actually what is middle class? I know ppl who earn 10k a month but still struggle....just curious

Middle class is a pretty big range..would say $4k to $8k. FTs are in direct competion with middle class SGs for middle and higher management jobs here, and the consensus is that SGs are losing out.

Nowadays 10K a month, as a solebreadwinner with a family to support, is not enough to live comfortably.

for your info,the PRC driver is not even a PR, staying here 4 years on a employment pass.
to me he is just a NTS worker, although he drives a ferrari.

i guess it is more worthwhile for the newspapers to write more about this rich NTS worker rather than a singaporean taxi driver.

for your info,the PRC driver is not even a PR, staying here 4 years on a employment pass.

so he doesn't even need to convert his license. just hop in/out of SG auto renew 1 yr.

Yes, he's an FT, but he studied here, and adapted to the local lifestyle, local lingo, plays futsal (and occasionally badminton - but I've never seen an Indonesian play so badly, sorry mate) and hangs out with the local boys.

Do I consider him an FT in the derogatory way the word is used: NO WAY.

Because he's made an attempt to assimilate and join in - and he's a friend.

Similarly, I reckon most of us wouldn't be harsh on the PRC who attempts to speak in English, or the Angmoh who's OK with joining us at a hawker centre.

A newly minted Pink NRIC holder from the PRC who drives an SBS bus but cannot speak a word of English or Malay or Hokkien would still be an FT, no matter what the fcuking IC says.

So, in other words, there are good FTs and bad FTs...just as there are good Singaporeans and bad Singaporeans. So maybe people should stop using this generic term 'FT' that has taken on derogatory connotations. Otherwise 'FT' just means 'foreigners I don't like', which is pretty subjective, don't you think?
