How many of you thinking of switching to Mercedes

Actually if Merc can make a car that handles/drive as good as a BMW (model for model), then BMW will kaput. On the other hand if BMW can make a car that is as luxurious/comfortable as a Merc, then Merc will kaput.

Its been like that all these years, model after model.

Don't think so, people will still pay for the brand.

Re: How many of you thinking of switching to Mercedes

here's another way to look at it.

Once I happen to hear Carlos Ghosn gave a talk. He said a car purchase is (generally) made 50% with the head and 50% with the heart. The day Merc builds a car tt drives as well as a bmw, the head will say Merc but the heart will say BMW. The heart usually wins! BMW forever!!! haha..

Re: How many of you thinking of switching to Mercedes

Do you guys think as a brand Merc still greater than BMW?

inclination for most ppl is still that way. though the gap is extremely narrow now. no1 can discount the fact that merc is a good car. can bitch about the handling all you want but its still a brand to be reckon with.

Re: How many of you thinking of switching to Mercedes

Went to C&C to test drive the E250 Coupe last weekend.
Thought it looks very sexy, with the long roof line and big rear windows.
It also has the nicest interior among all the coupes - like Prada bag material.

But I'm really disappointed with the drive cos

- very noisy engine at higher rev - probably thats how it sounds when you have stress an undersized 4 potter that is turbocharged
- and a very sluggish gear change from an ancient 5 speed gearbox

Worst still, the price tag is the highest 210+K with a very low OMV.

Or maybe I'm biased, anyone else test drove?

The 2.0T A5 drives better, with a much better throttle response and quicker gear change.

The gap between the average age of buyers of Mercs and BMWs used to be more than 10 years. Wonder what it is now, with Merc consciously striving to appeal to a younger audience.

Hey I am old and on a bimmer. I tell you age has nothing to do with choice, it's $$$$ and snob appeal. Bimmers are snobs. :)

Re: How many of you thinking of switching to Mercedes

those who buy merc, all went for base models. C180, E200
not many C350 or E350 on the road.

OK, means the salesperson bluff us.. hehe.. We haven't taken a test drive, though.. so, dunno how true the performance is.. yes, quality is up there, but i believe my dad is more towards driving performance.. But i saw one ex-YAM5er owner around my neighbourhood just switched to the new E250, recognised it by the plate S*T4444*.. That also made us give the E-class another look..

Re: How many of you thinking of switching to Mercedes

i had ths dilemma when deciding between a C63 & the M3. After surfing tons of M3 vs XX at m3post MBworld, there was no obvious winner. I personally felt that the M3 looked better so that was my main decision. I didnt care for modding potential as both have crazy kits for boosting power up to 500bhp etc.

Another factor for me was the EDC which was perfect as a GT/track/commuting machine. The C63 doesnt have such flexible system & its super bolstered bucket seats arent that comfortable for long GT trips IMO.

Re: How many of you thinking of switching to Mercedes

Recently I had a chance to try a friends CL600! This car will blow your mind away...it was just amazing. Of course in singapore this would cost a bomb. I dont know if C&C will have one for test dirve :)

Re: How many of you thinking of switching to Mercedes

i am not a fan of Mercedes, just not my style until i am 60

Re: How many of you thinking of switching to Mercedes

Sorry if I did offend but i don't mean it ... Merc to me are for uncles while BMWs are for more stylish people... only my personal opinion. :slaphead:
