Garmin GPS

Re: Garmin GPS

Ok, took some pic, easier to explain that way.

This is the base for Garmin Dashmount. It is double-sided taped right now

With the mounting arm. The cable running in front of the mount is the car charger that came with Nuvi, I had it wired to my ignition, turned on when I start my engine, it also helps keep the Nuvi charged.

Last pic, with Nuvi mounted.

Again, not sure if Perfect Watch sells it or any Garmin dealer here carry the mount I am using.

There is a 14-page long discussion on how people with Nuvi mounting theirs in their car .. I am sure you can find a way that best suits you.

Re: Garmin GPS

KT,

Juz got my Nivi 310. Luv it. Blardy accurate. The mount given is slightly diff from yours. The dashboard mount provided is juz a flat disc. The holder with the suction pad is then mounted on this flat disc. I will post pics once I run my charging cable neatly.

Congrates !! I have that too but I itchy, bought another one.

I just found out that the TTS on my 350 can speak Kopi very accurately .. hehe.

Must let me try your map.

Re: Garmin GPS

Any one getting the new Nuvi 360 with Bluetooth? How's the suction power with these Garmins? And how do I tap the power source from the car and have the wiring nicely hidden away?

The price diff between the Nuvi 310 and 360 will deter people from getting the Nuvi 360. The price diff is $650. The 360 comes preloaded with extra Europe maps which I dun need. The only advantage is that in addition to the voice guide telling u to turn left or right etc, it will read out the name of the road that u have to turn into. But because it is a text-to-speech, pronunciation, it may turnout funny. I was told they will pronounce "Changi Rd" as "Changai Rd" as the ang mohs dunno how to pronounce our local roads.

The Nuvi 310 already can verbally tell u turn left 100 metres etc and also has bluetooth like the Nuvi 360. Hence I decided 310 gd enuff. The $650 diff can buy me a K800i.

As for suction mounting, it wld not be a long term solution. Shd do a proper car mount. As for the wiring etc, any mechanic or ICE shop worth their salt shd be able to do it for a few tens. But they will have to cut your charhing cable to do that which means if u want to travel overseas with your Nuvi, u cannot charge using cigarette lighter socket. But u can still charge using your laptop vis a supplied USB cable.

Don't do it that way .. if you want to see how mine is done, let me know.

Essentially you need the following:

1. Pigtail from Autobac - S$5.60
2. Cig socket extension - S$10
3. Buy me lunch

I can fix it for you and you can continue to use the original car charger as it is .. no need to cut. Don't waste it.

Disclaimer: only know how to wire up GTi, not familiar with other car's fuse box layout but the idea would work for any car as long as you know which spare to use.

Yeah, KT to the rescue!. Lunchie is no problemo. Sure wld like to checkout your laying of the wire. I hope the wire is long enough coz I am gonna need to place my Nuvi between the center air-con outlet (the one blowing up to the windscreen) and the elevated dash housing the meters. Can't mount mine near the A pillar coz of my after-mkt tweeter which is already mounted near the A pillar.

Re: Garmin GPS

T6, the car charger cable is very long, don't worry, can be done.

Re: Garmin GPS

Hi T6,
Can tell my how much you paid for the Nuvi 310 at Perfect Watch as well?

On another note, i saw you have BBS CH on your ride, could you direct me to a BBS dealer on the island as i am interested on the 19" CH as well. I need to call them and check out the offsets for my E90. So, a phone number would be of much help, thank you.

I paid $1,050 all in at Perfect Watch.

BBS CH rims were ordered from SouthEast. Mine are 18. They are listed in the Resource Folder above.

Last I heard u cannot get 19" BBS CH anymore, only 18". Was also told CH is a 7 year old model so BBS is slowly phasing it out and production has dropped significantly.

Re: Garmin GPS

Hi Chickenbackside,

Re: Garmin GPS

came across this good thread for discussion on garmin.
i have a few queries about 310 for those who owns it.TIA:cloud9:

-when will the malaysia map be released?when it's released, do we still have to pay for it assuming i have bought the 310?

-how long can the battery last assuming i do not want to plug it into the cig lighter.

-any problems mounting on vkooled windscreen with the suction cup?will the vkool 'decolorised' or turn translucent over time?

-any reception probs with vkool?

-any reception probs assuming normal driving in sgp?less tunnels that is.

i called perfect world and they do not have 360.

I shall attempt to answer as I have bought a Nuvi 310:

(i) Locally sold Nuvi 310 comes packaged with Spore + Johor maps. For maps on other parts of Msia, you can download free maps from Malsing web-site (a Garmin enthusiasts web-site. Shan't try to explain more. Will leave u to google and read for yourself. Very detailed web-site).

(ii) battery life 4 to 8 hours according to the manual.

(iii) I don't mount using the suction alone. I use the supplied dash mount together with the suction mount. Basically, u mount this flat dish on your dash. The suction than goes on top of the flat dish. Very neat.

(iv) No prob with reception though my ride V-kooled.

(v) Went I bought my Nuvi 310 abt 2 weeks back, Perfect Watch still had stock of Nuvi 360 unless they are sold out now.

T6,

Ups for the review and my doubts.
The nuvi 360 is more for european countries though u still can use it local +msia. Adequately, the 310 should suffice for most.

Cheers.

Re: Garmin GPS

thanks t6.
wat vkool u using btw?mine is vkool70 front windscreen which is 'illegal'.
i have problems with my transponder entering my own apartments

i did run through the malsing website.i saw so many updates i dont even know which one to dl.is there specifically one that can dl the entire msia map?or i can only dl one town by one town?pardon me in advance if it's leichey for you to ans me as u've told me to surf it myself but i'm totally lost :nehnehhh: :)

Re: Garmin GPS

Jeanie,
I can say all that T6 mentioned is correct. In addition, yr question:
"-any reception probs assuming normal driving in sgp?less tunnels that is."

U will lose satellite reception when in CTE tunnel or inside basement carparks, simple bcos the building cut off the reception need for GPS to operate. But its no big deal, our tunnels are short, the moment u get out of CTE underground u regain reception very quickly. The GARMIN is also able to pretty able to get good reception even though you hv trees around.
