Worth buying new F10 523 from PI?

Re: Worth buying new F10 523 from PI?

even PI put your name as OWNER, PML adoption fees of $30K will put you off immediately unless your repair is > $30K and this should be taken care of by PI appointed workshop ... FREE under PI warranty. even after pay adoption fees, have to pay PML first for repair then PML will claim from ah gong in German

unless engine or gearbox blow la . what part defect that cost > $30K ? how many HPFP, Valvetronic motor, Ignition coil can buy. for all minor parts replacement PI authorised workshop should have no problem to replace la since got buy insurance liao.

There are some misunderstanding around. You should not be looking at PML warranty terms. Instead look at the warranty terms from country you intend to buy from. If you buy through from UK, here's what UK BMW website says

BMW UK : Service & Maintenance

Warranty Outside UK
Every new vehicle supplied by a BMW (UK) Limited authorised dealer carries a worldwide warranty. For the first 24 months, should your car need to be repaired under warranty outside the UK then it must be taken to the most convenient BMW Dealer in that country and the work will be carried out under warranty, provided you can show that the vehicle is still within the 24* month warranty period. This can easily be done by producing the service booklet and showing the 'FREE PRE-DELIVERY INSPECTION' box stamped by the selling dealer.

The important thing is: this applies to ORIGINAL OWNER. You just have to make sure your PI register you with BMW UK as an original owner.

PML charges you (according to forummer above, SGD30K) to put your name in the global BMW database. If your name is already on it, then they have no choice but to honour your warranty. Stuggart honoured my Boxster warranty this way.

Hope this helps.

Again, you have to pay Adoption Fee only if your name is not registered with BMW AG. This happens when your PI purchases the car in its name, and then sell it to you technically second hand.

If you have PI purchase the car in your name with an AD in UK, then you are the registered owner. In this case PML would be legally bound to honour your warranty without an adoption fee. And the pay first, claim later clause wouldn't apply either.

Re: Worth buying new F10 523 from PI?

:goodup:good to know that. will definitely bear this in mind when go car hunting through PI
then can bargain with PI for lower price since warranty will be covered by PML.
PI sell car and PML have to take care of the baby for 2 years ... PI must be very song ar

Got it, this step of registration in the country PI bring the car from will cover us with the so called international 2 yr warranty:goodup:
And PML will have to take care of our car like they serve cars from Malaysia that breakdown in singapore

Re: Worth buying new F10 523 from PI?

just for discussion sake, how would PML verify the car "owner" ? aren't every single car that is sold through AD in UK, SG, MY etc are registered in BMW AG database?
what if PI registered the car under a staff name. when they sell the car to another owner, they can ask the owner drive to PI and the staff drive to PML to claim warranty?

pml may want to see the hire purchase agreement or log card (if pay in full) to verify owner?

please pardon my sillyness ... i just got excited that i can buy PI car and claim warranty from PML and no need to pay :D

by right it should work
if PI staff bring the car to PML with foreign country delivery booklet in staff's name i think PML lan lan got to honour the INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY

Re: Worth buying new F10 523 from PI?

then i'm confused that

a. pml sell car to owner a -> sell to owner b -> sell to owner c -> the 1st 2 year international warranty is honoured
owner b and owner c buy the car in sgcarmart and their name are not in BMW AG database right? of coz it's a pml car ...that's answer it

b. uk sell car to owner a (assuming PI staff name / whatever) -> sell to owner b (owner) -> international warranty is not honoured?

ok ... so the determining factor is "foreign country delivery booklet" ?

good discussion :D

Re: Worth buying new F10 523 from PI?

Yeah PML will leave your car in the workshop for one week citing high workload/parts out of stock just to change a defective fuel cap claimed under warranty.

Re: Worth buying new F10 523 from PI?

haha ... good one  or they might say "that's normal", monitor for 2 weeks and come back again
last but not least, they will also ask you did you change rim recently?

Re: Worth buying new F10 523 from PI?

so my idea is just to buy from PI, save the 30k and heck with warranty

Re: Worth buying new F10 523 from PI?

no heck la .. PI still provides warranty thru their appointed workshop .... worst come to worst go bang table at PI workshop lor ... it's not much different from banging PML table

Re: Worth buying new F10 523 from PI?

Bang table at PI workshop? Save the energy as they will totally ignore you. You gonna sue them? I have tried banging but end up losing thousands as write off. After you, they will look out for another carrot. Probably better off banging PML's table. They might entertain you to save embarassment. I still think you may still be able to get a good deal from PML if you are lucky. Like some has said, if you like the car and can afford it, just go for it and pay some premium.

Re: Worth buying new F10 523 from PI?

You only go PI route if the saving is significant else AD is the preffered choice.....in terms of claims involving expensive parts/components..

Morever you get to see nice receptionist and they provide free cappucino & cupcakes but when your warranty is over pls avoid them like ghost...

Kampung Arang Parts Division quite good/helpful..

I can share with you Porsche's process -- I suspect BMW is the same.

If PI or local dealer purchase the cars from Porsche AD, the registered owner field is left BLANK. So if you subsequently buy the car from the PI, you name will not appear in the system.

If you have your PI indent and buy the car from an AD in your name (if they can do that), then your name will appear in the system as registered owner.

Porsche includes a form for all registered owner to fill if they subsequently sell the car to another private owner. The next private owner will enjoy the warranty. If the car is sold to a dealer, the warranty terminates.

Re: Worth buying new F10 523 from PI?

sounds more like "self import" but go through a PI
this can be an option. thanks

Re: Worth buying new F10 523 from PI?

Meet up with another PI yesterday and managed to check out on the premium spec.:

Sunroof
Paddle-Shift
Reverse Cam
Comfort Access
Foldable Side Mirror
Park Distance Control, Front & Rear
Bluetooth Interface
Electric Seats with Memory Function for Driver
Power Tail Gate
17" rims :sleepy: .... good excuses to go for 19" Breyton Race GTS!!!

Premium spec with $15k premium...

But end of the day, higher equipment level compared to PML Highline version with whopping $40K saving... :screwedu:

I can live without the warranty assurance... :yummie:

Re: Worth buying new F10 523 from PI?

higher specs (win) + $40K savings (win) !!!
win+win = double happiness ... :cloud9:

+1 , PI is the way to go

Re: Worth buying new F10 523 from PI?

Thanks guys,

So has anyone been able to buy a car from PI and have his or her name registered in the BMW registry?

does it cost extra? or it is not possible?

that would help set the ease for a lot of people considering PI route
