E90 - problem again

Re: E90 - problem again

Wow those sparks looks fully utilized.

If water pump uplorry coolant will boil over. Sometimes hoses will give way and it will leak. If worried, plug a computer to read out temp. There are cheap portable OBD2 computers on eBay.

Re: E90 - problem again

One example is this:
ELM327 OBDII OBD2 Can Bus V1 5 Bluetooth Auto Car Diagnostic Interface Scanner | eBay

Leave it plugged in, and connect to it via Bluetooth. If I am not wrong iPhone has apps that can hook up to this, and you can read the temps. Look out for the ELM327 protocol support. That's what you need.

Update: Not sure if iPhone works w/Bluetooth (I know Android does) but I found this app called Engine Link, costs S$6.98. The description says it would work with ELM327 OBD devices over Wifi.

If you want the traditional USB->OBD2 cable, I can sell mine for $10 (need to plug to laptop to see) then I will go and buy the wireless ones to try.

Pls thank me for my useful post.

problem solved - replace 4 x ignition coils & 4 spark plugs
mileage 80k

1st. valvetronic up lorry
2nd. ignition coil up lorry

based on trend, next item up lorry would be water pump
workshop advise me to watch out for overheating
but e90 has no temp gauge ... if water pump up lorry and on the road would be jialat :(
When did you last change your water pump? If it is 50k km already, juz change it lah. That's my personal experience.

Re: E90 - problem again

80k mileage with original water pump ... not change yet
probably change the water pump in next servicing at 90k :D

i don't know ... i pray and pray hope the gearbox can last until 100k-120k
if gearbox chui ... i will bite the bullet and change car ... :(

standard wear and tear items like valvetronic, ignition coil, water pump, fuel pump, oil gaskets, etc -- i'm ok to change

My E60 gearbox lasted till 170k km and i changed it when i thought it was about time , not when it died
So ..... bmw gearbox may not be so fragile after all

But changing a gear box valvebody and solenoid is about $3-$4k. Changing a new 3series now is $200-$300k. I think change car due to gearbox failure is more as a excuse due to back side itchy. :shakemyb:

Re: E90 - problem again

haha ... backside itchy is very expensive indeed ...

waiting for pengful update ... after gearbox overhaul cannot travel >120 kmph

My GB valvebody and solenoid was changed at 111k mileage, after changed now mileage is 142k, gear change is still very smooth. No jerking.
Will do a ATF flush when reach 150k.
