if your M3 is from Munich Auto... then please by all means go back to Munich Auto.

if your M3 was bought long ago from PML (pre Munich Auto days).... please visit Munich Auto for the feel good Authorised distributor feeling

if your M3 was bought from PI route... I hope you have a good warranty... and you should return to that workshop which your PI dealer has appointed.

if your M3 was bought from PI route... but say the PI closed shop and the subsequent warranty is voided.... then.... excuse me lady.... you are up a S*%t creak without a paddle.... good luck.

oh by the way.... if you need to be so absolutely precise in your engine oil measurement.... please use a pyrex measuring jar to measure out your engine oil before you pour it into your engine

BTW : to the lady driving M3, you need 9 litres. If you cannot figure out how many bottles to buy, pls look for jasonmaxima and he'll explain it to you over coffee

Thanks. I put a simple post. I didn't realize questions had to be substantiated with evidence that I had searched online so that some will deem fit to reply.

I was looking for a very simple answer from people with experience. Instead, a whole bunch of replies from people who don't even have the model or have seen the newer handbooks want to give their opinion

I appreciate the effort, but I wanted actual useful feedback from owners. Which is very limited in this growing thread, and this forum in general.

Ill make it a point to stick to the US forums in future.

Nowadays, this forum is filled with facepalm question which can be answered with a search button. All the technical discussion has disappear over time.

By sharing your findings, it would help on the discussion rather than juz a simple question. This is a community for sharing (2 ways traffic).

I am staying here to learn despite not driving F30.

wakao.......why so small air about engine oil. tot most ppl drive bmw very see open one (unless you're pricking kiam kan nah type)
just drive to any of the site sponsor workshop and say "lim peh (or 老娘 ) is bmw-sg member now wanna change orh yu" and thing will settle swee swee one. If you wanna bring own orh yu make a call to workshop and check how many litre or quart required then smlj tachji also settled where got issue?
come on lah my jipun chia change orh yu, gear box yu and differential yu around $1.2k me also accept it needless to say ppl drive sart sart teck kok bmw chia lah.
you guys want me like jasonmaximama and add another chinese unit conversion izzit?

Actually, i would like the factory to provide a list of items to be replaced at certain mileage rather than wait till it breakdown.

Have, but I forgot the term pml used for this.
Parts are changed at specific age by date or mileage to KEEP OUR BMW IN BEST OPERATION CONDITION
I'll search for the leaflet and scan it

According to an article link posted by kenntona, the operating fluids capacities of this version of 2012 BMW 320i are as follows:

Engine lubricant oil capacity:
5.8 liter / 6.1 U.S. qt / 5.1 imp. qt

5.8liters / 5.772liters (6.1 US qt x .946352946) / 5.79626475 liters (5.1 imperial quarts x 1.1365225)


your ' is what quart? US or UK quart?

It's US quart. DIY feedback ive seen has owners saying 5 US quarts. Kenntona's pic from google says 6.1 us quarts. Conversion of us quarts to litre isn't my concern here. Why do you keep mentioning conversion? Even with sszone, I know what he means even if he quoted est conversion of 900ml. He already gave me an answer that it's a little over 5 US quarts (like the MX trading bottles sold)

Point taken, but just cos I post a simple question, shouldn't immediately be construed as a face palm question. And I don't see how forumers here posting Google in response to my simple question is called for.

I would share my findings if I thought them reliable, but that's really why I came here asking for real life feedback from owners with experience with the engine. Not a bunch of rude, irrelevant replies assuming I didn't do a search online.

if you use sszone's conversion of 'about 900ml'.... 5 bottles is 4.5 liters....

sure... that 0.23liters or 230ml might not sound like a lot to you... but thats almost 1 can of soda (330ml) worth of engine oil that you did not fill....

will it hurt your engine? I'm not sure... not technical enough.

but the crux of your question seeks answers for the MOST optimum amount of engine oil to add so that you can derive optimum performance from the car and optimum engine protection right??

I'm not worried about the exact conversion between litres and us quarts cos I have us quart bottles of imported oil. I could convert that to liters if somebody gave me an answer in Litres. Right now I'm concerned over the variation in oil change quantities quoted online. So lets stop discussing conversion which isn't really relevant ?

Generally, anybody else who also buys these us import bottles would bring their own oil to the workshop. Some workshops say 7L for the six cylinders, some say 6.5L, some say 6.9 us quarts. So I don't really wanna go on workshop advice alone.

I'm not looking for numbers because of performance etc, just want to know how much roughly is poured in for a servicing. And not be short or overfilled.

So don't worry about conversions. I just wanna know to how many quarts to give the guy. If somebody gave me the answer in Litres I could convert it. But thankfully, a couple of guys here seem to have some answers from their experience.
