Improvement of Fuel economy with equipment and driving technique.

Re: Improvement of Fuel economy with equipment and driving technique.

Once a week park car at home and walk or take public transport. It will not help in fc but it will help you get used to the car breaking down which is a necessary riot of passage for owners of older BMW cars ;) Speaking from experience for a car reaching 5 years old.

Re: Improvement of Fuel economy with equipment and driving technique.

I forgot... reduce the frequency and length of run-lion runs in those dark carpark. Certain to save a lot, but no more sheer pleasure!

Re: Improvement of Fuel economy with equipment and driving technique.

What is life... without sheer pleasure?

Re: Improvement of Fuel economy with equipment and driving technique.

You should also try to change to iridium plugs.

Sorry, what I meant is car is more willing to rev. Rev more is burn more I agree but somehow over all FC still improve for some reason.

Re: Improvement of Fuel economy with equipment and driving technique.

Like me, change to a smaller car with N18. Anyhow rev also about 10km/L.

Who cares about FC when 1 is driving BMW.

Re: Improvement of Fuel economy with equipment and driving technique.

Hi ... I used to be eyeing my fuel consumption since i got my 10 month old Car ... always curious if my car FC is a lemon ... especially comparing to M3 and 328 etc ... My FC sucks ...

Then i start to drive like Grandmother ... change plugs at 20k ... change engine oil ... change air intake all done and FC still sucks and worse then before .... Then change from V power - 98/95 .... 95/98/V power ... all still the same... So drive as per my usual style ... and grandma style no longer applies...

So went and complain to MA and they readjust the Idling ... ooooo.... The FC comes back but the car no longer feels like a car ....

So mod here and there whilst driving took out stock brakes/ARB/FMIC/CP/suspension etc ... Still the same....

Had a chance to PML to readust back my idling to the norm ... and also updated my software ... It improves from 6ish to 7 to low 7 till now 7.5~8 .... (after i took out the stock boot for Vort CF trunk)

I am still driving with fear daily since i was napped at 43 above speed limit by highway patrol last year .... but still a conclusion ...

Mindfulness of your driving style/Idling time/weights/braking/Traffic police ...
Ensure Regular maintence of your car ie(engine oil/software updates/filters)
Enjoy driving and dun care too much on Fuel consumption unless your car is too lemon ...

Mine car on paper is said to be 9 ... I am achieve 7.5 left right ... i happy liao ....

Enjoy 2014!!! May the points come back to me soon ...

Re: Improvement of Fuel economy with equipment and driving technique.

So if there's only one thing u recommend to change to improve FC, it'll be air scoop and K&N filter?

Re: Improvement of Fuel economy with equipment and driving technique.

Nicely said ..... I think the software update helped quite a bit.

Actually main thing is your driving style. Air intake can improve performance but can also cause you to have a heavy foot syndrome.

Re: Improvement of Fuel economy with equipment and driving technique.

My conclusion derived from observing instaneous fuel consumption is that the greatest efficiencies are when you are able to sustain about 80-90 kph in top gear. So unless your city/highway mix changes dramatically don't expect to improve FC much even wi g'ma driving style. Fortunately for me I'm one of those who can tahan a/c at 24-25 one bar, I would also ditch the spare tyre if there was one.

Unless driving style means choosing small roads over expressways .....

Haha!

Re: Improvement of Fuel economy with equipment and driving technique.

Expressway in sg also always jam. So no guarantee.

Ah but then... pretty well documented crusing at top gear has better fuel efficiency (not redlining at top gear, lol). U raise 1 key factor... once jam, good FC out the window.

Also reason why the fact/spec sheet will show 2 different FC figures. Most BMW don't have spare tyre, if not is all.

Re: Improvement of Fuel economy with equipment and driving technique.

Main lesson for me after studying instantaeous fuel consumption was realization that even "stepping on egg shells" style of driving don't really achieve much. So just drive sensibly and enjoy SDP. So glad I started ditching the spare tyre in my jap rides long ago - prepared me psychologically for driving a bimmer :D

Re: Improvement of Fuel economy with equipment and driving technique.

Anyone driving the M435d GC? I want to know the FC before I place my order. Thanks in advance.

Not true. Not locally, I have driven at very high speeds n fc improved. Not say at 90 it improves fc
