Re: bad experience in PML

Got time to read through your thread, overall only one comment. The bad experiences i had faced is wholly true, and i do not where you r coming from. Maybe someone from the originator? If you want to know the true story, i will be at PML Alexandra this coming Monday.

Re: bad experience in PML

Yes, i agree that all machine do have problem, but issue comes after another and most alarming is that i have to call them after 3 long weeks to remind them about my steering column which was not rectified after numerous complaints during my visit. I do not have any problem with my previous C-class and E-class with C&C. The longest time they took is only 1 week to recall you back for replacemant.

Re: bad experience in PML

Why not just imaging, if you took the car for just 5 days and spending almost 1 month in PML workshop.

Re: bad experience in PML

I have sent my car to PML many times. And many times, I get the feeling that the mechanics are seriously understaffed and overworked. I do not feel I have received service which can be said to be good in any way. I have received promises after promises which are mostly unfulfilled eventually. And the most annoying part is that I receive very vague answers about what went wrong with my car. This isvery much the opposite of what I experienced at C&C with a Merc.

I have given up on BMW. The great drive does not justify the amount of time I spend at the workshop. Mercs are more lao-tu. But cars must work decently and from my personal experience, BMW just doesn't measure up. A lot of advertising and imagery accompanied with cars that fail at doing the most basic of functions.

Re: bad experience in PML

Yesterday I posted something in the forum section on this site about BMW reliability issues. I am not from another marque and I have no vested interests whatsoever. I purchased a brand new BMW because I genuinely believed all that I saw and heard but was sorely disappointed.

I concede my words might rile some people. I also concede my car could be one with more issues that others. I don't know. This is my personal experience and my opinion. I am just extremely angry that my 1.5 year old 5 series can jerk and stall at below 1500 rpms. I thought this is only the sort of thing that happens when you release the clutch too quickly in a manual car. I have been maintaining my car faithfully with PML. I just cannot understand nor accept that such a thing can happen with a luxury marque. Because of this, I have a lot of apprehension of what is in store for me if I were to keep my car.

In addition, there has been this persistent rattling coming from the back of the steering wheel. I have been to the workshop no less than 3 to 4 times to do something about this. They say it is this and that, change this and that, and it all still comes back again. Only this time, there is more rattling coming from a wider area in behind the dashboard.

I must say BMW is a fantastic drive. Esp take off from the lights and when cornering. I like the car very much but cannot live with the number of times it has forced me to the workshop and the kind of service and response I have received in the workshop. Some of you might face similar problems and still love BMW. If you do, I take my hat off to you because you must really love your car even with all its shortcomings. Unfortunately, my affection for my car is not so unconditional.

Re: bad experience in PML

its more of an issue with the dealer i.e. pml than the marque imo...

i remember the long unhappy threads regarding the first few e90s as well...

like football fans.. we're loyal to the clubs even though they're not performing well.. same goes for a lot of owners on this forum. best of luck with your next car. no more lemons hopefully.

Re: bad experience in PML

hi there
just orderd a e90; honestly poor management of expecations esp when one pays a premium price... Some PIs do better.. what an experience.....

Re: bad experience in PML

I am about to get my 320i soon but reading these posts is giving me cold sweats guys.....

Re: bad experience in PML

I can honestly sympathise with the bad experiences you guys have endured with PML. Gotta bear in mind this is a case with the authorised dealer - not the car. Had the car been more problematic than its competitors, many of us had been suckers for too long sticking blindly to the brand.

I am currently driving my third bimmer - no issue in all 3 cars at all. I had minor teething issues with PML in my first E46 sedan, to which I switched to J4C and BVO for a complete resolution. I serviced my second bimmer (an E46 cabrio) with BVO - not a single issue at all in the 2-year reign. Mind you, these are pre-owned.

And now, I have bought my current ride from a parallel importer with established workshop to support the car from an aftersales perspective. I can still choose to use the likes of BVO to service the car, lest I could not lay any trust on them. But I can.

My point is this - increasing we see more marques on the road bypassing the authorised dealership. Do we necessarily need them given (1) the fat margins they levied on the dealership (2) the poor aftersales service? Go PI. And be less reliant on PML. Use external workshops for minor stuff. No? Warranty void? Come on. If you cannot trust a German machine to hold up for the first 3 years, why buy one in the first place? Dun let them hold you by your balls !!!

Just my two cents.

BTW, I saw the following cartoon from E90posts.com. Guess some US guys are singing the same bitter tunes......

Re: bad experience in PML

I agree. the car is great. Based on its OMV, reviews on handling, JD power's reviews, this is the continental car i would get (used to drive jap sports cars). Somehow I personally feel that a premium ride should be accompanied by some sort of premium quality service or follow up (not just about a great looking showroom) (I guess my expectations is that of Lexus). Again it depends on who is attending to your car and you

I am glad there are alternative channels to service the car just in case. Thanks to market forces.

Not when there is no direct competition to the (perceived monopolised) dealership and "approved" workshop.

Fact 1 - there are reputable PIs out there.

Fact 2 - PML's not necessarily the better workshop. In certain cases (where bodyworks are concerned) the jobs are outsourced. Given the price they charged, the poor service and the lagged waiting period, it makes no sense to stick to them.

Re: bad experience in PML

thanks much; great inputs. sounds like the principal of my last ride :)
will need to trouble you for the list duirng the course of time (are they the same as the ones listed in the homepage). my list of workshops etc will not be relevant to this new ride entirely.
thanks for sharing

Bro,

PML doesn't consider 3 series 'Premium' cars. Its entry level to them.

Re: bad experience in PML

yep, same here, haven't encountered any bad service so far. touch wood!

Re: bad experience in PML

my dream come true somewher 4 mths plus ago, so far had encounter 2 issues with the car after it were delivered.

1) found out got mild scratches:furious: :furious: :furious: on the front left bumper on the 4th day while washing. they 1st try to buff it, and notice the scratches still there, they try ask me how come I nvm tell them the day or 2nd day after I collected the ride.:furious: :furious: I told them its not obvious at all. I said if I nvm had washed my car that morning I didn't even notice. cos its only visible under sunshine directly. they offered to re-spray, but I didn't send in for it cos I need the car almost everyday. anyway its really barely noticeable. its like even if you observed my bumper u won't notice wan lo... only very very careful inspect under sunlight or very bright place than u could notice it.:juggle: :juggle:

2) 2 1/2 mths later go back to complaint about the rattling noise within the cabin, NNB pay so much, yet! rattle noise everyway.:furious: :furious: :furious: decided to call up PML and booked a services check with the adviser through phone (friendly staff), when I was there that morning, some SA name 'Paul' who attend me and we went for test drive in my car to rectify wher the noise come from. during test drive he too notices the noise and suggest some possible repairs/fix that could be done to solved my complaint. then he booked me another service slot to go back for repair. when sending the 2nd time it was SA named CHARLES EBENEZER T. who sign in my car for repair suggested by PAUL. I don't even had to mention to him any of my problem. the same evening received called from PML to collect my car. found some hair litter around my rear seats, looks like some ah nee do saloon hair cut business inside my car. most important no more noise till now.:) :)

overall I never expect much from PML, as long as they don't play wayang, archery about problems, and get my problem/complaint solved I'm a happy customer. that little scratch thingy and hair littering on the rear i can still bared with it.

but compare to my previous ownership experience as TOYOTA ALTIS, PML customer services standard still had lots to learn. mind u, I'm jus driving almost entry range of TOYOTA. almost brought myself a CAMRY:cloud9: , but nvm...

jus my 2 cent.

still waiting to read about your problem in details. please post and shared with us.

Re: bad experience in PML

Yes, I must say the 3 years I had owned a Lexus, and my 1 year (and still counting) on a BMW. Borneo Motor's level of customer service and car care is IMHO leagues ahead of Performance Motor's. No compare, really.
