Things u din't know 'bout ur STOCK F30.

Dear All,

I am new and just collected my car... love the drive but I have 2 questions:

1) Any fellow F30 owners facing aircon sounds like water dripping or loose cling cling sound?
- it is persistent once you start engine.
- sound goes off when aircon is switched off (troubleshoot myself to make sure it is coming from the aircon).

2) Any advice if N gear can be engaged when engine is switched off (in case of stalling and needs to push to side etc)?

Thanks in advance.

I am also hearing the cling cling sound during when the car is idling. Not so when driving since the road noise drowned the sound. Hence the air con sound is not so loud.
Since both of us experienced the same, so is it normal?

Definitely not normal I believe. Have you gone back to PML for this issue?

I went back to PML Service and left my car there for the day to troubleshoot.

Called me and said they purged out the gas and replace the gas and solved.... but the sound is still there when I collected and started the engine.

Feedback they had another owner having the same issue and they recorded the sound and will check with Germany.

I have yet to follow up with them.

I was just at a workshop changing my rim and they checked and mentioned it could be the blower motor that is causing it... and I will talk to PML on this.

Really quite disappointed that they are unable to solve it and especially for a new car.... it's llike where is the QC before handing over!

Wow! I thought buy BMW brand everything swee swee, ya quite disappointed. Hope they solved the problem so that when I go back don't have to waste time trouble shooting. To go back to PML I have to take leave, very troublesome for me.
Please keep us updated on your status, thanks!

My aircon sound issue solved. PML checked and discovered level on gas.

Thanks for the update. That's interesting. They also pump new gas during my first visit, but still the same.

Lastest update: After getting the reply from Germany, they are going to bring in a part with a "Mask" word blah blah.... which I didn't get it clearly, to install and mask the sound away.

As a customer and even a layman hearing the part name, I told them this is like curing the symptom but not the root cause.

I am still not convinced. But lets wait to hear from them again when the part arrives and if this can really rectify at all.

@extremeOH , please monitor and update if any issue again (touvh wood!)

PS: I heard a number of customers have brought this issue to PML already.

Just a wild guess - Ask PML to try bleeding the coolant reservoir .....

Air in the water valves usually make some noise .....

You could ask them to program the water valves to shut to test if this is the case - 5 minute job.

Remember to revert else the rear vents would spout hot air.

You will need a floor jack and an allen key to release the parking gear IIRC.

I did mentioned to the advisors there in forum a few customers also complained. But he said never heard of. Frankly their service very lacking compared against Japanese car. Before I hand over the car, they did not bother to go through the body check for damage and after hand the car to me over they also did not highlight to me the issues they resolved. No wonder the bros in this forum does not want to go back to PML.

I would thought PML should be expert at this and not us consumer advising them on how to do their job?

Thanks RBB and extremeOH for sharing.

I would rather leave it as it is first while waiting for the parts to mask the sound.

I never liked a brand new car being dismantled and assembled... just my own experience that they might make it worse or other problem appearing out of the blue.

And I agree with extremeOH that they should be the specialist, but seemed like the specialists are external workshops and people like yourself RBB : )

Discovered something new recently, I did not know that the arm rest behind the hand brake can slide forward and backward. Cool!

just passed 2 years not long ago, had Drive Train. Found of one of the 'ignition coil' spoiled. PML said it was wear and tear. Any one has the similar issues?

Haha extremeOH, I thought that should be one of the first few things one will discover when playing around : )

@outlook , sorry mine still a new car.

Since just 2 years only, covered by the 3yr warranty?

First time owned a conti car, so never thought that could be possible.

On Outlook's issue, best way to avoid warranty claim is to blame it on wear and tear.

Johnny cash: yes, it is covered by 3 years warranty.
extremeOH: first time too. Bad experience in the past 2 years.

A poll: in 1st year or 1st two years for your new car, how many times the car was sent to service for a fault? What are the faults? Just like to judge my case is extremely bad or on average ...

I had a E28 520i, E39 520 2.2i, E60 520 2.2i, must say I enjoyed the E39 best, my son drove it up North and hit 230 kph! told me it was so stable... because of this I waited for the F30 as its' dimensions are nearly same as E39. Though I had wonderful experience with E46 and E90 320, first being a 2.2 6 cylinder real smooth E46, and the E90 is a 2 litre 4 cylinders and less satisfying. Collected the first launch F30 335i in Mar 2012 and still enjoying its smooth power though I had several parts changes even after warranty. Still will stay with BMW as it is truly a driving dream. Merc can't match, no Japanese car gives satisfaction as the BM. Value for money...

Glad you are still enjoying it. It's all subjective when others have different experiences.

I'm having second thoughts! : )

Yes read many negative stories on current cars, maybe I'm just spared of the Monday cars?
Have not driven any new Merc though I visited their showrooms couple times lately.
C class is terrible at the back, as squeezy as old E90 3 series.
S class is pretty but somehow its look age quickly.
Have not look at the new E class yet, looks great in photo. BMW need to have their designs trend setting...
Don't like the SL AMG etc - Porsche still set standard here.
Audi, heard many negative stories too so no better.
Anyway just enjoy my drive before car becomes too exorbitant to own here after 2020!
