This is a character evaluation on her. I do agree with you somewhat in that regard, but this should be a different discussion altogether.

We are talking, very specifically, about her action in trying to apprehend the culprit.

Point is, if she never got to be an MP, this incident would not have happened. She is obviously doing it to gain political mileage. She's also obviously incapable of dealing with more important national issues and has to become a forensic investigator now. As usual, whenever our politicians do something no matter how big or small, they'll mobilise the media for extensive coverage.

And speaking of character, yes her character is indeed questionable during the last GE. All the more she should not be an MP.

My point isn't about mindless bashing. It's more about her putting her energies to better use. There are far more worthy causes to feel strongly about - I don't hear a peep from ANY of the MPs, and certainly not from TPL about the wayang that is the COE, the ERP and - but dirty tampons!?! Floor to floor!?! Good for her - now, do the same with the same dogged determination on the REAL important things that's wrong with Singapore, thanks.

Every ministers have their portfolio. If crime rate is high, head for Home Affairs. No?

So in TPL's case, not her job to ensure her constituency is a pleasant place to live in? Is she allowing a murderer in her zone to go scot free and instead, spend her time catching tampon thrower? If you wanna say what you said, please back it up with some level of facts and I will also appreciate some logic. I am not a TPL supporter and her face irks me btw.

If TPL didn't do anything, NATO.
If Chen Show Mao didn't do anything, he's busy.

If TPL goes to catch tampon thrower... Read this thread.
If Chen Show Mao goes to catch tampon thrower, instant hero. Ai bet mai?

Listen to yourselves people. What happened to all the years of education that taught you to rationalise? Oh by saying that, are you going to say PAP brainwashed me? Really?

Re: So this is what the MPs are busy with .......

Education is a double edged sword. Some just outsmart themselves.

Frankly... we are all brainwashed since we are 7 yrs old by reciting the our PLEDGE without understanding.
And that's why we 're here ...else we would be on the streets rioting... which is a No No .... why? because
we have institutionalised.

Re: So this is what the MPs are busy with .......

I just dun get it... why do ppl insist on running down others completely, character or otherwise just because you dun like someone or dun agree on certain things.

Uncool.

Whether or not her face irks you to no end isn't my point. My point is that she should ensure her time and energies are better spent, to greater avail, and with better returns on the $13000 or $15000/month investment her constituency is paying her, rather than out scoring political brownie points which our Propaganda Times would then go on to milk to death and the afterlife.

Do you think it would be less effective a result had she instructed the appropriate personnel to follow up the tampon-killer-litterer instead of her doing it personally!? What I find unpalatable is that the former method (she getting the right person to get the job done) would be no less effective, but fetch far less political publicity for her, compared to the latter.

Then, it'll get me thinking about her sincerity (although I sorely suspect a sincere politician is an oxymoron), and then it'll remind me of her snafu during the last GE which should have gotten her whole team disqualified but, of course, didn't. For fcuk's sake, people have been jailed for misusing stamps or less!

Anyway, I digress. At the end of the day, I don't believe I'm mindlessly bashing her simply because she looks fugly, has no charisma, makes LKY go for a toilet break when she opens her mouth or whatever. I am questioning her ability to prioritize and yes, at the same time, questioning if that wasn't another publicity stunt to make her (or any other Lui Bin MRT/bus commuter, for that matter) look better than she is not.

Surely you can appreciate the difference.

Re: So this is what the MPs are busy with .......

What do you expect her to do? Pls list.

Re: So this is what the MPs are busy with .......

How come nobody asks whether it was her off day or she was asleep after slogging 18hrs of community work but took it upon herself to quickly get out of bed to attend to residents' complaints?

But it's not possible la, only WP MPs do the above ...and also gahmen n civil officials, ministers, MPs etc cannot have off days or to sleep...

Sorry I political newbie...

Your point is the pay. Or would you share the same rant if our MPs are paid $5000 per month?

I have highlighted the three courses of action, to which both picked the third option. Surely they could have delegated the tasks. We will never know the answer between either choice they picked.

Yet you have made presumptions on the element of "publicity."

Sounds like guilty unless proven innocent, no?

As for the rest of the points, I think they are not relevant in this specific issue. Sure, she have made some boo boos in GE2011 and that means that.... whatever she does from thereon, must be discredited and viewed with immense scrutiny?

Surely, we can discuss an issue beyond one level and and into multiple dimensions of reasoning, can we not?

If that was true, their spin doctors and their media would have sensationalised it to the ends of the earth. Same like how whenever any MP or Minister participates in any charitable events like giving out food or provisions to the needy, you can be sure that the entire media horde would be there to cover and sensationalised the event. On the other hand, there are many volunteers who help out in charitable organisations like Soup Kitchen or Willing Hearts every other day without needing to be in the bright spot light.

Re: So this is what the MPs are busy with .......

That's why I say not possible la. Everything done by gahmen or PAP MPs must have all been well planned with the media all prepped n ready. Conversely, opposition MPs' actions are all from the heart but poor thing no media love...

That's why I always say CCB govt!

Re: So this is what the MPs are busy with .......

Soup kitchen and willing hearts... arent the only voluntary places. Why cant you let ppl do what they want. She can go after dog owners who dun pick up their dog's poo if she wants. I really dun care.

No, cannot. It's a publicity stunt!

I was merely using them as examples. I know there are many other voluntary places. Thank you.

I too don't give a flying F**** about what she does but not when she is trying to do something to gain political mileage with this sibey boh liao stuff. All the more so when many Singaporeans felt so strongly about what she did during the last GE.

Re: So this is what the MPs are busy with .......

Rod, I read the article 6 times...which part gave u the impression that she was trying to gain political mileage? Just want to understand your thought process...cos when I read it, all that came to my mind was "hmm ok, so was the asshole caught?" N "ccb thrower"!"

maybe she really did it to show off but I m curious as to how this was derived from the article...

Its the spirit and motive of her actions that gave me the impression that she was trying to get political mileage. Like some of us have said, she could have instructed or delegated the task to someone else ie grass root leader or police to look into the matter while she spends her energy and time on more important matters. Marine Parade is not the only housing estate in Singapore whereby people throw stuff out of their houses. Can you imagine if every MP or Minister were to do what our dear TPL is doing, we might as well chiat pa tan si liao.
