No, you are incorrect there.
Various polls have ALREADY been conducted in the US and Lexus has always come up tops re brand impact. ESPECIALLY in USWC (west coast) polls.
And that same result has been repeated over a few years already. Lexus number 1, for the Americans, by the Americans.
Go search / read US survey results before you make sweeping statements like this.
And where is BMW in the US list? Its some way down the line.
Can't recall if Merc was higher on the list though.
And that's brand image only.
Reliability polls constantly put Lexus in the top 3. And this applies not only in USA, but also in the UK and continental-Europe surverys too.

Well I can also tell u from speaking to British, a lot of people there in UK prefer to buy the SABARU impreza WRX bcos it has a turbo engine over a Ferrari. U know why? Its not bcos they dont like Ferraris, who dont like one right? SUBARUs sell better bcos it is a lot cheaper. I think SUBARUs rank very high in the UK just like the USA is for LEXUS, but I dont hav the statistics though. Now similarly BMWs are more expensive than LEXUS in USA u know.

Based on how you write, I don't think you have even driven the Mark X. Am not even sure if you had really test driven the IS250. Still, you have attempted to make comparisons based on your own perceptions. It tells a lot on what kind of character you are.
The 2 cars are so different, from the handling, NVH, suspensions, ride, chassis, shape, design, interior and overall feel - the engine is the only thing common.
Pls stop making sweeping statements when you don't have the facts. Otherwise, please do a test drive on your own, before making comparison statements like that.

I usually take these polls with a pinch of salt.... cos if I am not wrong, you might be referring to the JD Power surveys and I admit that Lexus have come out tops in reliability.
But then Lexus just don't have that brand impact and loyalty by its users/drivers. Since most people buy such cars for point A-B transportation. Why do I say that? Look at the number of BMW forums compared to Lexus forums, BMWs just attract (good marketing strategy I must say). A Lexus is just so easily forgotten (maybe it is too reliable...).
A car like a Merc or BMW evokes passion and other stuff which makes buyers irrational. And perhaps the lack of reliability even makes it more 'emotional'
Actually comparing a Lexus to BMW is just like comparing Creative MP3 players to Apple iPods
