Singapore Ministers

Re: Singapore Ministers

why compare coke?

in Switzerland, a Macdonald's Big Mac Meal is CF19 (happy hour price from 2pm to 5pm, all other timing CF24) vs Singapore's $6.80 excl upsize. We have long overnight queues for Hello Kitty dolls where people throw away the burger meals and then go online to flip the dolls for 1000 times more.

CCB GOVT!!

But if the median income is $8000 vs a can coke costing $2 but median income is $3500 in sg. The dude in Swiss is still better off.

Swiss median income, post tax = CHF 5467.80 = SGD 7452.61

Cost of Living in Switzerland. Prices in Switzerland.

Singapore's median income, pre tax = SGD 7570

Add in employers' CPF contributions, less out taxes and own CPF contributions, are we as low as $3500?

I respect LKY for many things. I dislike him for some. but I will remember how he broke the unions back when he fuck the pilots strike in 1980 n 2003.

in Europe...welfare and unions ruled and still do to a certain extent. plenty money bleeds in there 2 areas. we don't get that here largely due to the work hard mentality and zero tolerance for strikes. this is something we take for granted. so much so that we whine when trains get delayed for 30 mins. we never understand what it feels like to be stranded at airports for days...

Yes it's lower than $3500. It's $2127 per month . That's how much the median income is.

U are looking at household income. That's combine of whoever is in the house. Look at income per housework member.

with no offense to anyone here....

I'm hypothesizing here, but perhaps not too far from the truth....
the poor lady was probably kicked out of her own family home and has to fend for herself. do I feel sorry for her? yes... certainly. but does it mean its an opportunity to bash the government?

she probably worked all her life, put her kids through school and uni, then when she got old, got kicked out cos the 'son in law / daughter in law' felt she was an economic burden on the family?

else, she is a spinster / widow with no kids, no family to support her economically now.

just cause we see the occasional homeless old folks in the streets doesn't mean we get to bash the government.

if the government gave out 'free money' to the elder folks, paid for by the younger generation in high taxes, will you be keen to live in such a country?

Probem is we can all tell her "kids" in question are Singaporeans but others will insist it's foreigners...

Even at $2127 per pax, can of coke at $1-1.20, versus CHF 5467.80 vs CHF 4.00, or compare a carton of eggs at S$2 versus CHF 6.00, no brainer which country is more expensive.

Of course, these are single dimensional parameters as with our discussion on what is supposed to be implicitly provided by a government.....

Re: Singapore Ministers

Sure. Use can go coke or eggs or Big Mac to gauge which city is more expensive .

Why not u google again. Since u like to back up your words with other people works .

That was not my point.

I have no clue on your basis that you are complaining about the level of ministers' pay using low median income, or the contribution of a national service man as a yardstick.

You reckoned that you are in the median income bracket, earning only $2127 per month so you could build your arsenal of verbal bullets against the "inequality?" Or that you are driving a BMW but still unhappy that you are paid way below the ministers and that you are probably not willing to be taxed like an American to help the poor auntie?

For the third time, what do you expect the government to do to

(1) help your daughter secure her future at all costs ;
(2) provide every aspects of what a citizen should deserve - example security, for free or at a low cost ;
(3) restrict all forms of foreign workers and turn "organic" in the labour market ;
(4) restrict immigration influx and yet combat a trend of declining population ;
(5) eradicate poverty or signs of poverty ; and
(6) have policies to help the median income bracket ?

All these to be managed by a cabinet of ministers and MPs who should only be compensated reasonably.....

Your solution?

Re: Singapore Ministers

Lemme sum up your thoughts.

"I worked so hard to buy my BMW. Those ministers worked little "in air con room, draw million $$, exclude board of director fees, hv ridiculous pension plan for life" and I have to try so hard to change to a Porsche. The case of the NS men? I used it to show contrast."

"I want the government to help secure my daughter's future. I don't think any government can, but I will use this to hoot their incompetence not matter how unreasonable I sound."

"I expect government to provide every basic living aspect to a deserving citizen - security, police to find a lost mobile phone for me, punctual MRT, clean toilet, cheap hawker food and free Hello Kitty for all at Macs or I will soot them during election."

"I expect government to restrict all forms of foreign workers and turn "organic" in the labour market. Find someone to replace the ang mor management of these foreign banks, no matter how unreasonable it sounds. Force their IT department to hire our graduates and not some dual-masters IT engineers from Mumbai and at higher price !!! Wait, fire Malaysian mechanics like David and chase them back to Malaysia. Hire our own mechanics."

"I want my government to restrict immigration influx and yet combat a trend of declining population. I don't know how. Perhaps give away free condoms and make them breed like puppies."

"I want my government to totally eradicate poverty or signs of poverty. That auntie should not be seen. Or perhaps live on social welfare. And no, the government better not tax me to give her $$$. They find their own ways to pay her."

"I want the government to tax the rich progressively and give to the median income bracket as rebates. Eh, current scheme is progressive? No, not progressive enough. Let's tax the rich heavily. But change the rules when I am rich."

"I want the government to work for passion, not pay. Passion for the people rules."

proverbial 'wants his cake and eat it too'.... just dun wanna pay for it and expect others to do the baking, cutting, serving and eventually cleaning up after.....

Re: Singapore Ministers

Personally I don't think there is anything wrong in paying high salaries, however I think there must be accountability for failures, mistakes etc. Some of these ministers are guys who can easily earn more than what they are earning as ministers. Plus being the political limelight is not a thankful task. The older generation of leaders were respected and feared. Now I read people posting abusive post on facebook of some ministers.
