Re: Buying a 2nd Hand 3 Series

Hi All,

I am very very new to this forum and i came across it due to recently looking to get a 2nd hand 325i.

Hopefully i am able to get some information i need here as to how to better identify a highline model from a one thats not.

How do you check the mileage of the car even after the dealer has informed you of the car's mileage on hand?

Would really appreciate your help here in helping me get a decent car and not get conned.

Thanks a lot.

Re: Buying a 2nd Hand 3 Series

get the dealer to endorse and buy a warranty. with the current lemon law, they wont try to do anything funny these days.

Re: Buying a 2nd Hand 3 Series

Thanks, but i would like to know how to differentiate a highline model from a one thats not, and also what to expect or look out for for a 325i convertible.

Hi guys,

New to this forum and seeking some advice. Looking at '08 e92 325/335, may I ask what are the options availabke from pml in 2008 for these 2 models so I can know what to look out for when viewing the vehicles?

Although having the idrive is quite sart but to lessen one worry, you can live without it. But there's also a saying...no idrive..like not driving a beemer.

Welcome Alexis! good choice! Think the most obvious would be the exhaust. The 325 would have the dual exhaust on the left while the 335's exhaust can be done to look like M3. And if i am not wrong, 335 has higher specs n features - sunroof, idrive, etc. If i am not wrong, 325 has the highline model or the basic model (less sunroof, idrive, etc).

No matter what choice, it is a cool looking coupe! Good luck in the hunt and do buzz me when u have got you ride! Convoy time... :)

2-door rocks!!

Re: Buying a 2nd Hand 3 Series

Thx Kevinbmw... Yup the options I was thinking about are stuff like Idrive, sunroof, speakers etc. think the 325 is pretty much just the highline or basic model, Im not too sure abt the 335 but ive seen some 335 and noticed all have sunroofs.

Yea I'm loving the coupe look :) convoy sounds fun!

yea noticed the 335 mostly in sunroof. Perhaps that is considered STOCK option. or otherwise Bo pien..lol..
anyway to me the lesser features, the lesser problems! =)

Convoy when you get your car..

Re: Buying a 2nd Hand 3 Series

Hi all....newbie here. I bought a 2nd hand 320 recently and looking for a place to service the car. Am afraid PML would be expensive....any seniors here can educate me? Gone thru the site sponsors, but also not sure who to choose. Any suggestions here? Mine is registered in Apr 2007, mileage is 115k.

Hi, collected my 06 325 (140k mileage) recently and sent the car to mbm for changing of engine oil and oil filter. Find the bill of 250 ok. The bigger ticket items are:
1. Engine oil leaking all around... Going to fork out ~1.6k to get all the seals, o rings, gasket replaced...
2. All 4 shock absorbers leaking and bushing cracked... Going to replaced with sachs parts at ~1.3k...

To 'sweeten' the deal, have to leave the car there for 2.5days...

Hope your ride is in a better condition then mine...

Cheers...

Re: Buying a 2nd Hand 3 Series

Go BVO man they specialise in BMWs everytime you go there nothing but BMWs unlike mbm which deals with many other types and makes.

Re: Buying a 2nd Hand 3 Series

Hi Guys,

Any advise on selection between pre LCI 320 & 323..?

Am in the midst of sourcing my first beemer, prefer 323 but its really not a lot options available. Whereas 320 got too many till dunno which to choose.

If you can choose your ride again, will you take 320 or 323? Also, whats the difference in FC?

Thanks & regards.

Re: Buying a 2nd Hand 3 Series

Definitely go for 323 as it's an IL-6 and 2.5L if you can afford it and i hear it's more reliable.

The 320 engine which is an inline-4 is ultra sensitive, and is quite well known for all sorts of engine leaks / water leaks / so wear and tear costs is quite high. Engine issues aside, you have to look at potential auto gearbox issues, etc.

There are alot of 320's in the market but most are in need of quite alot of maintenance to bring it up to running specs, so you have to choose carefully.

One dealer told me before when buying BMW, when given a choice, buy the unit that has a full servicing record (i.e. hard copy paper), compared to one that doesn't have.

Even that i suggest you bring your intended target (320/323) to a BMW specialist such as Munich Auto (AD), BVO, or R2D to get it assessed properly. STA / Vicom cannot tell you specific BMW problems to look out for as they are not specialist in this make.

Finally, i am driving a 320i and loves the car for the way it handles, drives, and the safety i feel in it. However, i have been there, done that, and spend quite alot to maintain it so this may not what everyone is looking for - esp most of us that have come from Japanese ownership previously.

Hope this helps
