Just realised there is a leak in my radiator,
Changed the top radiator hose and radiator as a safety measure as I always travel long distance.

As you can see in the pics, there are brown dried up coolent which is no easy to notice. This shows that there is a small crack in the radiator, the only way is to replace it.

It's recommanded to change the radiator with the top radiator hose as a preventive measure just incase the hose burst under heat and pressure.

Re: Radiator change - E90

hi bro Aaron_BMW,

Another common e90 problem. After oil, then comes water problems.

Where did you get this changed?

I got mine done at BVO after CNY earlier this year, while i was nearby at Sin Ming as i had some steam coming up from my engine hood whilst stopping at a stop light. Detect a minuscule leak at bottom of radiator fin so change this part and also the heater part.

Re: Radiator change - E90

Ok it says on the invoice "aircon heater valve", it's a round silver cylinder thing that sits beside the engine block.

This unit provides heat to the aircon if you set the temp high and another common item that will spring a water leak sooner or later.

My radiator part cost alone was S$390, how much did you get from the stockist at Kaki Bukit?

Thanks for sharing.
I bought mine for $280 only

Re: Radiator change - E90

Yeah, I guess as much.

The difference of $110 is the local (built-in) labour charge.

Parts for the E90 actually not too bad, it's the local labour charge that drives some of us north.

Re: Radiator change - E90

Hi bros, how much should changing the radiator and relevant hoses cost? PML quoted me $2,900. I've no idea if this is reasonable or exorbitant.

Read the thread again and it should confirm your feel on the $2,900 price tag.

You just call up BVO or R2D for a quote?

Re: Radiator change - E90

How old is your ride? If out of warranty already why don't you go outside WS?

Re: Radiator change - E90

How much would a reputable BMW specialist workshop (say the site sponsors) charge for the same? 10%, 20% or 50% lower?

Let's just say everything adds up. Some changes are not even necessarily. No one will know, since no workshop has quoted you. But yes, not sure about you, I am pretty sure you paid the MAX.

That pretty sums it all up

Re: Radiator change - E90

I know I've certainly paid the max. But given apple-to-apple comparison, from your experiences, how much (%) is the difference for parts and for labour?

If you are looking for numbers, I wouldn't have it, since your ride was not even diagnosed at any workshop.

Absolute difference would have been at least a few hundreds.

Point is - lesson learnt, move on. Check around first before heading to Mount Carrot.
