6.9mil population in 2030 / PM Lee admits govt lacked foresight

Re: 6.9mil population in 2030 / PM Lee admits govt lacked foresight

Too often I see people condemming the PAP and the current gov on all the blunders that have made but we should also look at the good/right things that have done. I always compare them with our neighbouring countries govs and up todate they are still the best bet.

Opinion piece on the U.S... applies to Singapore as well:

GDP: An Imperfect Measure of Progress - Bloomberg

As useful as GDP is, it has some crucial flaws. It can
obscure growing inequality and encourage the depletion of
resources. It can’t differentiate between spending on good
things (education) and terrible things (cigarettes). It doesn’t
measure the economic services that nature provides, such as the
dwindling wetlands that once protected New Orleans from storms,
or those that don’t come with a market price, such as raising
children. It fails to account for the value of social cohesion,
education, health, leisure, a clean environment -- in other
words, as Robert Kennedy once put it, GDP measures everything
“except that which makes life worthwhile.”

Those black holes (some ** companies).. What is the best?

- Uncover them and cut loss
- let it prolong and cause more issue later on...
** why is so many unexplained investments***

why corporate, mgmt has their own circle and always strive to stay in power.. Only the clean ones retire graciously.. (Great leaders, non corruptive.. Far less nowsaday)

there may be too many dirty laundries to be uncovered.. Look at thaksin.. Megawati

The point here is not PAP or WP.. It is the MP.. The seats need to be given to people who wants to contribute to best of interest.. Not a bureaucracy tools something else..

Filter out jokers and get genuine Ppl who questions and don't follow blindly..
This is beneficial to whichever parties..

Hands down, Lee Kuan Yew for the win. I wouldn't be sitting pretty here today, being the internet hero that I undoubtedly am, if not for him :)

This trend of voting seems to be on party basis rather than calibre of the MP....Thats how i see it in the Punggol by-election...
An elite NonameMWentioned hotshot Lawyer in our Forum even suggested that he will vote for a Fishmonger or a noodle seller just to cast his protest vote pretty much sum up my observation. He is not the only one out there that behave this way..

Society have changed and I dont think the younger generation will tolerate the autocratic style of LKY anymore so the gov is changing to be more receptive to public views but of course like any family or organization there are always some weaker members or idiotic members...Its up to the PM to manage that. If PAP continue to screw up they will be voted out sooner than what you think..

If LKY has finally found the elixir of life and become the PM again I bet you guys will object to his autocractic leadership.

Ever since GRCs were introduced, voting has been about parties and not candidates. That's how the likes of Kate Spade even got in and why hasbeens like Marlboro Tan stay on.

Exactly!

I think the current govt did a pretty impressive job in governing this country to make it so damn desirable for foreigners to want to flock here and for us Singaporeans to like to compare SG with other countries when we go on tour/overseas trips. Therefore I will not fault the govt for wat it has done. Rather, I m picking on them as to why they are still insisting on doing certain stuff when its very clear the population at large is not happy with it. I mean, isn't democracy the will of the PEOPLE? The stupid white paper can even say after CONSULTATION with the public then they come out with this cb white paper.. WTF? SERIOUSLY??

And thats why I am angry and commented that I will vote a fishmonger opposition candidate just to show my anger. If you wave me away from my views, then I will install a fishmonger to make parliament smell of fish

To have majulah singapura, one must compare to advanced societies like the north europe, swiss, canada and even the aussie runs better governance for its people. I am not talking to adopt their welfare system but the policies that are for the better of its citizens and ensuring it is well-implemented. It is the style and mentality of governance.

BTW, during LKY period he also understudied the Swiss's way and today are we ahead of them? No still behind because they majulah too.

If I am planning to be the new citizen to his country, don't i have to consider being squeezed out too by 2030? Unless I am damn rich...Unless the gov is planning to attract the very rich only..

I guess when one think deep, the white paper's formulation is by theory. But it tells me one thing about the government, they have easy way out and not in depth policy for its citizens but only economic progression at our expenses. And the wealth will largely be share by them and the ultra rich. Singapore will be very costly for my children when then turn 20 plus in 2030 to live in... and you and me will pray hard we dont kena any illness which are likely to cost a bomb by 2030.

Re: 6.9mil population in 2030 / PM Lee admits govt lacked foresight

by 2030,only 2 class of citizens left.
those that can migrate and those who cant.
most probably those who can migrate would have left by then.
singapore becomes a transit hub between east and west.
asians become sg citizens for a few years and than they migrate to the west.

i m actually very worried about 2016, what happens when the PAP govt falls, they have control of everything n all the top guys are there for them. The govt will collapse. Temasek n all affiliated companies are under their control. Look at the problems faced in a simple handover of a town council. The MPs n ministers are paid millions n can migrate with ease. We will be left to pick up the shit.

They can go but they can never bring along people's money and reserves. Let them go then hard lesson learnt to rebuild Singapore and it is time to build in another system of governance with greater transparency and independent ministries. We have well inplace infrastructure and workforce, why worried? Didnt our Singaporean stand up in terms of crisis and surival, Mr LKY and his team. Crisis bind everyone together and we will have a new LKY so long we dont give up on each other.

Not much use. U must see how the china students compete in their own country. More than half of the graduates with master degree, double degree or even phd cannot find job.

Probably more useful to pick up skills like culinary, plumbing etc. see how much a plumber earn in aussie.

Best part it is recession proof.
