Can somebody enlighten my narrow mind?

The taxi driver dont deserve to die.. i agree.. he leave behind 3 schooling children.. i agree.. this is an accident which shouldnt have happened.. i agree.. life is going to be tough for them.. all these i agree..

but why is so many people donating $$ to this family when there are so so so many other people/family in singapore/overseas/3rd world country who are in much worst situation than them and being neglected by society..?? these people have no money.. no food.. no shelter.. some gone through sh!t.. some don't even have a next-of-kin..

Im not saying don't donate to taxi uncle's family.. dont get me wrong..

It's called solidarity.

After all, if we could, as a nation, find the compassion to donate 1/2 a million bucks to Huang Na who was brutally murdered, I reckon we should all the more show compassion to a fellow Singaporean who lost his life needlessly due to the recklessness of another driver.

Law

Again in the past the rule of the law was followed strictly, today we see cases where there is a difference in the way the locals are treated compared to for.

Really? Can provide some examples?

Some decisions made by the courts are really baffling but seriously, you should put yourself through law school to know some things are not that straightforward.

To be honest, I cannot stand some of these FTs myself and I work in an office where as a Singaporean, I'm the minority. But I tried to think big picture and where our ricebowls come from based on investments from outside, I took a step back and I understood the pains the policy makers have to go through. And do not forget, these are constantly being refined. We ought to behave at the level that we are all being educated at and not bash at every single given opportunity.

Like many has mentioned, this case is NOT about the nationality of the driver but a very reckless driver. They have it in every country and many SIngaporeans fall in that category as well.

Maybe i didn't express myself, what meant is that in the past we were used to following the "law" to the very last word. Now there is a difference in the way the FT talents are being treated for their indiscretions, things like unruly behavior, hitting policemen etc....I am not talking in term of court ruling etc bc i know nothing about the law...

I agree that this should not be about the nationality of the driver as i mentioned in previous post. I am trying bring across the point that with the perceived injustice, ppl will express their unhappiness and in some cases they may express it as we see in irrational suggestions. But the underlying issue is the policies at place.

I can see you believe strongly in govt, and i respect you for that. I m sure you will also appreciate the struggles ppl go through bc of their policies that leads to such emotions. Personally i have benefited from the influx of forigners , but I cannot morally justify the sufferings of my fellow human based on my personal financial benefits.

cheers

Re: Two killed, 3 injured in Rochor Road accident

thats the problem with media and all....focusing on what sells and what doesnt...
this story and topic is overplayed, overpoliticised, overblown and overdiscussed. Im not belittling the incident. all im saying there are people dying everyday in the less developed world.and here we are talking as if this is THE MAIN EVENT of our lives...
positives to take from this incident...drive safe.love your family.buy insurance if u believe. accidents are called accidents simply they are not planned to happen..so lets end this. zzzzzz

Re: Two killed, 3 injured in Rochor Road accident

There is a law for the rich and a law for the poor.......

A man steals money from his company..

1. Rich Man: He has donated immensely to charity, he contributed to society, he does voluntary work, he is active in grassroots acitvities and he committed the offence due to a moment of greed and has made full restitution. He is still an asset to society, hence please be lenient.

2. Poor man: He did it because he needed to buy medicine for his sick mother and he is jobless.

Rich man gets a fine and maybe probation.

Poor man goes to jail. So what if your mother is sick? It does not mean you can steal you low life

This, my friends, is Meritocracy

Is that really true????? real life cases u came across???

Re: Two killed, 3 injured in Rochor Road accident

you have sections of ppl using this opportunity to put down foreign talent, the rich and well-heeled who can afford supercars( why cannot buy and enjoy?),politicising, petitioning for new rules and regulations,PRCs...etc

just wonder how many of us here actually made any form of donation to the family or just ranting and ranting about FTs and how life is so unfair and harsh to them caused by PRCs...and how useless our media is........zzzzzzzzzzz

Just a thought...i did not donate anything btw...but ya..just trying to put things into perspective..

Re: Two killed, 3 injured in Rochor Road accident

someone at HWZ est. calculated:
www.hardwarezone.com.sg - View Single Post - [GPGT, GVGT] Fatal accident involving Ferrari vehicle at junction of Victoria Street and Rochor Road

haiz.. video analysis

re-encoded video to mpeg1 @30 fps, so 1 frame is 0.033 second. but still need to correlate to video cam clock.

this is the last frame before ferrari appears. take note of the building pillar at the extreme left of video. that'll be our start distance marker. also, cam clock shows 9:20, while video time is 20.133 sec.

next frame at 20.167 sec. ferrari just enters the video, and appears to be in line with 2nd pillar from the left of the (kfc) building. but because the lens is fisheye, there is some distortion to the perspective captured (i.e. car should be behind 2nd pillar). hence, i can only estimate that the ferrari is somewhere in between the 2 pillars between frames 604 and 605 (again necessary to estimate distance/time). cam clock still shows 9:20.

next frame at 20.200 second. ferrari clearly in view. cam clock just turned 9:21.

moment ferrari touches cab. cab is just starting to shift right due to impact. take note of position of the taxi's bonnet in the 4th lane, that'll be the end marker. video time is 20.467 sec, only ~0.33 seconds from the beginning just before the ferrari enters the footage. but it's not real time.

at 21.200 sec, cam clock turns 9:22. so at least for this segment of footage, video time and cam clock pretty much runs in sync. (read above, cam clock at 9:21 was 20.200 sec). hence, the ferrari covered the distance from the 1st-2nd pillar of the (kfc) building to the 4th lane of junction in ~0.33 sec ± 0.1 sec. Still a large probability of error due to limitation of video recorded and software.

so how long was the distance?

ironically, the orange top cab was at the rough position where the ferrari hits. calculating using google map (crossing locations are off in google map due to construction works then) and perspective estimation, the distance covered in 0.33 seconds is around 25-30 metres.

which calculates out to, at slowest, (25/0.43 x 3.6) = 209 km/h

Re: Two killed, 3 injured in Rochor Road accident

Yes.... a lot of the ppl are using that he's a FT or whatever.........
But personally....i dun care if he's a FT, rich, yandao or not... who cares.... (unless he's my client or advisor that let me make millions of dollars yearly)..

I've seen the video.... and frankly speaking.. it's quite scary to watch it........ look at the way the 599 speeding......... :(

May it that the driver is a FT, rich, talented etc...... that's not the way to drive on the normal road in Singapore.... There are supercar owners in this forum.... i dun see them driving in this way...

No names mentioned.... i nvr say toto, omar and ryan are supercar owners.... :nehnehhh:

Moral of the story is to commit crime whe one is "Rich Man: He has donated immensely to charity, he contributed to society, he does voluntary work, he is active in grassroots acitvities"?
