E90 engine oil leak experience

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

i was thinking oil seepage is a common problem among most e90. so if the dealer can fix it for me or give me a discount i dont mind, problem is i dunno exactly how much. plus the absorbers, and brakes... hahha. but just to check, are these common problems faced by most e90s, or only this one in particular. thanks

bros i need some help here. appreciate and thanks in advance before going on. going for my bmw 320 prefl (2006, milege 118000km, quoted price at 10000/yr depreciation) and here's the AA evaluation report. Please advise on how much needed for repair and if its wise to proceed with purchase.

1. please check engine coolant content
2. engine oil sump joint, oil sump sensor, flywheel area seepage.
RHS engine block and water pump area dumped with oil.
3. rear rhs shock absorber oil seepage
4. rear both shock absorber bump stop torn
5. all 4 brake discs worn

Yes agree. high mileage and also lots of things to change. there are many units in the market. the price may be cheap because of all these but it will cost you more time and money to remedy them. And due to mileage, more things to change potentially...

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

dude, the car looks like it has been driven hard and not maintained.

walk away and look for something better.

not worth the trouble and cost. unless you are prepared to spend more than $10k upfront to solve all these issues - change all brake discs, all shock absorbers, solve engine oil leak issues, etc.

which also means that your depreciation will increase to > $12k/yr.

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

Bro,

05-06 320i (aka e90) will have all the wear and tie items, oil leakage first, then water leakage, then aircon coil/radiator problems, worse is engine or transmission problems.

If the dealer or previous owner can't provide all the servicing records, it usually means the car is not serviced, and you can expect a min 5k bill just to get all the wear and tear up to running condition (this exclude engine/tranny problems).

Also, AA report is useless as E90 has specific problems to look out for, best to get BMW specialist (Munich Auto, BVO, r2d) to do proper evaluation, then re-negotiate price with dealer and do repairs yourself.

Better yet buy a newer LCI e90 with less mileage, or 323/325i less problems. e90 reach 100k all the wear and tie problems will surface. Hope this helps.

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

Low mileage cars also headache, as the PML svc interval in 06-09 if i am not mistaken was 25k.

Most cars that was serviced once a year, or even longer interval (meaning oil was not changed) will have sludge problems in this climate.

Best is to open engine valve cover to check the engine internals so see if it's sludged up or not, through a competent BMW workshop.

Aiyoh! Stick to main areas, and don't travel at night.... I go in almost weekly for makan and petrol... so far so good. Always stick to the more crowded and prominent petrol stations... Don't go to ulu ulu ones!

Hey bro lkm,

You forgot most of the car jacking, robberies at knife or gun points all done at petrol kiosks haha?

whether main areas or ulu ones, be vigilant. Things will still happen, just a probability kinda thing. ultimately, there will be risks that we all need to take and dangerous places we all need to go sometimes. Just try to decrease the frequency so the probability is lesser. What else can we do since life is not perfect I guess =)

i'm not sure what oil PML uses for servicing. it just says LUB9000 in the invoice. But i bought this 5W-40 oil for my latest service at PML. at $16 per litre it's half price of what PML charges for their oil.
