2. Dont run on battery power or cigarette lighter. (I once had a system hooked up to my car battery, and it shorted the battery one day. Cigarette lighter very messy, I dont like wires running all over my centre console. A rechargable battery a la your handphone battery where you bring home to recharge is best)

.....

not sure if internal battery can last so long. Video capture sucks a lot of juice

i'm quite sure Pin LIxxx etc should be able to tap a power source and pull a wire neatly. that's what some guys did for the Garmin GPS

as for video quality, i'm impressed with the video capture posted on page 1 of this thread. license plate quite readable

Re: Installing Cameras

hmm thats true. but then again, the vast majority of us do not spend >2hrs of driving time, on the rd daily. anything that can last 2hrs of capture, like most video cams out there, should do the trick. but of coz someone must make a product like this to begin with la.

but then again, a regular handycam, properly mounted, should do the trick too?

and then what about Ascendant's POV? that should work well too right? Can Mr. Ascendant give us a product intro on how well the cams will work for our application? also about wiring, setup, batteries, night takes, etc?

i think they are overpriced though. can find it cheaper.

i really think this is good if you guys see the local distributor's video both day and night...but their price is :\

i found another site though selling the same thing, involves shipping from HK but still significantly cheaper.

Gadget.brando.com

this coming from someone whom has cameras and recorders in the car...the hassle and trouble with tapping of the power...switches to isolate it...still so much battery problems when travelling...car washers damaging the mount...wire...end up so frustrated the cameras are switched off almost all the time.

Re: Installing Cameras

i'm thinking, for more views, means we buy more of the same units?

anyone wants to DIY anything? I actually have 2 motion detector cameras, and 2 recording units (supports SD card). supply your own power and vid wires and you can have your own set in your car liao. It was dismantled from my car.

Re: Installing Cameras

i'm keen to be in group buy for the MARC video cam from gadget.brando.com @US$266 + S/H

installation is simple enough.
but not sure if the simple but ugly "C" shaped mount is included in package

Re: Installing Cameras

I emailed the people at Gadget.brando.com for a group buy and they offered ~10% discount for 5-10 pcs

price is about S$360 (depends on Final credit card forex rate)

Anyone keen in group buy?

Re: Installing Cameras

Bump...

looking for people interested to purchase the video cam from gadget.brando.com @ S$360

Re: Installing Cameras

i'm pretty interested. And I'm thinking, if this thing can run on batteries, then you wouldnt have this wire like in the picture. and perhaps we can just blu tack the box to the windscreen so no need to use the stand. I need to find out exactly how i'm going to be installing/using this thing before committing. comments? If one wants to cover front and rear, then we'll be buying 2 pieces liao. Also no need to find up to 10 buyers in that case.

"Built-in Battery: 1100mAh/3.7V (continuously record 3.5 hours)"

i guess if u dun need 24hrs recording, then u can bring home/office to charge after your daily drive.

advantage of this vid cam is the ability to 'loop' / wrap around the first recordings when recording is full.

MapleLeaf - rx your PM. will update

Re: Installing Cameras

i think this is a good enough thread to start...no worries.

Re: Installing Cameras

I just had an OEM Viper alarm installed in my E60. Connect direct to CAN-Bus. No need to run cables to all doors and boot/bonnet. Only device added is siren horn and ultra-sound sensor, hidden inside roof panel. Dual-zone ultra-sound sensor - interference outside car: beep beep; inside car, alarm screams.

Arm, disarm via BM original remote control key. Shiok shiok,

Much much less than the $4.5K PML quoted me.
