Riot at little india

Something is very wrong with the tactical planning - why park ambulance and squad cars there ? Where's the intel and the armed units ? Commanders underestimating the situation again ?

These guys can't even protect themselves.

At least they were there ..... Better than nothing.

As a tactical expert, what would you suggest? I believe your great solution should be shared. I'm all on ears...

When the POs on the ground report back, was the case dismissed and asked to lodge a civil suit?

oh u think that's funny? I hope one day you get caught in the middle of a riot where a group of people are trying to overturn ur car and set it on fire...then you open windows and ask "hey where's a good lawyer for me to find and sue you people?"

Re: Riot at little india

Sometimes I am perplexed by comments like "we don't need them (FWs) here, send them back."

Who's gonna build your HDBs? Clear your garbages? Clean your streets? Build your roads?

For the last 40 years or so, we have been pretending not to see these but it was the FWs (Thais, Indians, Banglas) who built everything here.

Was it because there was a conspiracy to replace our local labour force here? No. I think we know the answer. We simply do not want to engage in these jobs. Somebody gotta do it, but when things happen. we simply bang table and curse and swear as if such policy was wrong all these years.

It is tragic that the internet and social media brought out the imbeciles of complaints-without-solutions. Were anyone complaining about these FW issues 30 years ago while you were enjoying the fruits?

Editor's Note:
We are unable to verify the authencity of these sources, however, similar recounts of the incident were heard from many witnesses on the ground.

So you’ve heard it from many sources, both on social media and over the news.
But I’ve just received first hand news from witnesses at the scene.
The riot was sparked off because a bus ran over an Indian (suspected foreigner/Bangladesh), resulting in his head being CUT OFF.
The accident happened within the area where many Indians were drinking and they rushed up to see what happened…
The ambulance arrived late, hence the police officers were the first to be present.
Apparently, it was understood that the police officers could be those that patrol little india on a regular basis- and they are known to be rather “nasty” and cocky towards the Indian foreign workers there (- info gathered from the Mustafa folks)
From the witness itself: “The bus accident was the reason BUT not the TRIGGER of this entire riot.”
The police officers who were first sent to control the situation might have behaved aggressively towards the mob, hence causing the drunk mob to retaliate (along with their suppressed anger towards the local police)
Their anger escalated when they saw their fellow countryman with his head decapitated- lying there, helpless, with no ambulance in sight.
And yet, the police officers were still pushing them around.
That’s only when they incited the mob and burnt the police cars.
By far, the media has not spoken about the reason behind this!
At least, now we have the story from our fellow Indians.
There’s always two sides to a story.
The government needs to give us the truth.

I don't even think this is an objective side to the story. Talk about both sides of stories, we don't need further untruths (if it is) to fan the fire further.

As Singaporeans, we should stand together during times like that and not sow further discord.

Do you know why "hearsay" is not admissible in court? That's because a man's innocence might be jeopadised.

I love this part...if its not incitement of anti-govt feelings, I dunno wat is...

and all too soon, we forget the emergency officers who were injured there..,. perhaps we might even sympathise with the rioters, making it an "ORH BEE GOOD" thing to govt.

Re: Riot at little india

I don't understand why the police force, the ambulances and civil defence are associated with the PAP (in many forums) ......

Some mocked the police force as if they are working with a political slant.

Weird logic.

Re: Riot at little india

Sure it isnt an objective side of the story. But PO's in general towards Foreign workers ARE RUDE. I have seen it first hand myself during reservist. But its quite sad to see that the society remains disconnected on the sentiments on what ground men like Police and SCDF are doing.

It's skewered thinking. Cause they are government agencies.
Logically any party ruling whether PAP or not controls the country.

Hey, I thought some will argue that POs are rude to Singaporeans and nice to foreigners?

So they are actually consistently rude to ALL now?

Swee.

At least they are fair.

And hence the next time they are rude to me, I will burn cars and create a riot.

Justifiable.

I have also seen so many examples of our POs being absolutely polite and nice to people (locals, FW or FTs). In the first place, if you're in their shoes having to put down drunk people, how would you react? What would you do? What would you have done in that situation? But I agree it is very sad that the society is disconnected and people are just too busy on the internet posing as superheroes and the real heros like police and SCDF are patrolling the ground so that you and your children can sleep safely and soundly at night.

Honestly, which of you here were asleep and then awaken and felt like your life is in danger? Give credit when credit is due please...

Let's start the Kenneth movement.

Skewered thinking from whose perspective? Critics or the POs?

So you are saying the police, the ambulances and the civil defence acted with a political stance?

"If you have voted for PAP, our customer officers will be with you shortly. For opposition voters, all our operators are all busy. Please try again."

Please lah ..... They are the suppose to be the experts. If they cannot handle right then who can ?

When a riot happens - it is not about governing parties. It is not about opposition parties - it is about competence.

The fellows sitting in the squad car must be radioing back to the commanders - how ? Looking at the video - what do you think their orders were ?

Re: Riot at little india

Win - Win situation, put ERPs Gantries at Lil India and Operated 24 hours to reduce vehicles using the road for the safety of the jaywalkers. PAP Boleh.

Critics of course.
Of course not. Those are basic duties which should never be linked with politcal issues. However, seems like critics will link whatever societal problems on PAP these days...

Let's talk about competence. They kept everything down without firing a single bullet and didn't endanger more lives in the process. So now they are the expert and I wonder about your comments on their tactics then. So their tactics is wrong? Who's the expert here?

Have you been to Little India on weekend night? Have you seen the traffic? How do you think the police get in? Take MRT ah?
