Unbiased write-up on the SMRT cock-ups

Re: Unbiased write-up on the SMRT cock-ups

Bro Wt_know, 上梁不正下梁歪 mah... When Mas Selamat escaped, did Mini$tar accept responsibility? When Temasek betted wrongly and blew a deficit in its reserves the size of a black hole, was Santa Claus Ho Ho Ho Jingle all the way accountable? When Youth Olympics budget ballooned from $100M to $300M, was anyone held responsible? So, what do you expect SMRT CEO to do? Must follow example mah. Die die stay until a better position can be found to house her fat ass, then go & leave the mess for someone else to carry.

BEST!

Re: Unbiased write-up on the SMRT cock-ups

The person who hired SAW to be CEO need to have his head examined and then fired too.. You dont hire a pure marketing person to run a major rail transport company.....Dont know what he sees in her.....I bet she look ugly even 10 years younger......Can I offer myself to be the CEO of SMRT..I bet I will perform better than her even after spending 50% of my time surfing BMWSG and other forums..

Saw is definitely connected to some garment officials la. Hence untouchable. Cannot fire garment officials right? They must request to leave themselves 'to pursue other opportunities' mah... yeah so who is Saw connected to huh?

'SMRT clueless in this new media age'

COMMENT

It really beggars belief.

If the photo above is any indication, it’s no wonder SMRT is so totally clueless about communications in this new media age.

How can its recently launched Twitter channel describe itself as operating only during office working hours, “9am to 6pm, Mon – Fri (except public holidays)”?

Dear me. Weekend, then how? Public holiday – even worse.

Template or otherwise, it's not the first time this week the good people at SMRT have shown how woefully unprepared they are to face a new generation of commuters who demand and deserve better, and rightly so. (This is Singapore after all, isn’t it?)

Earlier this week, radio deejay Hossan Leong was "censured" for reading out a supposedly unverified tweet on air that said the Circle Line was down. Why? For apparently not waiting for an official statement from the transport operator.

Two days later, SMRT sent out the by now infamous “income opportunity” alert to their affiliated taxi company, telling its “partners” to take advantage of the commuter chaos caused by Thursday’s massive breakdown.

Blogger mrbrown even wrote on his blog that on one of the affected trains, an actual announcement on the public address said, "Due to a slight delay, there will be a delay."

One of the major fails during what has surely been the worst week of the transport operator’s history has been how slow they have been to communicate any major disruptions. The people are not asking for the cause because that understandably takes time.

People just want to find out if they can get to where they need to go in time. No ifs or buts or face-saving PR tactics -- just inform people what they need to know, preferably real-time. After all, there's no point hiding now because there is no place to hide.

Hopefully this lesson hasn't been lost on other government agencies out there that have often been criticised for “not getting it”.

(Updated) A full public inquiry has now been convened, says PM Lee, to determine the root cause of the breakdowns. A separate panel of experts will also do a "thorough check" on the healthiness of the rail network.

Hopefully, maybe either one of the two will be able to tell the people what SMRT so far hasn't been able to -- just what the hell has been going on.

(Updated Sunday 728pm) SMRT have updated their Twitter channel. Its profile description now simply says "The official Twitter channel of SMRT".

Trains on N-S line slow, stalling - Yahoo!

Seems like it was stop-start this morning as well? Everyone is riding the MRT with trepidation. It is like playing roulette when it might fail or delay. It shouldn't be like this. This is a rail system - it is meant to be fast, efficient and punctual. I'm very bemused but concerned at the same time. What if some elderly had a heart attack or breathing problem during that 78 minutes of unassisted wait in the black-out trains? No phone network signal to call for emergency services, no contact with the outside world, inaccessible to the rescue services on time. The consequences can be very dire. I have loved ones who take the MRT. This disturbs me deeply. Can affected passengers sue the SMRT for distress caused?

I believe that Saw actually offered to resign since the climate is such that if she stays, everyone including her own internal people will buay song but I also believe PM or govt told her to stay on and solve the problem 1st and be hailed as a heroine who did things right before stepping down. Then we will see her being appointed to LTA, which I hope ERP, COE bidding system, licence number bidding, car transfer, summon portal etc will have massive outage for a month and then I will petition for her to be Transport Minister

Yes I share same view as you. Think she also not so thick skin and might have broken down behind the scenes due to all the pressure she faced during this period. But I am curious how come a PR for 40 years can be our key transport company ceo? hmmmm
