The rot in the system, in my humble, unlearned, laypersons opinion, started when the government decided to abolish a cost subsidy for the HDB, to a "market" subsidy for the same. It was a black day in Singapore's history, from which I fear there is no chance for salvation, nor hope of redemption.
Everything since then has been a race to see how more money can be made or squeezed from the people... Sad.

leasing of coz is widely practised in the west, a base F10 535i only cost USD$50K or less ...
ROI is very short after 1-2 years than pure profit liao
in spore a based F10 535i cost $300K+ ... if pml lease 10 units out already $3M+++ ...
the opportunity cost (or sunken cost?) is too high
in singapore we got BMW Financial Services ... the BMW ah long

Hire purchase = what we doing now right ? Owns the car and the liability for the rest of its lifespan.
Leasing = rent from owner for a fixed period of time but ultimate ownership still with leasor?

hire purchase = you actually buy but don't want or cant afford to pay 100% cash
hire purchase = after finish payment, you own the car forever ever (ie: msia) except in spore because coe 10 years nia (must renew coe, not sure is it ok not renew coe and park the car at home, still own it)
lease = you don't want to buy, you lease based on tenure. you dont own the car even you lease it for 10 years.
HUGE DIFFERENCE if in msia ... you hire purchase the car for 7 years (loan settled) you own/use the car for the next 25 years if it still running steady boon pi pi

i was also thinking why not lease
y1-y2 lease bmw
y3-y4 lease audi
y5-y6 lease merc
instead of buy > sell > change car
lease is defnitely more expensive than buy but it comes with freedom to change
like i said, the car in spore is fking expensive ... leasing will kill you because in order for the business to be sustainable, the company must charge very very high as the opportunity cost is too high ...
in usa is a whole different story ... i read e90 f30 f10 post forum, the american change car almost 1 year or less because they lease ... bei song ... just change when the lease is up and the cost is low
