I am using Amsoil 10W-40, cost $15 per quartz. BMW LL-04 certified. No issues at all. Engine is smooth and quiet.

Thanks! Was it done at J4C or BVO?

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

It finally happened to me. Sent my car in today for oil chg & other problems. Received a call fm CSA say need 7-10days to flush my engine due to sludge but no replacement vehicle available. Wonder is it mine is just a 320i. If i drive 7series dunno will I get better treatment:rolleyes:
Anyway still not kum guan that I dun hv replacement. Tmr going call to make noise!! My last servicing was 25000km ago. So is it their fault to set the OCI so far apart?

Any advice fm bros here?

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

If you do not insist of having a BMW for replacement, you can ask them to rent a car of same engine capacity......I got a CAMARY and later changed to a Peugot. Also, have them reset the OCI to 10000km...

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

It is a real pity. Anyway, best always to change oil every 6 months AND/OR every 10,0000 whichever comes first... in our weather condition.

Also remember to change ATF oil perhaps every 20,000Km don't let this little important devil get sludge also.....

There is no such thing as drive until 250000km

Unless they're disassembling your entire engine.
taking apart the bits of sludge with a toothpick.
No reason why it should take 7-10 days.

y'know what. :)
i'm going to hazard a guess. which might be wrong,

they might keep your car parked there for 9 days.
then start work on the 10th day.

Few hours before you pickup.
throw in $7.50 STP Engine Flush.
Run your engine for 15 minutes.
Maybe do this twice.

Drain & refill oil.
Change oil filter.

Then charge you 10 days labour. haha...

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

Hi Guys, I was told that my first servicing is at 12K, and to wait for the OBC to prompt you to go for servicing. I have a few questions and I do hope someone can help me.
1. Should I change my oil earlier before the OBC tells me to and if I do, will PML do it for me i.e before the service light:roll: ?
2. If after changing the oil lets say at 5000km, will the OBC then tell me to change at the 12000km as well. In other word the service light lights up?
I really do not want to experience my engine oil becoming a sludge.
Thanks bros

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

yes you can change the engine oil before the service interval, and it is adviced, especially of you are driving a brand new car. change it out at about 5-6k.

PML will not change it for you. they will ask you to go back when you reach 12k.

change you oil at an independent workshop, and tell them not to reset the OBC. it will not be reflected if you do not reset it.

when you reach 12k, go to PML and change the oil again, this time ask them to reset the OBC.

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

The Oil Change Interval meter uses fuel usuage as a gauge of how much longer you can drive on the oil. You need to reset the meter when you change oil to get it back to 12000km or whatever your car's computer has registered as a reset figure.

Cheers

Re sludge.

I believe your 320i is a post-2004 E90 model, with the N46B20 Valvetronic engine.

The E36's M43B18 (till 1995), the E46's M43B19 (till 2001) and the E46's N42B20 (till 2003) engines did not have any oil sludge formation problems.

This is a known BMW problem worldwide and PML mechanics are well aware of the N46 Valvetronic engine's sludge issue.

Yup. Mine is 2006 E90. Luckily still under warranty.

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

Then for FL320i E90's = will suffer sludge or not?

I just change mine at 5k at PML they wouldn't stop you since you are the one paying.;)

FL, as the name implies, does not change the engine.
FL320i still uses the N46 Valvetronic engine. No diff.

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

hehe, seems like they have changed their policy.

when my car was still under warranty some time ago, they refused to do it for me.

when i was walking away, i heard someone mutter, "waste time and space." - hence my animosity towards the stealership...

Re: PML told me the engine oil began to become sludge!!!

Wah piang! From initial 7-10 days now dragged to 12 days. KPKB with them still dun gimme replacement car.
