Help! I dented my 528i

Hi bros, I was exiting the Wisma Atria carpark 2 days ago, and when negotiating the 90 degrees turn to the carpark ramp, I brushed the left side of my car against the wall. ouch !!

Fortunately, the wall was protected with some rubber thingy, and the F10's excellent "2k paintwork" (that's what the PML guy told me) protected it from being scratched. However, there was a little dent on the car door. The dent was not deep and not readily apparent, but is noticeable if you stare at the car.

I asked the PML bodywork guy whether he can fix it, he said no. He said that because the body was made of aluminum, he cannot panel beat it back. He said that the only way out is to change the whole door.... The price? 2-3k !!

Any bros have any experience with this, and whether the people outside can fix this? In addition, will this void the warranty (since this is not an engine related issue)?

On a separate issue, any bros have problems with their undercarriage brushing against humps, especially when going out of the basement carparks? My F10 seems to always hit it, and I have to go really really slow to avoid that.

Thanks!

Re: Help! I dented my 528i

My car had a deep and long dent previouslyl, very much like wobble's. Had it done by revol's and the dent master. Didn't took 3 hours but they did a pretty good job removing it. If yours involving the door, should be much easier as they can access with much ease. Mine was at the rear fender involving one of the curve. But beautiful job at the end.

Re: Help! I dented my 528i

don't say like that la ... as AD first response is sure change door ... change this and that
they are not specialist in bodywork repair and faster, cheaper and better solution for owner is not thier highest priority
my answer is ... if not big job that also involve engine damage / major electical fault (ie door sensor, alarm, wirings, etc) and under warranty .... forget AD ...
just change oil and filter (except robot car) is more than enough to fill up their job schedules liao :D

change door for a small dent? the fellow 'tao nao pai' sibo?

Re: Help! I dented my 528i

there are actually alot of non-forum folks who are totally reliant on AD and not much knowledge of outside workshops.
so telling them to replace a door bcos of a dent is, to me, not really that responsible or helpful to them.
at least tell them they can only do door changes bcos of co sop or something or at least tell them go outside look for alternatives.
did they offer u any advice like that Primus22?
since they are in this biz, they aint like hiding in some cave rite? dent repair is not something new or foreign.

my only grouse with alot of the ADs and bigger workshops is that they are not interested in spending time to resolve small issues but instead tell customers to spend on unnecessary stuff which makes it easier for themselves but end up burning a hole in the customers' pocket.
for example, if any of you E92 or E60lci bros try walking in to PML with your AE ring wires exposed (which is a pretty common problem), chances are they will tell u to replace the whole headlight set instead of telling u it can be solved with some black tape or silicon.

just my 2 cents.

Actually 2-3K for a door change is relatively "cheap" compared to what Borneo charged my boss' LS460's 2 doors change due kena brushed by taxi - it costs him 14K !!!

Re: Help! I dented my 528i

Dear Primus,

Munich Automobiles has a dedicated Paint and Dent repair team, so unlike other ADs we do Spot Dent Repair such as the situation that you are facing. Come by for a free valuation, you will be surprised at the costs. Let me know and I will personally arrange it.

Thanks MA.

I just got back from Revols, and they told me that the dent on my door is quite long. Unlike bro Woffles' dent, mine is longish, and they said that they can fix it but may have to panel beat it a bit. Thereafter, they will be smoothing it with cement and finally, they will then need to re-spray that part with paint. They also spotted another dent (which PML didn't) near the rear wheel. That part, again needs to be beaten, cemented, and the re-sprayed. I can't do the paintless removal because it won't be perfect.

I raised a concern on whether the paint will look exactly the same, and with same quality etc. They told me as a matter of fact that it will be very very close to the original. However, this is not like original BMW paintwork (if there is such a thing). It will be perfect if not close.

As it will take 2 days at least, I did not leave my car there but promised to return on Friday morning to get it fixed.

Total costs? S$1,318 - which is actually $1,218 for a grooming package for 5 times plus 6 free car wash. The dent repair, cement, respray? - Grand sum of S$100 if I sign up for the package.

I am not an accountant or anything, but it sounds like a no-brainer... Will update later after the experience... At least I got home today a bit happier - now that there is some light at the end of the tunnel :)

Re: Help! I dented my 528i

If it is not apparent and only noticeable if you stare at that particular point, I would keep the original paintwork and leave it. The worst thing is getting it resprayed and the colour match is way off. I have seen many doors resprayed where the colour is so different, especially on matt finishes and it looks awful.

Re: Help! I dented my 528i

If the dent is too deep u have no option but to panel beat, putty, sand and respray....normally its easier to get a close match for dark color paintwork but not for silver...its difficult to match and u may need to spray a complete side.....from my experience.

Re: Help! I dented my 528i

if pdr can solve 95% where dent is hardly notice until you stare it closely and long because you knew it, it's bearable and acceptable
drive for another 6 months or so sure got dings and chips here and there especially you travel NSH. then respray whole car exterior even better.

Ang white too... Especially for older cars.....

On another note. 100 for all the work is damn ridiculously cheap! I had some scratches on my e60 front bumper once. Cost me 200 dollars just for respraying, think they only did the side and not the whole bumper
