Hi thanks more for members here as I try and post pics and places to buy.

Steering Wheel was about 1.3k++

Hi guys, do any of you know the cost of ECU in 520?
Happened seconds after I started my car, drove for 5 meters and it suddenly shut down, throw drivetrain error and tyre pressure error. These two faults.
Thanks in advance!

So the other day left the house got on the highway and put the foot down on the throttle and there was little to no response and a shudder went through the car and bing !

Check engine light comes on, pull to the side shut the car down and started it up again and the car was still shuddering like crazy. Limped the car home and grabbed the laptop with the diagnostic software to scan the car.

Scan shows misfire cylinder 2, spark plugs were changed not to long ago so couldn't be the issue there suspect coil packs as those have never been changed by me so far.

Plan to confirm coil failure is simple and as follows

1. Remove Coil pack 1 AND 2 and swap them around,
2. Clear the DTC Codes start up the car then see if the misfire code changes from number 2 to 1.
3. Call Eng Soon up and was quoted $149 for a set of 4 and they DELIVER to my house !
4. Replace and go !

1. Pull up and off the plastic beauty cover and locate Cylinder 1 Coil Pack

20211020_095857.jpg

Pull number 1 coil pack by moving the clip upwards the electrical connection will come off then using the clip pull the entire coil upwards.

Now do the same for Cylinder 2 Coil Pack

20211019_165027.jpg

Swap around the coil packs clear the codes and rescan the car once again !

20211020_095819.jpg

Tada ! Check engine code comes on and error now shows misfire cylinder 1 evident of coil pack failure.

1 Quick call to Eng Soon and $149 outta my credit card they were nice enough to deliver to my place !

Simply swap out the old coil packs replace with the nice shiny new ones and once again its good to go.

So lessons learnt.

1. Any fault codes , DO NOT PANICK in most cases, pull to the side of the road SAFELY, shut down the car for 30secs or so and restart and see if it goes away.

2. Check if car is still drivable the fault code WILL tell you drive slowly or DO NOT drive, listen to it !

3. If the car moves, limp it home if you're close enough or to a nearby carpark if you're too far.

4. Scan tool is important if you're holding an aging BMW get a good one, bimmerlink is a good app and works with both apple and android.

5. eNet cable its cheap just buy it , USD $9.12 get the adapter for your phone and off you go.

6. All else fails and need help ? Have your trusted workshop contact handy, I have META on speed dial they've never failed me and are ready to help.

7. Stockist like Eng Soon are really good in terms of response and prices, DON'T feel the need to buy Genuine BMW parts as OEMs will do. In this case the replacement coils were manufactured by delphi.

Remember BMW makes cars NOT individual parts, they pay other manufacturers to make the part, stamp the BMW logo on it and charge you 100% or more markup.

Latest failure as expected from an engine bay full of plastics. If you see BROWN plastics in your engine bay that means its degraded and turning brittle ! Engines are expensive hoses and radiators are cheap in comparison save your engine from overheating by a burst hose !

1. Radiator end tanks all turning BROWN.
2. Top hose joining plastics all degrading and cracked can see coolant dried up.
3. Plastics connecting engine block to coolant hoses all turning BROWN.

Basically Radiator , hose 1, 6, 8 and theromostat

It would be good if you can put the pics of BEFORE and AFTER, when you are done.
I looked at your engine bay and hoses and think that they are all normal!!!!! WAH!
Glad to know that Michael is still around, great guy!

Great work RSSID!!

Ask and ye shall receive, back to META to put everything together.

1st Step old Radiator comes out

IMG-20211207-WA0011.jpg

New one checked to see if everything matched up, lower one is new upper is old.

IMG-20211207-WA0019.jpg

A group shot of old stuff coming out vs new stuff going in. Note the bits of round plastics are basically all the brittle plastics that break off in the process of aging.
