05-06 build quality is not v gd. esp the interior. quite some noise evwrywhere. 07 onwards bmw changed them and the subsequent batches r better. u shld lay aside at least 4k to settle wear and tear.. valve seals/oil seals/gearbox solenoid/mountings/absorbers/brakes/radiator/alternator/aircon probably need some replacemwnt down the road.
advise is to get a high milege 06 523, 2-3owners. prev owners prob did alot of replacements for u alr. or just get a low milege 07 523 and do the rest in future slowly....

most importanrlt, testdrive more cars. u'll b surprised at how different the cars can feel, esp if prev owners took care of e ride.

that's a great suggestion man.. appreciated

Hi all, sorry to thread-jack, as I can't create a new thread..

Am intending to get a E39... any E39 owners here to give advise?

any advise would be gladly appreciated!!!

Re: Buying 2nd hand BMW

are you familiar with old cars, repairs, etc? if not i would strongly suggest you look into a newer car

would like to find out more on what ate the things to look out for and potential upgrade possibilities.

COE renewal may not be value-for-money. Also high interest for COE loan.

Re: Buying 2nd hand BMW

Is this the car?
Used BMW 520i Car for Sale in Singapore, - sgCarMart

Looks ok lah, COE till 2019. Can buffer some $ for repairs. Better to start a new thread with "E39" in the title so those who know more about the car can advise.

Re: Buying 2nd hand BMW

Hey robintanlm,
every thing gives problem when it becomes old but it depends on you that how you will resolve those problems so the thing is that it depends on maintenance.

Re: Buying 2nd hand BMW

E39 very nice if do it up, lot parts now and cheaper too. Most important gotta find a old school mechanic/workshop to maintain it, there are quite a few in JB btw since they have more e39 running around.

Re: Buying 2nd hand BMW

BMW hard to find only 1 owner, esp > 4-5 yo car, since they mostly change car after 2 years on average, so 2-3 owners is quite common. Best is to find an enthusiast as previous owner, most preventative maintenance taken care of, not wait till broken then fix type.

hey guys,

was wondering if sgcarmart would offer a better deal over here? or there's hidden agenda from the dealers. if the vehicle has m0re than 2 or more owners, is it still a good car?

choosing 3 series over 5 series is a headache but seriously most of you guys would suggest to go with the feel when test driving?

Re: Buying 2nd hand BMW

Hi,
I am looking at f10 pre owned that is less than 3 years old..
Is that a good choice ??
Because if the car has any problems, I can bring in to PML, to ask them to fix..
Any advise on that???

Re: Buying 2nd hand BMW

Heng sway one. Best to ask somebody knowledgeable to go down with you to test, see, check, etc.

My car has been relatively trouble free for the past 1 year.

Re: Buying 2nd hand BMW

Ppsl selling price is much higher than what the dealers are asking..
I think should not have too big a problem if the cars are under warranty ..
What about e200??
Saw one with Barbus kit..
Very nice, but a bit too heavy on the eyes.. what do you think??
