N55 turbo lag - any bros experienced it?

To the high class, GCB-dwelling, members of Sentosa Cove with supreme tastes and drivers of N55B30 Twinpower turbo engined IL6 equipped cars (335i, 535i, 640i, 740i), may I know if any of you have ever experienced turbo lag with your cars when you really tried to floor it?

I thought I might have experienced like a second's delay from when my foot was fully plantar-flexed to the pedal, to when my butt and back was fully pushed into those side-cushion, lumbar bolstered comfort seats of mine... Interestingly, this didn't seem to be a big problem at first, but of late, what with my rather frequent sojourns to a certain quiet part of western Singapore to view a particular set of evenly spaced road lamps on an invitingly straight stretch of tarmac, I've noticed it more and more....

Could it be that I've got the ECU chip tuned on too modest a setting? Any bros here can comment please?

Many many gum xia in advance :)

Maybe it is not the car but the weight. Have you put on many kg recently?

Re: N55 turbo lag - any bros experienced it?

This is normal in Comfort or Normal mode. It is meant to be like this by default for comfort and safety. In addition it actually adapts to your driving style. Try whacking the pedal for a few times in a row and you will feel the throttle being more responsive. If you prefer more reponsiveness just drive in sports mode.

BTW on a side note, i realise this N55 engine is used in every single model in bmw's lineup. This is really an amazing fact. One size facts all!

1,3,5,6,7 series and all variants, x1,x3,x5,x6 as well as Z4!

Not true .... 2 - 3 weeks back my 335 E 92 N55 was laggy especially on the turbo shifts ... last serviced about 5k mileage back ... (last 15k, now only 20km mileage) ... ie ... you want to overtake when u are crusing say at gear 7, usually it will auto drop the gear to 4,5 and turbo kicks in very fast usually like in 1 sec after you step the gas more or even floor it ?

But last 2-3 weeks was having such problems ... I thought it maybe the ATF need to change or Gear box got problem ... but it was not ....

Last saturday after Jam hsiao Concert, just passed the car park gate, full step on gas .... Gear 2 was going to 5-6,000 rpm when there was a POP sound .... i tell myself "ho seh liao" after that the car cannot rev above 2-2,500 rpm ... if full step on gas ... there willing be a loud "OOOO" sound but no power to the wheels ...

As suspected it is the charge pipe that burst .... send in the car to Munich (monday morning) and was told parts will come on thursday and no replacement car ...

Singapore cars and taxi so expensive ... and no replacement car ... makes my life these 1 week very troublesome ...

Thanks for the tip - yes, you are right. In Sports or Sports+ mode, no noticeable lag. Only during Comfort or Comfort+ mode. Silly me. Thanks thanks bro!

I experienced lag too but I think it's not the car; I need to lose weight!

No M6 for me. Went to see it in the flesh about a month ago, but it really didn't move me as much as I thought it would. Made an offer to Munich, but I wasn't too sad when the offer was rejected. No biggie.

Am eyeing a different strategy - and actually, she who must be obeyed already gave me the OK in principle - but I'm not allowed to scratch the itch in my backside for at least 5 years. So, looks like I'll be stuck with the 6 & 7 for a few more years to come...

Re: N55 turbo lag - any bros experienced it?

I driving 535 , now 4k plus . When I just got the car even not in sports mode once step on it , it moves and respond fast but when I change engine oil at 2k I feel the engine not that responsive anymore. Now still the same..

Shit. Bro, you might be on to something there as well. I also never had any issues until I went to MA for the 2000km oil change. They changed it to BMW approved Castrol oil, and thereafter, I swear the butt feel has been different.

I'll monitor more & give you guys feedback...

Re: N55 turbo lag - any bros experienced it?

check what's the factory oil viscosity? what's the viscosity of the oil ma put/drip/cum in your engine?

Re: N55 turbo lag - any bros experienced it?

I dunno the original brand - it came (cum) with the delivery @ PML. But, MA put in the Castrol Thingee for me... I should try to dig up the receipt and check on the viscosity....

Re: N55 turbo lag - any bros experienced it?

I checked my user manual, it states I can use 5w30, which is what MA used for my car.

Re: N55 turbo lag - any bros experienced it?

Must be the same then - guess its probably not the oil change at 2000 clicks.

Re: N55 turbo lag - any bros experienced it?

5w30 is the thinnest u can get so i suppose it won't affect the performance but if yours is orliginal cum with 5w30 and MA put in 5w40 for you? then yes u can feel the car is less responsive.

Re: N55 turbo lag - any bros experienced it?

Why would MA swap my almond cream cum for birds nest cum during a routine oil change? Bro S2k, now you got me worried - gotta go dig for receipt from MA. But, knowing how I am, I'd most likely thrown the receipt away a long time ago

Re: N55 turbo lag - any bros experienced it?

thick condom more protection but less song for you right? same logic :lol2:

Re: N55 turbo lag - any bros experienced it?

Still got service record at MA to check ......
