2010 - new 5 series pricing

i cannot believe they stocked up 500 Cat E's. That is $15 million!!!!!! Well let's see what happens. I am also interested to find out cos I predict COE will hit $60K in April..
am sure there is some buffer from profit. also economies of scale. with so many orders, can afford to make less per car. bottom line is to have good sales before and at launch to set the tone.

Re: 2010 - new 5 series pricing

The OMV for the base F10 is quite low, just over 50K. Even at current CatE COEs, it brings the cost to about 180K thereabouts. Even if COE hits 50K, they should be OK for them....Talk about bringing in a new model with a splash. PML must be really going after market share this year.

shldnt be a problem claiming top spot back from C&C. last min registration of management cars and taxi's last year gave them a 70 car lead over PML to the finish line

the will slowly reduce the overtrades.... then, if COE continues on it's upward trend at the same rate, price will definitely increase.

my guess, it may be late Q2 / early Q3.

There isn't much overtrade for the 5-series, is there? Only the $3k discount. If there is a further increase in COE this round, the price may go up again. But, there is really only so much that a buyer will tolerate, though. The rate of increase is already quite mind boggling.

really depends on how much COE goes up. if few K they will prolly hold firm. they have already held it from 18k to 26k coe. but when they move, they move alot.

like what bro kentonna said, premium of coe vs price of such inelastic cars wouldnt dent consumer interest too much

did not check re F10, but was referring generally to discounts / overtrades offered when I bought the e60.

One thing for sure is that the prices will go up again with COE increases.

For how long can consumers tahan the increase? Where is the upper limit for F10, 523 base model? $250k? $275k? There must be some point that tests ithe inelastic demand.

Re: 2010 - new 5 series pricing

Don't think that we will get to see the days of $20-30k over trades, leading to a $157k 525 (e60) in Feb 09, anytime soon.

The 523 (F10) base is the equivalent of the 525 (E60). The $14k difference between the base and the high line model is in the additional options. So, unless PML comes out with a detuned 2.5l (a la the 523 (E60)) and call it a 520, there won't be a lower cost entry level model. All we need now is another aerospace show

Re: 2010 - new 5 series pricing

As commented by Slater, Big players are Big players......i truly agree.

These folks has all the right management people to play around and lead the market. The same goes to C&C. They too will not subdue to such situation easily.

Only the smaller brands will suffer. And customers buying from entry level car will probably be subjected to torture.....top up top up to collect your car. Else lose your deposits.

Re: 2010 - new 5 series pricing

COE can be easily manupilated either way by dealers. The got 4/6 bids to close the deal.
It's almost like having an imaginary hand to direct to wind to sail north or south.

Re: 2010 - new 5 series pricing

Assuming $75 000 OMV for 535i and $50 000 COE, you're looking at base cost of only $220 250. So the margin in this case is fat. Let's see if they bid aggressively. After all if you can sell but cannot fulfill, that's essentially no sales made. So they may bid really high to secure the COEs and the price increment may be to accommodate armageddon scenarios like $80 000 COE.

That might turn prospective 5 series buyers into 3 series buyers
