Never had tuition or other enrichment classes , didn't want to burden my parents :(

But on the other hand, Im currently a voluntary tutor for a free tuition programme for primary school children at a service centre ,

Some of them still have other tuition program and enrichment classes such as piano,

somehow, I guess if I ever have children in future, I would just let them enjoy their childhood as much and not burden them with extra classes (school timing are already looooong )

...wah...:D..

..but Y free tuition..;)? these kids shld be able 2 afford rite..?...since u mentioned they hve piano etc lessons too....?

Re: Schools in Singapore

Going to tuition/enrichment centers is a double edge sword. If what they teach in those enrichment centers are aligned with MOE sylablles then good. Most of the time those centers would teach topics earlier then what the school is doing. Hence you child may find it is a breeze doing school work. Basically you set your child thinking about a topic earlier so that he/she has more time to understand their work.

If they teach more than the school sylallbles then you have to monitor your child whether he/she can take it. Don't forget your child has plenty of homework from school too. "Over-teaching" can do more harm than good.

Besides sending the child to enrichment centers and expect the teachers there to do wonders, parents must do their part too. One effective method to ensure your child understand that topic is to sit down with the child and go through his/her homework. Many parents simply leave the teaching job to school and enrichment centers. Don't forget that you are the biggest role model of your children! Since young, they will run to you crying when they get into trouble.

Sit down with your child and go through his/her homework. Get your child to explain to you certain topics that he/she is weak in. Play dumb and listen to them. Set a target to go through a certain topic a day. Don't cramp everything at the last minute. Once in a while, create small talk with your child. Relate your life experience while you are a kid to your child. Do this consistently and you will find your child more motivated and also cultivate the habit of doing his/her work on time. Their confidence level would also go up. The parent and child bonding would also be stronger.

Extra lessons like piano lesson, swimming, tennis lesson, golf lesson & etc may not be that bad afterall. Just make sure that is what they like and does not leave them no time for themselves. They could use those lessons to unwind their mind from those usual school work. Be it music lessons and sports lessons, a child could benefit more than what they are learning.

Besides senidng them to shcool and enrichment centers, when was the last time you sit down with your kid and have a heart to heart talk? Set aside some time to talk to your kid. Be it talking cock or serious matters, they will appreciate your effort.

Whatever said above is just for reference only. Every child is unique. Different strokes for different folks. Give them the support and love. Don't forget to tell your child that he/she is a champ!

And you do not DO NOT call the police if your son don't want to listen to you, go to school, lock his door, refuses to do his homework, don't want to do chores

True story

Then again, Singapore is like that , everything all Paper ,

But hard to say if it is better to be street smart or book smart, (and want to get good job? Everything all is lobang one, paper is secondary)
