asked for it FOC in the forum, and since I debadged my ride. 2 weeks later, I saw his ride at BVO, his 320i became 330i.
(3) The Ultra-lowballer - I encounter this chap in my first e46, when I dekitted. I listed all the parts, and all parts were reserved. This chap reserved my pedals, footrest and gearknob for $50, after negotiating from $80. On that actual day, he went down to BVO and got Ah Wee to transfer the parts....... after the installation, he asked "bro, I am quite broke now, can deal at $30 or not? Oh also, seller bears installation charges, right?" and he kept bargaining and bargaining...... I was so pissed I asked Ah Wee to remove them and gave it to forumer Winston for free right in his face !!!
(4) The Credit Shopper - this chap ordered a set of DPEs from me. After placing a deposit and I have proceeded with the order, he asked me this 2 weeks later "so what tyres are you giving me?" I explained to him that the prices are quoted for wheels alone, and tyres are not inclusive in the prices. He ranted and ranted...... then 1 week before the wheels arrived, he asked for interest-free credit card installment plan. He said shops like Leong Seng and Hurry he can use his credit card for interest free installments. Not to mention that he will lugi on credit card points. I explained that I am a freelancer and do not have a shopfront. He suggested that I should offer installment programme myself, and that forumers, being BMW owners, will not run away and default. This was, of course, before Lehman collapsed.
What's your "memorable" experiences here?
