Hi there bro! Welcome to the forums.

I was also faced with a similar decision 2 weeks ago but finally settled for the 320i. I managed to a bit of a discount (tiny discount) from the 128k. I'll PM you separately on this. I think the 323i is a good car but really, if you want to take a step up, it may be better to consider the 325. This is my first BMW and I didn't want something too fancy. However, performance-wise, the 320i is great if you're driving within the city area of SG. All the extra power IMHO would've been wasted.

That said, if you're into power and performance, I was told to get the 325. The performance difference between the 323 and 320 wasn't much. The 325 on the other hand had more to offer (of course, it's also more expensive). It also had the iDrive system, monitor etc which made it more enticing.

In short, between the 323 and 320, I think the 320 is sufficient. The $10k diff doesn't quite justify the additional power when you think about driving in the city area. I'd rather use that cash and go on a good holiday (which is what my wife suggested) or get better wheels (heh heh) etc :)

All the best in making your decision, dude :)

Hi can u kindly PM me hw much u pay for the 320i....i m interested.can give me your SE contacts.thks

Re: Need help deciding: 320I or 323I

EVERY noteable car has something special. Something which you CANNOT do without. Something special which, if you don't get the special thing, go buy another car.

The Cerfiro, it's the 6-cyl engine. The VIOS, it's the price. The Subaru, it's the turbo, even in WRX -only guise. The Cayman, it's the handling.

A 3-SERIES BMW IS NOT IN CHARACTER WITHOUT THE 6-IN LINE ENGINE.

To hell with the rims, the interior build, the other options, the wiper, etc. To hell with them. Go to the trash. i don't care.

BUT, to sacrifice the 6-cylinder, you might as well buy a Camry. Or a WRX. Get a car which is whole, not one with its balls torn out of it.

The 6-cylinder inline is the heart of the 3-series now. Yes, the 2002 had a 4 banger. But the BMW brand name now, has been forged in fire with the 6 banger in its heart. Go for the six. Sacrifice everything, but not the 6-cylinder.

I apologise to all who bought the 4 cylinder 3-series for this post. But I had to say my piece to all these people who can't decide. It may be wrong, but it's what I passionately feel about.

Re: Need help deciding: 320I or 323I

323 with no 2nd thoughts. The 320i is good car for those that do not care abt performance and just want the BMW as an epitome of success. If you want to feel good in a car everytime you peal-metal, and hear the harmonic tunes singing, go for the 323i. Its 177hp on taps and is sufficiently enought for singapore road. M uncles 523i was reasonably good to drive eexcept for the weight. With the 3er body, driving performance would be much better given a better power-weight. With a 4 cylinder engine on a 3er body, its like trying to tow Moses Lim on a 2-stroke motorcycle.

why must 1st time buyer who is not rich make a mistake? Why should he not buy another car which he can afford in proper spec? Like, instead of a 3-series, get the IS250 or WRX?

Re: Need help deciding: 320I or 323I

what is the best price for 320i n 323i nw? is 323 made in south africa n 2.5cc?i felt that in terms of performance n interior Audi A4 1.8T beats 323 hands down but handling wise...hmm....

Re: Need help deciding: 320I or 323I

if I am not wrong a bmw beats the audi in terms of resale value hands down... not saying this because I drive a bmw... but it was one of the many reasons why I bought a bmw instead of the audi...

bro totally agree wih u...one have to choose between resale value or performance.

Re: Need help deciding: 320I or 323I

not only resale value, audi will look dated in a few years time whereas bmw is timeless. this might be subjective as i based on E36, E46 etc. they still look solid. but when i look back at A4, even the prefacelifted one looks dated.

anyone feel the same?

Re: Need help deciding: 320I or 323I

A4 1.8T is 150hp only rite? How can a 150hp Audi beats a 177hp BMW in terms of performance? :nehnehhh:

Why do you need to mod? 177 hp is more than sufficient for use in Singapore. You can pull ahead of the traffic easily with the 323i. The driver and the driving count too.

Re: Need help deciding: 320I or 323I

The A4 1.8T is a fantastic car but it can't be modded to 245bhp. It can, however, be up powered to about 210bhp... The 2.0TFSI can be powered up to 245bhp but that's a different cattle of fish altogether...

you will get more gains with a turbo motor but then again you must ask yourself wat you want. if you want pure adrenaline, save ur money and just get an evo. But if you want both comfort and power, the 1.8T is a go. If you want handling perfection and decent power, the 323i is the way to go and NO, the 323i cannot hit 210bhp. Not a chance unless you S/C it, but the 323i's are all N52 engine, so you cant supercharge. So that leaves you pretty much with the Audi 1.8T. The choice is clear.
