Am thinking to purchase a used E90;

how do I know whether the car is under PML SIP scheme?

how do i know the car is serviced at 25000km, can check from the OBC?

Not sure about the OBC... but you can ask whether the owner keeps full service records (i.e. invoices from various WS for the work done on the car)..... I keep them for my rides....

You can always go back to PML in between their recommended OCI and ask for an oil change.... you just have to pay PML prices.

OCI is? i do not want to pay the PML price for a lousy service. been there quite a lot of times, quite disappointing.

E60 engines oil is Castrol Edge 0W-40 or Mobil 1 0w-30 the first one is BMW ll04 spec but ihave used Mobil as well. You can do this at any workshop it takes only 30minutes or so. requirement 6.5litres. with filter change.

just to clarify, the castrol EDGE 0W-40 oil sold in Singapore (autobacs) appears to be BMW LL-01 certified. NOT LL-04. From what I know, LL-04 is only used in parts of europe that have the appropriate fuel grade (low emmisions)

and Mobil1 0w-30 isn't BMW longlife oil approved right? that said, i've read that mobil1 oil tends to not stay within grade over time, which might be why Mobil1 0w-40 is LL-01 spec'd vs "thinner" castrol 0w-30 LL-01.

that said, i guess you can use whatever oil you feel is suitable (ur choice la) but to maintain warranty and if you wanna play safe (or don't really get into al this technical stuff), just go for a BMW LL-01 spec oil.

Well, u could go to MY & buy Castrol Edge Sports 0W-40. That is d only LL-04 i know.

For Mobil 1 0W-40, only parallel import from USA is LL-01.

didn't know that, thanks for sharing. But since SG castrol seems to only officially import the LL01 version, i personally wouldn't risk using the LL04 stuff. Dunno if the singapore fuel grade is suitable for LL04 use.

After a self research of oils over the last couple of months, including reading lots of $hit on the net, talking to workshops, car owners, and trying several diff oils on my cars, bla bla bla....including this BMW LL thing......I personal feel it is not a huge huha if an oil is not BMW LL approved. For that matter all those boutuque oils, and established brands.

Now I am even thinking of using SPC engine oil and OCI of every 5k and see how. I met one 5series hiadee n his car has been using SPC oil for last 5 years. Everything is ok. Lucky got kaki like him ah. This LL $hit to me is more for long extended OCI, which I dont follow anyway. My oil are changed between 5k to 8k km so LL for what?

If an oil meets the requirements of VW, AUDI and MERC, how bad can it be if used on BMW. Ok I ranted enuf. Time to beng over a beer.

Hi ABD, yes.. agree with you... if your OCI is 5,000km, even semi syn (i.e. group III) also no problem. So long as you DON'T (missed out this word earlier) kanna carrot paying full syn prices for a semi syn oil can liao.

Extended drain (20,000km+) to me is really asking for trouble. Thats probably the reason why PML changed their recommended OCI.

i think most oil mentioned here is fine if you changed ur oil at plus minus 10,000km.

I changed mine at abt 10-15k....on OWS.

My E90 is approaching 11,000 km since last oil change - probably time to change oil. Unwilling to pay PML price for an inbetween oil change. Where would you recommend and which oil? Thanks in advance!

I am using Amsoil 10W-40, cost $15 per quartz. BMW LL-04 certified. No issues at all. Engine is smooth and quiet.
