E90 engine oil leak experience

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

IKM is right.

The disadvantage of using shorter springs to lower a car is that the shock travel distance is reduced. And all shorter springs that people install to lower their cars are also stiffer and have to be shiffer. Thus cusing the shock shorten the travel since a stiffer spring does not compress as far as a softer spring under identical conditions.

The shock is like not fully function to what it suppose to. When shiffer spring limit the shock travel distance, and shiffer spring with normal shock damping causes mis-match. the shock now it almost useless. It reduces the life span of the shock too.

Imagine using a shiffer/higher rating spring and stock shock damping, spring compress and spring back very fast, but shock is too weak to prevent it from springing back too fast. It will end up.......

I am not good in explaining by writing, hope it does not confuse you guys....lols

Just my 0.02 cents

Went to reputable shop at sin ming to change battery few weeks ago...when I ask about the price over the phone was quoted $260...and say confirm cheaper than pml....after changing bill became $3xx....hidden added cost was labour, reset computer and gst....plus attitude quite bad...I ask how come never say on phone reply was you never ask about labour and reset...

I am going back jb next time...

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

You should name the workshop here.... This is also to help fellow forumers here from being subjected to something like that.

Also, it is unacceptable to quote without the GST price.... IRAS: Displaying prices

I get very irked with people who run their businesses like that. With the power of the internet these days, it's not difficult for news of a bad service (and also good service) to spread. Use this forum to weed out the scums and let's share about the good ones.

It's ok lah...just feel wronged coz the guy gave me a "you mean you dont know must pay labour and reset computer and gst" look on the face while pretty female cashier is waiting to collect money...could be a tactic hehe.

I still advocate going to local workshops for jobs below $500. Just need to do more homework....spend more money to save time loh.

Hi Ikm,

So you only change the shock absober? What about the other accessories for the suspension? You used back the old one?

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

Nope... Bought the shock absorber covers, new bump stops, new rubber piece that sits on the extreme ends of the springs, new mounts. The guys at ES should be able to tell you what needs to be replaced.

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

Ikm,

Can PM me the total cost for the suspension including all accessories that u bought from Eng Soon.

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

Cannot remember already lah.... why don't you drop by Eng Soon and ask? The other "stuff" are not that expensive compared to the shock absorbers itself.

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

I am also on new BMW stock shocks and springs. If have higher budget, get the Bilstein ones from Eng Soon as they are supposed to be better.

Btw rem not to change your springs, and only the shock absorber gets worn out over time. I backside itchy also changed my springs, now my front wheel well gap like 4-5 fingers which is so ugly. THink it's been like 4-5 months yet it doesn't settle down. Should have kept my old springs.

Like lkm mentioned, not ethical to post here as there are paid advertizers (workshops) which are just as good, again, not all will concur with Jaybee workshops, I trust lKM will PM you soon.. he is the regular patient now... hahahaha !

Okie....
A qn to all bros who brought their cars to Francis to do an overhaul, how did you guys sort out the logistics ? I mean Permas is quite a distance & an overhaul takes a couple of days...

Mine... the problem started after I replaced all the oil seals in SG, now my tranny also seems to need solenoid replacement.
Sianz.

Moral of story, buying a low mileage car doesnt mean anything. It is the engine hours that matters :(
