I remember their previous 3000GTs were horrible handling cars. It had power the chassis couldn't put down and it wasn't exactly that much. Interior was lovely though. That's the only thing they do well.
Bro go test the pagani zonda R it waving to you

Yeah, HAD the intention until i drove it. Not impressive at all and certainly don't feel like its worth that much more over the M3.

bro, u said flagship model, the word itself equates to mass market. does porsche wanna sell as many c2s as possible? hell yeah..

manual gt3 , hard suspension, etc is nt mass market. caters to enthusiasts. same goes with gt2, rs, etc.

if chris harris compares m3, he'll line it up with a gt3.. in terms of enthusiast driving.
if talking abt brand appeal n price, then its another thing, porsche wins.

gt3rs vs m3 gts vs granturismo stradale
911 turbo vs gtr
etc.. more fair comparisons.. all good..

QUOTE=sandman369;829489]I think I know what you are saying, and perhaps it's about the choice of words.

Essentially, I do not think 911 C2S is "mass market", not even in Porsche's terms. The 911 is Porsche's flagship model and can't be mass market. :)

Guys don't be silly. Much as i love the BMW M3, it is NO C2s. The C2s is the most balanced car in the entire 911 range which most would buy, simply because it handles, has good power and lovely to drive all the time.

BMW aims to get into the GT3RS category with the GTS. Thats a serious competitor but it does not automatically equate all the other M cars to the 911 range. The durability of the Porsche is astounding. True that the design is nothing to write home about but when you own a Porsche, its about heritage and Pedigree drive and an entire package. its addictive.

If you've had the opportunity to move through the product range you will respect how the engineers have so clearly defined the drive characteristics of each 911 model to suit the difference preferences and needs. The turbo is so planted while a Gt3 is so excitable.

The M3 has a different DNA and is often compared to the C63 and RS4. Not the 911.

When you are shopping for something in the 911 category, you start to define your wants a lot more clearly. And it is at this point that you appreciate how Porsche has truly lined up a model for almost every preference, yet with that consistent Porsche feel and familiarity. Something you will grow to appreciate over time.

And i hate to burst your bubble, but an M3 is no 911.
bro clar , i tested the boxster S and 991 C2S today . When i drove out of the showroom a old white lambo gallardo spyder was behind me . And he started tailing me in the boxster S and blow his exhaust lol , how can a boxster S stand a chance?:shoot: :shakehea:

In terms of raw power. I prefer the 991 C2S over the boxster though.

Glad u tried both. But on its own, how is the new Boxster S? Balanced and sufficient? The C2S has 400 more cc lah.

Re: Anyone driven the new Porsche 991 C2S
boxster handling is very balance , C2S exhaust is nice , but power i think 911 turbo is in another league , was told will be launch only in 2013 or 2014

Honestly, when i test drove the C2S, power was the last thing in my mind. I knew fully well how fast it is. 991 C2S quarter mile timing is only slightly slower than our M5. I don't need any more power or straight line speed than my M3. Here in SG, it's quite redundant anyway.

The deal breaker for me is still the sound. I just can't like the flat 6 note having lived with the S65. I suspect this is going to f*** me up pretty nicely when it comes to replacing the M3. Now i understand the attachment shown by E60 M5 owners and how much they lament the passing of the V10. I have a V8 and i already love the engine to death. I can only imagine how glorious it must be for their V10...

Re: Anyone driven the new Porsche 991 C2S

QUOTE] bro, is your M5 exhaust here? i drove with my window down. the exhaust and engine sound is nice but not loud enough and has a nice pop sound when you up shift.

With the correct exhaust it will make alot of difference.

Re: Porsche 991 C2S Driven

hi e46sg, if u read carefully my comments are actually refering to Sandman and clar..
and i have no bubble to burst... im a open minded fella when comes to cars

i definitely dig porsche for its racing heritage, timeless shape, and drivability, but my 1st comment is because threadstarter feels the C2S is not hardcore enough as compared to his car, so he decided not to change (nothing wrong with that ) so i ask him to compare his m3 with a 991 gt3 when it comes out , which gt3 sure win. that was what i was talking about la. (anyway comparisons will never end, just buy what yr wallet can achieve and what yr heart wants)

Re: Anyone driven the new Porsche 991 C2S

Personally, i have never considered the Porsche badge as being desirable, so it all boils down to the product's intrinsic strengths. I do not consider Porsche to be superior in automotive engineering when compared against M. What they differ however, is in their product focus. Porsche makes more driver focused cars. Their cars are a whole lot smaller and less practical. M derives their product from the series range, hence, the practicality factor is huge. This great difference in focus sets their cars apart when it comes to sheer performance in the straights and on the track, but that is to be expected. I have no love for the 911 all these years because i feel it's a case of "give a dog a bad name, and it stays." With that, i am referring to their arse-engined 911. That configuration is an anomaly rather than something to be celebrated. They did an arse-engined variant, and it stuck. Because of that, they had to stick with it to capitalize on heritage. Their recent generations are becoming more mid-engined esp the 991. That to me, is more like a quiet admission that it's a flawed layout to begin with.

The most issue i have with Porsche however, is that they depend too much on the 911 as their halo car. Due to that, they try to make all their other cars look like the 911 from Panamera to Cayenne. The result is major eye-sore. Frankly, they din have to cos they have enough depth of strength to adopt a proper design language for those cars and let them stand on their own instead of making them all look like toads. I would have bought a Panamera GTS if it came with a 5 seater with decent looks. I prefer a large NA V8 over a FI for my large sedan.

I do not automatically equate Porsche as being superior to M in every way. For a start, i don't like how the 911 sounds and their racing derived cockpit does not appeal to me. The sound part is the hardest to overcome, but this is purely subjective. I find it incomprehensible that anyone who has owned the S65 would consider the 991 as being anywhere near in the acoustics and they prob feel the same about me. When shopping for cars at this price bracket, desirability is very big in my book. If the next GT3 is gonna get a big ass spoiler at its tail, it's a fail for me. I equate large spoilers to bad taste and boy racers. Ferraris never needed big spoilers.

The day when M is allowed to make their own cars is the day when we see real competition with Porsche. Until then, product focus, not engineering, will continue to set them apart.
