Garmin GPS

From what i understand 660 is basically a 610 that comes bundled with either US or Euro map. No need to buy this bundle if using in Singapore.

I hear that if you buy from overseas, for warranty issues, you need to ship it to Garmin in Taiwan for repairs. No local agent.

For Singapore use, 610 comes with SG/MAL maps. Price is about $1090 at PW.

660 has a FM Transmitter for the MP3 player which the 610 does not have.

Re: Garmin GPS

I don't feel that the extra S$510 that the 660 costs over the 610 is justified.

That $550 pays for 3 things:
1) Traffic receiver (not supported in S'pore/M'sia)
2) Speaks street names (I get irritated by it)
3) FM transmitter for audio (sound quality not acceptable to me)

But different strokes for different folks...

Come to think about it, I might agree with you.

Thanks T6, it would be nice if they updated the maps. Was considering getting the Garmin over the installed OEM setup as the map CD in there is also a few years old. Guessing an update of the CD would cost not much more then some of the Garmin series. :)

Heard that there is a free map update for Garmin, is this true?

Yeah Portsdown passthru isnt there in the current when I tested the 310. It was a drive into the wilderness. May be getting the 610 shortly.

Yes, go Google malsing.com. That is an enthusiast website where you can download free maps of Spore and Msia in Garmin format. I use the maps from malsing for my trips up North. The Spore maps in malsing are also updated very frequently. The Portsdown Highway will be in the malsing version. :)

Re: Garmin GPS

Went to PW to get the nuvi 610 today. No stock, someone just bought it while I was speaking to the sales person. Where else would you guys recommend to get one?

They were trying to sell me the nuvi 3xx series but I would prefer a larger screen.

OT: The person there said the maps might be 2006 but not sure. Also they weren't aware of the maps being updated anytime soon.

Saw only the nuvi 660 for sale. Would you be getting a 610 on ebay if you can find one?

Re: Garmin GPS

One of my friend planning to purchase 5 units of Nuvi 660 with out any maps. He was mentioning to me that it is from UK with international warranty. He has not confirmed the price. It may be around S$900. Is any one interested to buy let me know.

Best to find out what is the international warranty process is like. Whether any SG distributor will repair it or you need to send to Taiwan. If S$900, thats not bad a price.

Thanks T6, had already tried them. No stock for the nuvi 610 as well. They do have the nuvi 660 though, sooo.... tempting.

Re: Garmin GPS

660 the only real advantage the 660 has seems to be the Euro maps that come with it. We can't use the majority of the extra features it has over the 610
