this info got to me yesterday:

Please take note of the new pricing from Traffic Police & the map of the Traffic Police where they usually hide their Mobile Speed Camera for your reference. NEW Price List from Traffic Police...
(Price increase without further notice).

Speeding:
Exceeding 01 - 20km/h = $130 Fine + 4 Demerit Points.
Exceeding 21 - 30km/h = $150 Fine + 6 Demerit Points.
Exceeding 31 - 40km/h = $180 Fine + 8 Demerit Points.
Exc! eeding 41 - 50km/h = more than $200 Fine + 12 Demerit Points + Court
Exceeding 51 - 60km/h = more than $200 Fine + 18 Demerit Points + Court
Exceeding More Than 61km/h = more than $200 Fine + 24 Demerit Points + Court.

Driving Offences:
Failing to Put On Seat Belt = $120 Fine + 3 Demerit points
Crossing Double White Lines = $130 Fine + 4 Demerit Points
Careless Driving = $150 Fine + 6 Demerit Points
Inconsiderate Driving! = $170 Fine + 9 Demerit Points + Court
Dangerous Driving = more than $200 Fine + 24 Demerit Points + Court + Vehicle Compounded
Illegal Racing = more than $200 Fine + Vehicle Confiscate + Court

Mobile Phones:
Phone/Text and Drive = $200 Fine + 12 Demerit Points + Phone Confiscated
You cannot hold your phone in your hand when you drive, even with loud speaker and/or ear piece

Drink Driving:
For First Offence = Up to $5,000 Fine and/or Jail Term + License Suspended + CourtFor Second Offence = Jail Term + Fine + License Su spended + Court

Other Offences:
Fail to signal when changing lanes = $70 Fine
Making an illegal U-Turn when no U-Turn sign = $70 Fine
Driving after 7pm without headlights or taillights = $30 Fine
No number plate = $70 Fine
Obstructed or obscured number plate = $70 Fine
Number plate of unapproved type = $70 Fine.

Court Cases:
If you want to be a hero and fight the court case yourself, and you lose, you pay the court charges yourself, which will add to your fine.
Court charges are at least $200 and above.

Demerit Point System:
Let's say you have 0 points on 1st January 2009, and you committed the offence of 'Failing to Put On Seat Belt'.

So now, you will have 3 demerit points and this will last for one Year.
If during this one year you have no demerit point offences at all, your 3 demerit points will be gone on 1/1/2010.

But, if during this one year, from 1/1/2009 to 1/1/2010, you commit another offence with demerit points, your very first offence will be extended for another year until 1/1/2011.

gosh! it makes no sense to drive nowadays...its so much to consider..sign boards, traffic lights, pesdestrian, motobikes, high ins premiums (oh btw, the guy who got suck up by NTUC this morn papers is my fren) etc....

for the high end premium speeding ones, the fine is too low. 51-60 is now (grapevine) valued at S$1.7K.

Does anyone have a logical explanation as to why his car skidded?

Usually he MAY be speeding and tall vehicles higher centre of gravity or maybe bald tires? Raining or some oil spots?

Demerit Point System:

Pardon my stupid question: I got 12 points on 7 May 2009.

i) If I stay clear of any offences, my 12 points will be gone on 7 May 2010. This I understand.

ii) If suay suay I ganna, say 3 demerit points, on 1 May 2010, then my existing 12 points will be extended until 7 May 2011.
But how about the 3 demerit points?

Sorry for the ignorant question because this is the first time I ganna demerit points after 17 years of driving.

u are very the correct, within 12mths kanna again will have to follow the latest offence date another 12mths then take back all ur points.

Just say you want to lao sai, need to jump out of car once you reach petrol station's toilet, so cannot put on safety belt 'cause it will impede your rush to run to the toilet and hence increase your chance of soiling your pants.

a) LTA send letter to you abt this new offence
b) LTA request you to go for a "talk" abt road safety
c) yr 15 pts will ONLY be cleared on 1/May 2011

robot, I think u better think twice abt that 325 cabrio liao!
drive taxi better.

I don't think all 15 points will be cleared on 1 May 2011 leh.
Based on your first post, "your very first offence will be extended for another year until 1/1/2011."
a) That means my first 12 points will be extended until 7 May 2011, right?
b) But my second offence of 3 points, I am sure liao.

(wow lao, if licence kantong, taxi also cannot drive liao...)

i kanna the 1-20km offence at AMK ave 5..went down to appeal..the officer told me i was caught by laser camera operated by mobile team on the overhead bridge..my goodness..first, it is noon time when they took the shot..second, they are desperate enough to operate at a non-sheltered overhead bridge during this HOT period..third, they hide themselves quite well (could not see anyone on the bridge during that day) as i normally keep a look-out for TP on sheltered overhead bridge (a cab drive give me this tip sometime ago)..now..can only wait for the outcome..:furious:

You will have all your 15 points reinstated on 25 Dec 2010.

It's not that complicated actually - they punish you by resetting the clock from the latest traffic violation.

You will feel the pinch when you tio points just before your reinstatement, like a month before or something.

I know because years ago, I kena 6 and 8 pts within a month of each other before for speeding, and just a month before the 1-yr reinstatement (from the latest 8 pts offence), I kena another 3 points for parking on a double zig-zag line (I stopped to drop a cheque, and 1 minute was all it took for me to kena ticket damn sway).

Which meant that I had 6 points left and yet another year to sit out before reinstatement of all 17 points. LL suck thumb and drive like angel lor. :verysad:
