IKM is right.
The disadvantage of using shorter springs to lower a car is that the shock travel distance is reduced. And all shorter springs that people install to lower their cars are also stiffer and have to be shiffer. Thus cusing the shock shorten the travel since a stiffer spring does not compress as far as a softer spring under identical conditions.
The shock is like not fully function to what it suppose to. When shiffer spring limit the shock travel distance, and shiffer spring with normal shock damping causes mis-match. the shock now it almost useless. It reduces the life span of the shock too.
Imagine using a shiffer/higher rating spring and stock shock damping, spring compress and spring back very fast, but shock is too weak to prevent it from springing back too fast. It will end up.......
