PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

Oh no... my car's on BSI package... and i just had only 1 oil change since the last 2 yrs... low miliage... top up twice midway (my own wallet).... N52 losing engine oil... reading this thread... how should i get PML to change it at closer interval if any chance at all?

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

engine oil become sludge seems quite a common problem in E90. I had it for mine, car vibrated like a massage chair! I had two other friends with the same problem, one 320i another 325. All around the same time.

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

Hi.

I read this trail of discussion with great interest. My E90 is now at about 6K mileage, since the car is still using run-in engine oil, should I get it changed already or wait until 10K ? BTW. What brand of oil and type is recommended for the E90.

Thanks
WILLIAM

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

I think 10K engine oil change is ok. Some of us are on the PML Service Inclusive package which goes by the on board computer, typically change engine oil at 25K interval. I'd strongly suggest everyone to consider changing oil more often then what the computer says.

I change my engine oil every 10K Km, regardless of what the OBC says. :)

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

that's really good advice. Unfortunately I had to learn the hard way. Depending on which service personnel attending to you, this sludge problem can range from 2 days to 2 weeks. :yikess:

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

I change mine every 10k and my mechanic says that the oil is already very black and think... not advisable to wait until 25k.

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

hi all,

I did my first run-in oil change at 3000km and I could see that the oil was black and getting thicker. The mechanic said that usually running-in oil that come with new BMW is either mineral or semi-synthetic.

I suggest those who get new car, get the oil change at 2000k-3000km and NOT wait till 10000km or worse 24000km. Peace of mind to run-in your engine with fully-synthetic oil rather than UNKNOWN grade oil. I use Mobil 1 Gold 0W40 all these while.

Hope this help.

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

anyone knows what engine oil does PML use when servicing?

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

Hi all,

Is synthetic oil grade 5W-40 good for E90? Or what is the recommendation.

Many thanks..

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

Good to see you here Bro.,

There are also many AP and Panerai collectors here.

Cheers

Noel

bro desertfox65 posted pml uses 0-w30 so w40 will be a tad thicker than necessary. engine will be more rough and fc will drop a wee bit. why not stick to w30? price outside is like 13.50-15.00 /l depending on brands. only stuffs like motul or ows are really ex.

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

W40 will provide more protection and if you have a heavy right foot, w40 will be better imho. i have tried motul on other makes of cars and its been a great oil to use though they are expensive. i paid 55 for 2 litres so you can roughly figure how much it will costs you. normally run in most people will change at 1k interval. read from other forums that mineral oils used to help seal in the pistons and things like that. not sure how correct or true though. a cheaper oil alternative is elf. used it on track and found it very very smooth. some workshops sell it for 19 a litre

Hi fellow bro & sis,

Not sure if anyone had experienced this before.

I sent my car to Kg Arang this morning for 2nd oil service (mileage 49k) and also asked them to check inaccurate oil level sensor (I felt) and hard brake pedal in the morning. The CSA just called me and said they found sludge began to form in the engine oil that was causing the oil level sensor to be inaccurate! They drained out 6 litre of oil instead of 4.2 litre needed:whythis: It will take them 2 days to flush and clean the oil sump, rocker box and other components, etc. and no replacement car is available:furious: I asked for explaination for the sludge forming and he said it may be due to the frequent short distance driving pattern I have (not reaching optimum engine temperature):screwedu: :wtf:

Thought of sharing this lousy encounter with fellow forumers...

Car Bibles : The Engine Oil Bible
Motor oil - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Take a look at this oil filter! - bimmerfest - BMW Forums

Check out the above 3 links. That should provide you with a lot of references to consider your driving habit, maintenance regime, engine oil specification for change.

Cheers! :)

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

I got my E90 from PPSL 2 months ago and sad to say I seems to face the same problem.....

On one of the occasion, the engine was vibrating like Massage chair (as i bro called it) and through the emergency channel, I activated the technician and after some check here and there, replaced 2 of the 4 ignition coils. The engine was less vibrating since. He advise me to send my car to PML for more thorough check the next day....

I sent my car to PML (BT) last week and was told that such big job can only be done at either PML (A) or PML (EC). No choice, I waited for the schedule and finally send in this morning to PML(A).....The CSM told me likely take 2 days to service and I wasn't very happy about that. Then I got a call this evening from him telling me that I need to place the car there for 1 weeks, basically the same story that they need to flush the engine, drain oil sump, etc......  :offtopic:

I think this is too much. I felt as though my car was under-going a major major overhaul :furious: I'm a high mileage user and I really feel at loss without a car for a day. I wonder if this is the way PML service her customers? It's a shame if my colleagues or friends heard of this. this must be the joke of the industry!!!!

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

Hi TalkingNemo

I do hope that your problem will be resolved in the fastest manner so that you can forget the entire episode! yes I agree the schedule given is a joke....i know how u feel....that is why I also could not wait to get out of the warranty period .....PML sucks BIG TIME in the service area....PML is just lucky to have such good cars...otherwise, I am sure NOBODY will buy from them.....

I think BMW Asia is coming and setting up an office next to PML.....it looked good while I was driving pass just now....hope more GOOD NEWS will come to those who drive the ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE.....:cloud9:

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

Had the same problem and they kept my car for 10days...fortunately I fought hard and provided a rental car by PML..

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

Was wondering can i change the oil below 1000Km or it has to be 2000km ? Should I ask them to flushed the engine too ?

Moble 1 Gold 0W40 is pretty good, so i will be using that engine oil too :)
