So, in other words, there are good FTs and bad FTs...just as there are good Singaporeans and bad Singaporeans. So maybe people should stop using this generic term 'FT' that has taken on derogatory connotations. Otherwise 'FT' just means 'foreigners I don't like', which is pretty subjective, don't you think?

Agreed. Good FT and bad FT, just like good Singaporeans and bad ones.

However, when an Angmoh couple without a reservation gets a table ahead of you, or when a PRC boy can get away with calling us dogs (how come no one threw the sedition act on him by the way), it kind of makes you wonder somewhat..... Nothing subjective about those examples I quoted!

By the way, why are you so defensive about FTs? Are you from the PAP or are you an FT of dubious intention yourself?

Re: Two killed, 3 injured in Rochor Road accident

Why do I have to be from PAP or an FT myself, just because I disagree with anti-FT sentiments?

This is where it leads, really - a person must have "dubious intentions" if he isn't against FTs. I guess the next thing will be to say that "a true Singaporean" would be against FTs?

As for your examples - the restaurant one just means that the restaurant operator is racist, and as for the PRC fellow criticizing Singaporeans - he did get punished, albeit not as harshly as some would have preferred. As for Sedition Act, maybe you should go read the act and see whether what he did fits...

No, not really - as mentioned, I count many FTs amongst my good friends - but I'm selective about them, which, alas, the same cannot be said of the gahmen of the day....

Summary:

1. yellowhandman feels "all FTs are good until proven otherwise"
2. I feel, on the other hand, "all FTs need to prove themselves otherwise"
3. We agree to disagree

Good summary right? Please thank me :)

Re: Two killed, 3 injured in Rochor Road accident

I agreed on pt 2, however I felt yellowman is not wrong too.

I did, and this was my understanding of it:

(a) to bring into hatred or contempt or to excite disaffection against the Government;
(b) to excite the citizens of Singapore or the residents in Singapore to attempt to procure in Singapore, the alteration, otherwise than by lawful means, of any matter as by law established;
(c) to bring into hatred or contempt or to excite disaffection against the administration of justice in Singapore;
(d) to raise discontent or disaffection amongst the citizens of Singapore or the residents in Singapore;
(e) to promote feelings of ill-will and hostility between different races or classes of the population of Singapore.

Re: Two killed, 3 injured in Rochor Road accident

Bottomline = reckless driving = 3 deaths

Irrelevant:

(1) Marque of car = Ferrari or Evo or Cefiro = still reckless driving
(2) Nationality of driver = SG or PRC = still reckless driving

Of course we can even blame the erratic weather and flash flood and COEs and MRT disruption and low sex drive and dropping cock hair on FTs.

The sky is the limit.

Re: Two killed, 3 injured in Rochor Road accident

I believe the phrase "FT" is used in Singapore for derogatory and angst against the influx of foreigners blah blah and as such when one uses "FT", he/she is not being PC about his/her intentions...

Those foreigners we welcome or like or are good frens, we call them expats or simple "bro" or "sis"

Come on, you do not expect to call someone "FT" and then pretend to be "friendly"?? Haha

No, I didn't think he was wrong either. Just that I reckon we have different yardsticks of measurement

How is stirring up Singaporeans to be discontented with the influx of FTs any different? Maybe instead of stirring things up either way, we should be focusing on ways to make things more harmonious.

Sorry, I know using a word like "harmonious" really makes me sound like someone from the PAP :)

You asked a question on whether that china student did anything tat fit the Sedition Act and Wobbles answered.

In legal speak...Asked and Answered. Please stay within the realm of your initial question

Your second question is in a different spectrum

Re: Two killed, 3 injured in Rochor Road accident

....ever reflect & think how others in foreign lands looked @ us Singaporeans...esp during overseas holidays...?

..faster run to get the best seats, food piled up like a mountain during buffets, though cannot finish.....asked for hot water...but when served, complained water too hot.....no "Please", no "thank you"...must fully utilized our dollars 2 the max value..

....cos we pay...we are king.....manners & social grace thrown out of windows......

..Being kaisu is in our culture....so, likewise...Foreign Talents brings with them here...their culture.

Contributing factors undeniable.

Re: Two killed, 3 injured in Rochor Road accident

I think "raise discontent or disaffection" isn't as wide as Wobbles thinks it is. Simply saying things that might p*ss off Singaporeans probably isn't enough.

Hehe. Good to see you've kept your sense of humor :) - I don't think I need to be stirring up anyone's sentiments. The FTs are doing a damn fine job of that, all by themselves - from PRC bus drivers that ram pedestrians, to drunk Angmohs that punch up a cabby and jump bail.

Let's see if I can share with you my perspective on this:

Let's say in a family, there are a bunch of siblings. They make noise, fight among themselves and can be generally naughty some what, being kids. Yet, despite the misbehavior, the parents would still unconditionally love them and might even pamper them - call this the privilege of the genetic bond.

However, I dare say that the parents might be far less tolerant of a neighbour's kid that comes into the house to fight with the kids or make a mess of things in the house.

Same goes with FTs. If the come into a host country, please respect the local customs and attempt to assimilate - might go a long way to endearing yourself to the local populace.

Comfort Delgro launched donation drive for family of late cabby Cheng Teck Hock

Comfort Delgro has launched a donation drive for the family of the late cabby Cheng Teck Hock (pic left)who passed away yesterday after being involved in a horrendous traffic accident in Bugis.

Mr Cheng was driving his cab past a traffic junction when a red Ferrari appeared out of nowhere and rammed into him, overturning his vehicle on the spot.

The Ferrari driver, a PRC ‘foreign talent’ by the name of Ma Chi died on the spot while the Japanese passenger in Mr Cheng’s cab passed away hours later in hospital.

Mr Cheng suffered from massive bleeding in his brain, lungs and liver and was declared brain dead in Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

He passed away at 7.07pm yesterday evening.

Mr Cheng has been working as a taxi driver for more than ten years and is the sole breadwinner of the family. He leaves behind his wife Madam Lim Choo Eng and three children between the age of 16 and 21.

He did not buy any insurance for himself and his family as he was unable to afford the premiums.

His eldest daughter just graduated from a local polytechnic and has to put her plans to study in a university on hold because of her father’s unfortunate demise.

His two younger sons are taking their ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels this year.

Singaporeans can donate to Mr Cheng’s family either in person at his wake under Blk 306 Canberra road, from 13-17 May 2012 or sent a cheque to Comfort Delgro:

Cash donations can be dropped off at the cashier located next to the general service counter on level 1 of Comfort Delgro office located in Sin Ming during office hours (Mondays-Fridays, 8am-5.30pm) by end of this month.

Members of the public can also make cheques payable to “LIM CHOO ENG” and mail them to:

THE CHENG FAMILY
