Re: Improvement of Fuel economy with equipment and driving technique.

Change rim and tyres to 17" along the way ...... Pump with nitrogen gas and around 38psi all around .....

Haha !

Re: Improvement of Fuel economy with equipment and driving technique.

Seriously, if ask me to spend time and $$ to squeeze 2 more km from 1 litre....
tink i m happy wif my 8k/l....

Re: Improvement of Fuel economy with equipment and driving technique.

On a serious note....

7..4km/L is worst than mine on sport mode spirited driving while 10.9km/l is better than my normal drive mode.

I am trying very hard to associate BMWs with Sheer Driving Pleasure nowadays, given the owners' profiles.

Should do a poll, see how few have ever red-lined their cars. Most will sayang their engine like it's a living thing.

How can it be an overkill when i read somewhere below this - "I believe to get the maximum efficiency out of any machine..."

Maximum efficiency but must be reasonable. But different people have different opinions on what is reasonable so.... I will not turn off my aircon, switch to 16",turn up the power windows on a 30degree hot day. Lol

Still can, redline every gear till u reach 80-90 then become good boy keeping to speed limit 8)

Re: Improvement of Fuel economy with equipment and driving technique.

im struggling to understand this part:

I found the the computer controlled gear shifts has changed a little. It now allows more revs up to the 4-4.5k range before shifting from 3rd to 4th gear. 1st and 2nd also has this change but less. Before that, gears would shift between 2k-2.5k. In short, I am getting more torque.

so ur gears only shift now at 4k instead of 2k. n that's more torque? rev more means burn more.

Dude... that's not how it works.

Seriously, don't be like one of those guys who say "Buy cabrio for what, Singapore where got chance to drive top-down..." then go through their entire lives completely missing out on the joys of open-top driving.

Come Malaysia can redlined all the way. Good to stretch your engine once in a while to loosen up.

Hey that's me!!! But weather very hot this CNY, redline until nearly overheat. Must change to ///M radiator and thermostat mods soon!

OK guys I know this has been discussed until the cow come home but I would like to share some info I have noticed.

I picked up my 2006 e90 1 Month ago and was suffering from ridiculous fuel economy.

Stock air filters-previous owner told me there is 30k km on it.

All my test is based on a daily commute. 60/40 highway/city driving.

My FC was 7.4 km/l. Pretty bad for a 2 litre e90. So I set out to improve FC.

Change to new stock air filter and FC improved to around 8km/l, not too bad but still not to my expectations. So I decided to change my driving style on the same route. I am driving like a grandma now, on slopes I will let go of accelerator and blah blah blah, well you get it, I am now driving like a grandmother.

All I get from this is an FC of 8.4km/l.

Still not happy, I installed air scoops and a K&N filter. In theory, it should help FC because more cold air flows means that your fuel burns more efficiently and you should see an improvement. Let me tell you what I experienced from a layman's point of view. Upon installation, I found the the computer controlled gear shifts has changed a little. It now allows more revs up to the 4-4.5k range before shifting from 3rd to 4th gear. 1st and 2nd also has this change but less. Before that, gears would shift between 2k-2.5k. In short, I am getting more torque.

So to put the theory to the test, I started driving like a grandmother again and this is the results I wanna post.

10.9km/l lol! So I can conclude that equipment plus driving like a grandmother can improve FC. Before anyone come and say I stingy, yes I am. Lol. I believe to get the maximum efficiency out of any machine as I am an engineer by training. Lol.

Any thoughts on this brothers and sisters?

On a more serious note to Alvin, even when I drive 60/40 redlining every traffic light to tia the E250AMG beside me, I get 10.5km/l. Maybe because my car is almost "brand new", sometimes I open up valve cover and think I'm in Poh Heng, hoist my car look at exos and I'm in Lee Hwa... Steam...

Sorry, what I meant is car is more willing to rev. Rev more is burn more I agree but somehow over all FC still improve for some reason.

My car 8 yrs old bo pian, go to do a lot to bring it to 10. BTW I redline my car, but only on the stretch old chua chu lang rd leading to bukit panjang. But as some brothers mention hit 90km/h i follow traffic rules liao. Kena too much fine in my younger days, now older and tamer.

@seanskye, your pm is full!

Re: Improvement of Fuel economy with equipment and driving technique.

if have 10kg weight to lose , can help improve FC also

Re: Improvement of Fuel economy with equipment and driving technique.

Thanks bro seanskye for the advise! will get my vacuum seals, valves and engine gaskets checked!

Few options as follows:
- An empty and tidy boot
- Lighter rims
- Refuse to carry any passenger
- Trim 10kg off from driver
- Always drive with half tank
