Re: advise for 520i

Dear All,

New user here, considering I cant create any new topics as of yet, this is the most relevant thread for my questions.

Im contemplating on purchasing either a 520 or audi a6 2.0t. If i do purchase a 520, would opting for dynamic dampers be a waste of money?

Contemplating on purchasing the 520 with reverse camera, comfort seats, 4zone air and comfort access and extended instrument panel.

THanks in advance.

how much for the dynamic dampers?

Re: advise for 520i

Hey there,

I've done a test drive of the 520, but not the a6. Planning on doing a drive on the A6 sometime next week, the front wheel drive and cvt transmission is whats making me apprehensive of the a6 but the interior is pretty large compared to the 520.

Im getting a quote for the dynamic dampers sometime next week.

P.S. actually purchasing in Brunei not Singapore but since we're in close proximity and Brunei's BMW dealership orders from the BMW asia HQ in Singapore, thought this be a great place to ask some questions.

A6 2.0t in brunei is close to fully loaded and insanely good value. full LED array front lights, 4zone air, reverse cam, 8" center console screen for 77.4k new. 3.0t quattro is 126k new.

520 taxi spec is 79.8k new. 528 taxi spec is 118k new.

Re: advise for 520i

taxi spec = Basic standard bare bone specifications without any options.

Believe over here basic includes xenon, PDC and normal leather seats.

Re: advise for 520i

All F10 should have Leather as standard even in Europe. ( At least in UK) Except for M sport which you can opt for half leather half cloth or alcantara.

Re: advise for 520i

Bro, a word of caution - if you indent (ie, up spec to your heart's content), and if Brunei is anything like Singapore's PML, you're looking at easily, a 5-6 month wait for your car. By that time, face lift would have come out, M8 would have been released and Najib might even have called for an election already! Oops, wrong country, hahahaha

Re: advise for 520i

Hey there wobbles,

was told about the 5-6 month wait by the AD here, just can't stand the basic spec 5 series, esp if im putting down 1 years salary on a vehicle. For some strange reason, all the interiors that are in the BMW brunei dealer lot have just black interior with black plastic trim. Woulda thought there would be at least some variation like oyster-black or cinnamon with wood trims.

Makes me kinda cringe that almost every bmw 5 is a clone of one another save for colour and cant get over the fact that theres no reverse camera where as in the a6 and eclasses they come standard here. Heck, even a toyota camry has a reverse camera as standard and it only costs 2/3 the price.

You think i should just wait for a facelift for the 5 or eclass? or am i just better off getting a customised a6 since it just got released here and unlikely to have a facelift for another few years?

Re: advise for 520i

The F10 unlikely to have Facelift model soon, Usually in the mid cycle which will be next year? E class facelift is alraedy out and should be hitting our shore soon.
A6 Looks good,

Btw, F10 in brunei comes with 7 inch Monitor or 10.2?

Re: advise for 520i

f10 comes with 7" monitor. Need to fork out extra for the 10.2"

price of the 535 is disproportionate here 160k. For that price you can get a 730Li and have 20k to spare.

E-class facelift - are you referring to the one that no longer has the quad front lights and has the integrated 2 front lighting system in the spy pics at the german car forum?
Mercedes W212 E-Class Facelift: Renders, Spyshots, Etc - Page 8
======================================
Some details about the upcoming car. Looks like LED headlights will in fact replace the Xenons.

On the way out are the Mercedes E-class's pontoon-style rear side panels, the quad headlamps and the ritzy daytime running lights. Instead, the revised 2013 E-class features a brand-new front end, restyled rear side panels, and a heavily modified rear view.

It's hard to believe, but the only exterior elements the 2013 model is going to carry over from the current vintage are the roof, the front doors and the windows. Everything else is new, fresh, contempory, less contrived and more coherent.

Mercedes facelifts the E-class - ahead of a range overhaul

Although Mercedes won't start the Real Design Revolution before 2014 when the next C-class and brand-new S-class coupé are due to see the light, the facelifted E-class is notably more elegant and less in-your-face that the version it replaces.

The saloon goes on sale in spring 2013, the estate follows in summer 2013, while the AMG and 4Matic editions wrap things up that autumn. Also coming are three different hybrid versions.

The C-class is selling in bigger numbers and the S-class is earning bigger profits, but no other Mercedes is positioned closer to the core of the brand than the E-class. The extensive reskin eliminates most of the overly decorative styling cues while taking on board such new items as single-piece multi-functional headlamp units as well as a small army of cameras, lenses and sensors that feed the more advanced driver assistance systems.

The driver gadgets coming on the 2013 Mercedes E-class facelift

There's an awful lot coming:

• Improved night assistant Not only draws the attention to cyclists and pedestrians but also warns of crossing wild animals
• Dynamic light assistant No longer uses adaptive bi-xenon technology but relies on fast moving multi-directional LED pixels which automatically avoid oncoming traffic
• Intelligent lane assistant Not only monitor own lane but also supervises oncoming traffic and will issue an early collision warning
• Intelligent brake assistant Derived from Distronic III, this radar-based cruise control keeps an eye on the vehicle in front and - as a world first - on cross traffic
• Congestion assistant Automatically follows the vehicle in front at speeds of up to 40mph even if the route involves direction and lane changes
• Magic ride control Employs a stereo camera which scans the road surface and makes the black box adjust damper action accordingly
• Head-up display Extended functions, state-of-the-art graphics, multi-colour imaging
• Car-to-X-communication Recognises police/ambulance/fire brigade vehicles, relays car-to-car messages like black ice or aquaplaning warning, permits partially autonomous driving though brief steering, brake and acceleration inputs

Yep, that's right. There's no excuse to crash the E-class now.

Engines on board the facelifted E-class

Mercedes still has no answer to the high-performance diesels offered by Audi (313bhp) and BMW (381bhp). Since a significant boost in power output would require a brand-new derv-drinking V6 which is at this point not funded, even the all-new next E-class out in 2015 will be wanting in this department.

In Europe, the only V8 which survives in the E-class is the 537bhp 5.5-litre kraftwerk reserved for the E63 AMG. The E500 becomes an export-only model which sheds the ageing 408bhp unit in favour of a turbocharged 4.6-litre motor good for 435bhp and 516lb ft.

The modified E200 will be equipped with a 156bhp 1.6-litre four built by Renault - of course to MB specification. Another new addition to the range is the E350 which gains extra grunt from its 333bhp 3.5-litre V6.

The only change on the diesel front concerns the demise of the 300 CDI. In terms of alternative drivetrains, there is a 27bhp mild hybrid in the works which will be followed by a 68bhp plug-in edition in 2014 and by an even brawnier 109bhp top-of-the-line planet saver twelve months later (all bhp numbers relate to the electric motor).

One more thing: the 252bhp engine earmarked for the E300 may at the eleventh hour switch from the familiar 3.0-litre V6 to a new turbocharged 2.0-litre four. Seems like the BMW 328i has given the competition some food for thought.

Re: advise for 520i

Bro, reading what you wrote about Audi & Merc in Brunei, seems that those cars are giving you a better bang for your hard earned Bruneian dollars :) - might not be a bad idea to consider those options seriously - because the cars are seriously good alternatives to BMW

Re: advise for 520i

Heya, yeah im seriously considering the audi as well, but need to test drive it and waiting for options quote from BMW.

Just worried about the audi maintenance and servicing here, they have a very bad reputation where as the BMW AD seems pretty decent. Also bmw 3 year parts and labour warranty v 2 years for audi, another thing to consider.

That and the Audi's side and rear view just looks incredibly bland, whilst the front looks like every other audi sedan. BMW 5 exterior looks sweet, esp with the m sports kit.

Price disparity is a consideration on what car I buy as well. Since this is my first vehicle purchase, don't want the car to be one of those first car nightmares. Currently driving a 1988 toyota corona gifted to me by my gramps. Was a former construction work site car, rusty all over and starting to croak.

Re: advise for 520i

the multitronic or CVT in the audi is the weakest link.. once u have driven the car u will know what i mean

if u are going for audi.. it definitely needs to be quattro..

Re: advise for 520i

Audi - same sausage, different lengths. Bro, you are not wrong about the side profiles of the Audis!

Of course, with the way BMW is headed, everything is starting to look like a 5.....

F10 LCI should be May/June 2014, and ending its run sometime mid 2017
