Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

Quick fix:

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

Bro Detach,

Just to add a footnote. Pursuing the legal route will be time consuming, tedious and in the long run tiring for you.

Suggest you explore the "plastering" the ceiling method as a first choice. Talk to some contractors or if there are any contractor Bros here maybe they can advise.

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

Thanks bros. Looks like going legal doesn't help the situation. Maybe I should go illegal. I'm actually quite serious...

Anybody here in the ah-long biz? :p

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

psst.. may be this will work...
sub woofer with 12 inch drivers... you won't hear it.. place it at the right position and the "right" windows and loose thing will rattle.. like invisible hands...
of course all of sudden all neighbours left right up down.. start scramming for the stairs.. Earth quake!
but do it right.. only one will response. wink! wink!

i honestly think you are capable of resorting to some tricks but maybe just lack the courage to execute it.
just give in and come over to the dark side

muahahahaha!

but seriously unless you can get them to move out, you should just sell and move away. why the drama.
confronting them, or resorting to legal actions will only piss them off and what exactly were you hoping will happen - that they realise their folly and make peace with you and co-exist peacefully?

wake up your f. ideas my friend

or maybe go become their friends and maybe things might change? bring their kids to the playground, etc etc.....then in time to come they will be enjoying making noise outdoor rather than at home........................

cheers

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

Don't get angry. Get even. After you have plugged in your headphones... play a different loud music over the loudspeaker. Thenhappily go to bed.

Next day when police is at the door, apologise that it was loud but that your neighbour was louder so you cannot hear your music, hence go louder.

It's driving me nuts. I can't work in peace at home in the daytime, neither can I sleep in peace at night. Banging, knocking, ticking, pounding almost 24/7. I'm referring to my neighbours upstairs.

Called police, HDB, MP... doesn't seem to help.

Other than moving house (which I can't for at least 5 years) what can I do? Send a lawyers' letter?

bro, not meant to be supernatural, but you sure those are human noises?
suggest you drop by to visit and talk to the residents.

not meant to spook you but those things happened to my friend last time. nobody lives upstairs from him. was adviced to endure till "they" got tired and move away... errie. :yikess:

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

Dear detach8,

May I know you having the same noise problem any more after 1year ?

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

Hey guys, I used to have the same problems...really drove me crazy! I had moved house for a couple of times and found out that these were common problems...

Here's my story:

I began to buy my own private apartment in 1998. The upstair neighbours took turns to make noise like dragging furnitures at 2am...kids jumping and stomping around the house...heavy footsteps etc. I went up a couple of times to talk nicely to the owners...they ignored my requests everytime...so I decided to call the security guard (not effective)...and also eventually the police... but the noise continued...In the end, for the sake of my own well being (mentally), I sold the private apartment...

After this, I shifted into a condo in city area (thought that classy condo would had more reasonable neighbours)...I was wrong...I had the same problems again...so I went up to talk nicely with them....but they slammed the door at my face...I decided to put up the condo for rent....eventually also sold this condo...

I shifted again to a penthouse in the city area...thinking that topfloor would be ok...I was wrong again... my downstairs neighbours was so loud and I could hear their legs stomping and kids jumping about etc. I was so shocked that I could hear my downstair neigbours talking in their own unit....Decided to sell the house again...

Now I lived in rented condo and very good neighbours on the topfloor also...

My conclusion is this:

No matter which floor you live in, its the quality and moral values of your upstairs/downstairs neighbours that count...unless you can afford a full bungalow of more than 10,000 sqft, noisy neighbours can still affect you...its a common problem in SG...the housing (even private high-class condo) in SG have minimum sound-proofing...You have to do it yourself...get a contractor...

Another alternative is to rent a place and test out the living conditions before you buy...but if your good neighbours moved out and new incoming bad neighbours, you have to move again...
A dream home is so hard to find...

Hope all of us will be lucky enough to get dream homes with peaceful neighbours. :laughlik:

Re: Noisy neighbours - what can I do?

Wow nice first post. Thanks for your insights.

My issue is largely resolved after I got my MP, police, HDB, etc. to deal with them. This is after 3 years.

Believe me sometimes you need to deal with them by doing 10x back what they did to you... and this may be at the expense of the entire block.

I had to hammer my ceiling with a small 1kg dumb bell to the extent the guy upstairs got really fucken pissed and came down (oh finally! no more me going up). I took a video of his bullcrap arguments and sent it off to the MP and police. I guess he got a really really stern warning.

I have a new downstairs neighbour and they play the piano... very well. I kinda appreciate that though.

Seems like an eye for an eye is the only effective way to deal with certain people.
I used to have such a neighbour and after all the talk, coaxing, in the end the only
way is the give them the same treatment till they approach me to "puay" it out.
some people are just so KNN . BTW, you lun for 3 yrs? u steady bro...
