Re: E90 engine oil leak experience
Hi Jenvid,
The real problem is not the mileage or how old or how new the car is, it's the OCI (oil change interval) and also how well the previous owner(s) took care of the maintenance.
From what i know, because of PML 25k km OCI, many engines got sludged up. Worse yet, can you imagine some new owners who hardly drive and stucked to the 25k OCI, it could be an oil change once in 2 years? I mean we all know fully synthetic must change at 10k right, or max 6 months, whichever comes first?
Now for the gearbox, BMW says it's a lifetime unit and ATF no need to flush/change. The lifetime defined by BMW is 100k miles, or 160k km which is what they expected the gearbox to "die". Well, die hard BMW enthusiasts or those who know better would stick to 40k ATF change, and their gearbox should be better than ours.
That said, i know for a fact the solenoids is a easy part to give way, it's made of plastic, yes plastic so sooner or later in this heat it will break down so you do need to replace it.
Francis workshop BTW is only 15min drive from JB causeway, in fact from my house in the East it's only 45km one way so i drove there. Got Francis to drop me at the JB immigration building, cross-over by foot, take the Bus 170 to SG side, then Bus 96x to Admiralty MRT back home. It was "my first time" going by foot + bus from JB haha.
Collecting the car just go by the reverse, take train to Admiralty, take Bus 96x to SG causeway building -> Bus 170 > reach JB Causeway terminal. Go down, buy taxi ticket tell the fellow you going to Permas Jaya, they charge flat rate RM 19.90 voila reach the workshop, collect car back, drive back to home in SG.
I gave detail driving instructions to one other bro here, not sure if it was accurate but if you need, just PM me and i can fwd you. Best yet, use a GPS. The new highway connects JB causeway, straight to the Permas Jaya JUSCO, which is just few lights from Francis workshop, so it's really easy to get there even for a JB newbie.
Hope the above helps

Okie....
A qn to all bros who brought their cars to Francis to do an overhaul, how did you guys sort out the logistics ? I mean Permas is quite a distance & an overhaul takes a couple of days...
Mine... the problem started after I replaced all the oil seals in SG, now my tranny also seems to need solenoid replacement.
Sianz.
Moral of story, buying a low mileage car doesnt mean anything. It is the engine hours that matters
