Which engine oil do you prefer

I used to use grade 30 for my previous car....it thins out on hot afternoon making my engine rough...but at nite its nice. So I guess for our climate its not so suitable....prob if our ambience temp is not so high...it should be ok.

For Mobil oil, if you guys dun mind...MY petrol station is selling cheaper than our Mobil here. You can get the oil from MY.

Personally...I perfer Castrol Syntron or Chemlube. Actually...I like Chemlube a lot...its a very underrated oil. Its smooth right up to the next servicing. (10k)

Re: Which engine oil do you prefer

digginig up old thread. someone told me to go n change to motul. got simi doubel ester. the only ester i know happens to hv eggs n bunnies. sorry i think thats easter.

so do i go for torco or motul?

Re: Which engine oil do you prefer

The choice is all up to you. both oils have racing pedigree and are reputable brands. Either way you cannot go wrong (either than cost... )

If you find 1 oil is too rough for your engine then you can change it after 7-10 thousand clicks and go for the other brand. A more important thing to look out for is a workshop that is able to adequately look after your car's needs and is truthful.

Happy hunting...

Thanks Ghostrider. I believe you are correct that the Mobil Syn oil is cheaper in Msia(after conversion). Can save S$10 to 20 ah.Should have done that(buy from Msia) since beginning of the year......here S$80+ ah for 4l 5W-50.

Re: Which engine oil do you prefer

Guys,

Are you saying u changed the oil within the servicing period of 25000km/x months whichever comes first? normally I will just changed the engine oil upon my next servcing time is due.. Does that compromise engine wear? I using PML recommended oil. Cheers mate.

Re: Which engine oil do you prefer

good grief..what oil lasts 25000 km??..:).. i've used Mobil-1, changed per 10000km..now on RP's 15w40, plan to change every 5000...(its cheaper and i get better fuel economy..)

Re: Which engine oil do you prefer

Gwunpkus... Good practice man....

If you keen on changing so often, look for Greame Bull at Pacific Petrolum and buy the oil by 19l pail really cheap... looks like i found a brudder in oils...

Re: Which engine oil do you prefer

MAtes, changing at interval of 10000KM is a good practice. But is it necessary? As earlier mentioned in this thread, as pressure/heat goes in the engine, the engine oil will be coarse but it does'nt mean we have to change(depending on the specs of the oil)
But due to cautiousness and love from the owners for their cars, they change the oil regularly at 5KKm or 10Kkm(depending on type of oil ur using again). That's why PML does'nt ask you back to service the oil and instead gives you a topup oil incase the level of oil is decreasing. Ideally speaking is not 25000KM, due to the idling time on the road, maybe about 20000KM. PML is using Castrol(type?).

Likewise SM motors servicing is about 15000KM when i was having S60. Cheers.

Re: Which engine oil do you prefer

Did try out this Carlube Triple R 5W-40 Fully Synthetic for the past few servicing. My previous Mobil-1 & current Carlube 5W-40 make absolutely no difference in terms of performance. But price-wise, almost 3 times cheaper !!! I dont go for Brand i only look @ Specifications.

I'll go for my recommended VW502.00 spec oil which is Carlube, also notice the "cheaper oil " has more up to date specifications.

Carlube Triple R 5W-40 is wildly used in Europe or other brand. There is no need to find expensive oil.

All syn oil have the same function. why do u need to pay more??? Does price mean gd oil?

I bought two 5 litre carlube at Carrefour at $29.90 per bottle during promotion. Its 5W40. It's cost abt S$75 in UK for the same oil. It's gd deal. Wait for the next sales at Carrefour. It much cheaper then the mobil 1 10w30.

I Estimate the next servicing will cost me less than $100. Where can you find to service your continental car @ this price ?

Besides, Carlube isn't a small company.... it is made by: http://www.tetrosyl.com/

they have been advertising extensively on Premership football stadiums. The oil was developed with Lotus Motorsports, and used by the TVR racing and Morgan racing teams....

Re: Which engine oil do you prefer

Where else can I get torco racing oil besides sungei kadut? Very out of the way.

Re: Which engine oil do you prefer

Yeah, I'm wondering too. But UM2 is the distributor I think

Re: Which engine oil do you prefer

Bro, UM2 is the authorised distributor for Torco. There is a new shipment that just came in yesterday. Direct from USA.

Cheers dude.

Re: Which engine oil do you prefer

I am using Silkolene Pro4 a full ester based synthetic....wonderful oil. You should check your synthetic base, is it ester based or PAO(poly-olefin). Ester based synthetics are way superior than PAOs. They are used in aircraft lubrication...

Tried Fuchs Supersyn 5W-50 too...they are BMW factory fill synthetic oil so there is no worry.

Still prefer Silkolene.

Re: Which engine oil do you prefer

Is it a wise route to try torco -50 oil? Been using mobil 1 all this while. I'm driving an Audi A4 btw.
