Say if you have 2 kids, age 2+ to 3 and the younger one still an infant requiring rear-facing car seat and needs to be attended to, it would be impossible to have the older kid in a forward facing car seat in the front passenger seat with front airbag, how do you guys manage? anyone have a way round this?
anyways, its good to know there are guys out there with family of 2 kids not going for MPV........i guess the alternatives are there its just whether one wants to take the conventional route or do some adapting....

The Mixmaster;182634 said:Actually, there is one way to get a kid into the back seat without sliding the front seat - just open the roof and then plunk the kid into the rear seat.
The Mixmaster;182392 said:I love 2-door cars but in my view, you can only contemplate owning a 2-door coupe/cabriolet/roadster if it is a 2nd car or you do not need to carry much luggage around, say on driving trips to Malaysia or when you go to Changi airport to pick up your family members. Most 2-door cars have limited luggage space, especially the cabriolets/roadsters when their roofs are stowed away.
If one's child is less than 3 years old, then a 2-door coupe/cab is not practical because of the inconvinience of getting the child in and out of the car. In this case, a 4-door sedan is necessary. After the child is 4 years old and can get in and out mostly by himself/herself, then it is fine. Most adults can get in and out with no problems, unless they are quite old.
Another thing to note is that cabriolets and roadsters with soft tops have poorer noise insulation. When you travel at high speeds on the NS highway, it will certainly be less comfortable than a hardtop. Will your family members be able to tolerate it?
No doubt, a soft-top car is a lifestyle and a compromise car. However, the times when you can enjoy a cool evening drive under the stars and early morning dawn drive when the sun is just breaking out makes it worthwhile.
If you have the chance to own a roadster in your lifetime, do it as well. A 2-seater car driving experience is different and must be experienced at least once in your lifetime. It does not need to be an expensive roadster. There are many affordable and good roadsters to own as long as you don't need to own the latest models.
I currently own a 2-door/4-seater cabriolet and a 4-door sedan. I am contemplating swapping the 4-door sedan to another cabriolet. My heart says YES, but my head says NO.

Although I don't own a bimmer (not yet anyway), I share similar concerns with many bros here. I currently drive a 350z and its great for my other half and me now. However, going fwd as my family expands, I'm thinking what I'm going to do with the car.
Personally, I love coupes and do I agree with Mixmaster that owning a roadster/coupe is something to experience at least once in your life time, preferably when you're still relatively young.
As such I'm wondering if a 2+2 coupe would be comfortable enough for a young family/baby seat? How old your kids can grow to b4 it becomes a pain? My parents & in-laws are rarely in Singapore, maybe 2-3x a year so for those times, we can suffer some inconvenience I suppose. (although they have made passing comments on my 2 seater..hehe)
I'm thinking of (a) get a 5 series which I guess will solve a lot of practical problems but it is not as exciting a drive? or (b) get a 2+2 (thinking of a e46 330 or e46 M3 if I can find one) (c) buy a cheap MPV like a 2nd hand Wish/Stream + a Z4 for myself
Of course the best option would be an M5 but I can't afford it! :-D
I think option (a) would be the cheapest from my back of the envelope calculations...should I use my head or use my heart here?
Cheers,
B

bot a cabrio bec wanted to live a childhood dream... wife got hooked as well... along with my boy... n its oredi 2yrs liao... got accustomed to all the inconveniences (space constrain/ noise -gruppeM & SuperSprint)
now its worst... got addicted to power/handling/drive... n current cab getting old... n another kid came along...
so now... looks like i have to go the 2 cars path as well...
no doubt as the Odessey is cheap/good n serves all family's purposes n needs... but both my wife n i agree that non of us will enjoy the drive... so how? i have given her
something "nice" all these while... now she doesnt want anything less... knn![]()
so we decided to "try" (within the budget/practical) to get a sporty SUV/wagon...in the 2nd hand market only...
i would very much like to hear all ur views/comments on the choices
1. XC90 2.5T (hear a fellow forumer with a 325 got chiat by a suppED up version)
2. Forrester 2.0/2.5T ( heard it handles better than the airtrek)
3. Legacy 2.0/2.5T sportswagon (the new 2.5T version has 250bhp 0-100 6.5s)
4. Audi A4 1.8T avant / Passat variant
turbo cars has more Modding potential... hence the above choices...
as for the 2nd car.... anybody knows any of the 8 that wants to sell their M3 cab?![]()

Sick and tired of 4 doors. Infact 80% of the time, it is only my wifey and me in the car.So I decided since buying a E92 or E60 also deprciate that much, might as well pay for a nice drive and ride. :laughlik:
Damn why were you driving a 4-door all these years?Azrielsc;182779 said:2 doors is good, 4 doors is bad!IMO!!!
