Slight tuck fwd whenever I slow down to stop on a traffic liffic light

Re: Slight tuck fwd whenever I slow down to stop on a traffic liffic light

could u elaborate more? what does the tuck feel like? jerk from downshifting of gears?

Re: Slight tuck fwd whenever I slow down to stop on a traffic liffic light

i get this quite often nowadays when i park... stopping wise still ok though.

Re: Slight tuck fwd whenever I slow down to stop on a traffic liffic light

Same here, i got this on my e60 523 pre FL too.
For mine, after close notice, it's the downgear from Gear 2 to Gear 1.
Its a realli huge tug forward just right before you stop or after you stop it tugs forward.
No idea how to solve this also, any one can share any experience in solving this?
Its been bugging me for a really long time.

Re: Slight tuck fwd whenever I slow down to stop on a traffic liffic light

bring back to PML or workshop and ask them reset transmission. prove to the tester during test drive.

Re: Slight tuck fwd whenever I slow down to stop on a traffic liffic light

Hi Renyu, my e60 523 has the same problem. Trouble is it is intermittent. Sometimes I can drive to 20-30 mins without it occuring. Changing the ATF did not help. One workshop recommended replacing the entire gearbox, which is an expensive affair if you get a recon box from Germany.

Just got a second opinion yesterday from another workshop that specialises in transmission that the problem lies with the valve control unit (not sure if I got the term right) which is part of the gearbox. Am considering getting that replaced next week...will keep you posted.

Re: Slight tuck fwd whenever I slow down to stop on a traffic liffic light

dont change the gearbox......

try going back to PML ..yes im serious...i have a friend who works in PML that tells me sometimes its not mechanical failure... that problem can be caused by control unit or programming...

i have a friend who drives E60 and E90 experienced the same problem...especially the 520 and 320..... most can resolve it by programming or changing control unit..not the whole gearbox

Re: Slight tuck fwd whenever I slow down to stop on a traffic liffic light

like terry said, go for the route of reprogramming. changing gear box will cost a bomb!

Re: Slight tuck fwd whenever I slow down to stop on a traffic liffic light

Have done the software reset/upgrade path as well....doesn't help. Hence will be going for the control unit replacement. Question I have now is whether to overhaul the transmission at the same time..... :(

Re: Slight tuck fwd whenever I slow down to stop on a traffic liffic light

I have a colleague who had the control unit replaced under warranty to fix this problem.

Re: Slight tuck fwd whenever I slow down to stop on a traffic liffic light

does anyone know the costs involved for replacing the control unit?
mine's already not under warranty.
i was told that reflashing the gearbox programme would costs around 300 bucks and prob 1-2 days job.

Same here too. Its intermittent too. But mine is really frequent, once it starts, it continues for each stop.

Hope to hear your solution being solved and share it with us.

It seems like alot of pple are facing this issue.

Re: Slight tuck fwd whenever I slow down to stop on a traffic liffic light

Hi wkkok, Great at least there is solution... I don't mind to try also ... not sure which workshop & the cost....can advise ?

Also if u go on DS mode you should not get prob... that is what I experience when I switch to DS.

Heard that it would cost more than 6K from PML

Re: Slight tuck fwd whenever I slow down to stop on a traffic liffic light

I just bought a pre-owned 2006 320i.

Had this same problem, it's very uncomfortable. Realised that do not have this prob when the car just started i.e. still cool. After that, prob comes in. Sometimes the jerk is quite harsh, having getting used to it, can minimise with a bit of foot work.

True enuff, it can be minimised if you can control with your foot work.
However, i feel tat it kinda compromises the driving style.
for e.g. harsh driving would cause a harsher jerk when you stop.

:screwedu:I don't think anyone would wanna pay that amount unless their car is in warranty and PML is willing to do that for them..

I got a quote of 4k+ from a workshop in Sin Ming Ind to replace the control unit. Do you think this is reasonable?

Re: Slight tuck fwd whenever I slow down to stop on a traffic liffic light

Yah. Somemore you gotta anticipate when the jerk is coming then brake in/ brake out. I tried driving w/o aircon, seems like prob gone...

Perhaps I'll go PML and highlight the prob during next servicing, if re-programming at $300 can solve the problem I don't mind. Changing the control unit at $6k is abit too much though. Probably gotta live with the prob then.
