Official 2011 BMWSG Sepang Track Day thread

Re: Official 2011 BMWSG Sepang Track Day thread

well said Shaun..... not sure about the straits times method though. The unlucky stick might strike the same person 2 track days in a row!... ouch

Agree that tough decisions have to be made as this is already a quasi-public event and it is only going to get bigger. Kudos to Shawn and team for organising an event that has such demand.

Once a few clear cut rules are in place the decisions are then made by those rules and no one would feel the need to complain. It is a necessary evil when any group/business/event grows beyond a few friends.

It is usually at this point in the growth of any entity that the original group either breaks away to re-start again in an attempt to re-claim the original format or move forward and embrace the success and natural growth.

I applaud you, Shawn for including everyone in your decision making but I think ultimately we will be looking to you for your strong, smiling:) leadership to maintain the great track days that you organise.

I feel that you are well within your right to sit down with your forum advisers/friends and come up with what you think is fair and suits what you are trying to achieve for your track days.

If ppl don't like it then they can organise thier own.

"You can please some people some of the time but you can't please all people all of the time" someone wise;)

Easy to solve that one mate.. if you've gotten knocked off the list due to ST method, your track fee that you already paid, is rolled forward to the next trackday, and you have immunity from getting removed from that trackday the ST way. The rotation keeps on going, it is random, and no one gets two-in-a-row hit. :)

Still, if you are going with a group of friends/cars that you want to track with it would be a real poo if one of them got randomly kicked off.

That car would get kicked to the next track day with immunity but then there is a chance that one of the other mates got kicked off randomly the next time. Alas the friends never saw each other again:wavey:

It's a worst case scenario of course but could happen and would take away from the friendliness.

I feel that with any booking system eg flights/hotels/restaurants even night clubs/parties it is always first in first served.

I do think that it should be first on the forum list not first to pay though. This would prevent electronic mayhem of 50 cars all paying at 12:01 on the day.

If ppl are active in the forum they will log in on the day and post their intent. Then have 3 days to confirm by paying or the slot is given over to the 1st on the waiting list.

However, some booking systems do reserve a number of places for certain VIP groups. The groups could be:

-BMW's (agree with Shaun on this)
-Founding track day dudes/organisers
-Sponsors
-First timers

At a specified date closer to the event day if those reserved slots are not taken then again they are allocated to those on the waiting list.

I'm a fan of keeping it small. 45 cars. This is one of the things that makes the day so popular.

More days? definitely.

A morning and afternoon slot? Great idea

Good idea, just hope there is no crashing of the forum due to 100 trying to post on the same thread at the same time. If the posts are too quick succession, there could still be chaos as usually the previous poster is quoted when adding self to the list, and with multiple posts going on within a minute or two, multiple people claiming similar spots on the list. I guess there's always the option of reordering the list at the end based on post chronology (board timestamp).

Think that sponsor allocation should be the smallest of listed groups, and that first timer ratio shouldn't exceed a certain level (higher quality assimilation process). What that ratio is up to organizers to decide on or a vote.

Agree on all 3 points

Cheers

I like this idea.

I would go one step further and suggest that everyone needs to add their name to the list by themselves i.e. cannot post for friends. This ensures that priority is given to bmwsg forumers.

We can open up the list to friends after 1 week if there is not sufficient demand.

Re: Official 2011 BMWSG Sepang Track Day thread

any effort involving many different people and groups has complexities

got any ideas?

its like this.. hahaha.. now many car owners love tracking.. so allocated slots not enuf.. + old regulars.. jialat.. 50 slots also full.. siao..

I think sooner or later, BMW SG must do like TCC, got EXCO one.. then maybe workable.. if all done by just RB.. sibeh siong.. :helpp!:

Wot happen to first pay first serve basis & as for rules and regulations just get it inked black and white, clear and precise. Can't have every rule and regulation that satisfies every single soul.

Follow the thread.. there currently are 'jams' due to high demand and limited spaces. Tens of people paying at nearly the same time, trouble tracking time of payment, honestly interested newbies and BMW drivers potentially getting squeezed out of a place, etc.

If you do not want to read and learn of the problems, or attend trackdays or talk to trackers to find out concerns, then it's hard for you to consider or want to consider options or improvements.

Every rule to satisfy every soul has never been practical or a target, it has been stated many times on this thread and understood and echoed by many including myself.

On one hand there is Shawn himself, and as organizer - saying he is interested in brainstorming, bouncing ideas around, posting some of his own good ideas...

On the other, a bunch of merrymen, some of whom have never tracked with the club or even never tracked before, jumping in and asking those suggesting ideas to keep quiet and just go elsewhere. Why not let those who are open to discussion, do it, and if there's anything that comes of it, great, if not, also fine. Why not discuss or put in a constructive vote on issues like Shawn, Kuvesh, Dazza, Arthur, Adam, Jack, etc. ?

Re: Official 2011 BMWSG Sepang Track Day thread

Ok i read some of the posts in this thread and i got cock-eyed after reading too much.

Actually why not create a thread for each specific track day for the rest of the year. Have the interested parties put their names down. So if you can't make it for the first one, join the 2nd, if 2nd is full go for the 3rd.

Of course hogging is to be monitored by either RB or whoever will be helping him out. Hogging meaning putting their names down for all track days but "coincidentally" miss out on the first, then the 2nd and then you see a trend. Perhaps removing that individual from the 3rd TD.

This way instead of fighting for that limited 40-50 slots on the 1st TD, you will have opened up say 250 slots for the whole year. Granted some only want to experience the track only once and may not go for the subsequent.

Sense? No? Yes?
