Another case of conflict between car and cyclist....

Re: Another case of conflict between car and cyclist....

I only know that if I buy conti car...

AM built it....

Chinese buy and drive it....

Re: Another case of conflict between car and cyclist....

Aiya, at the end of the day, if you don't want to make your blood pressure explode, DON'T drive: take the MRT!

Then the CAMDK-3rd-Tier Foreign Trash cyclist will not affect your mood or emotions, since you will be packed to the rafters like sardines in a can in the MRT.

Win win.

Re: Another case of conflict between car and cyclist....

Take MRT also will make your blood boil, overcrowded, people dont move in, siao lang anyhow scold people, molested, kanna molested, being accused of molest even if you are not guilty of it, people lean against pole etc etc etc...

The best dont go out of the house, work from home and play Clash of Clans.

Re: Another case of conflict between car and cyclist....

All these talks and logic are a waste of time. It's the mind set of cyclists and drivers out there. If everyday the newspaper reports a
cyclist's death after being run over by a vehicle and the driver gets jail term, in no time everyone will be practicing safe driving and riding. We are currently at the stage where cyclists and drivers are fighting over who have the rights on the road and our garment
just cant seems to put their feet down on this. It's funny tho IMO.

Re: Another case of conflict between car and cyclist....

Garhmen will only put foot down if there's money to be made. You mean after so many years, so many elections and so many times of sucking it in and taking it up where the sun don't shine, you still dunno meh?

Re: Another case of conflict between car and cyclist....

Actually hoh, a thought suddenly come to mind.

Before I got my driving licence, when I ride on the road, I will guai guai use the pedestrian crossing instead of following the cars to do a right turn (e.g. in the right turn lane).

Nowadays, many cyclists (not all, just some) will ride on the road and follow the rules applicable to a car. Is it because these cyclists are also a driver? Just a random thought.....

Re: Another case of conflict between car and cyclist....

No leh, a cyclist is a rider, not a driver.

Just like how Kennaconda is a lover, not a high-class-male-escort-service-provider.

This is a never ending debate. Ppl who don't cycle will not understand cyclist perspective no matter how much explanation made. The best solution, get a bike & go on the road. Period.

Too presumptuous that opinions are formed with no bike experience. I have cycled on the local roads before, both on bicycles and motorbike. I felt that bicycle riders do not need much reasonings to self-justify - roads are congested, lanes are narrow, and drivers could be from our neighbouring country in a huge fruit-laden lorry or an SBS bus. It will be fruitless to win an argument as a rider and risk your life trying to make a stubborn stand. Between a car and a bicycle, we know too well the survival rate from any accident.

For a right turn, that is more than 2 lanes with heavy traffic, i will stop at the traffic light & wait for the red light. Once turn red, i will move to the left most of the right turning lane. I will position in the middle of the lane right after the white line. Otherwise, i will turn right as if i am driving.

Even with that move, on the left side of the turning lanes, it can be dangerous. Look at 1:33 - 1:34

Not exactly lah. It is useful to map the thought process of risk assessment from both camps. Beats comparing fuel consumption or checking which workshop is the cheapest.

Re: Another case of conflict between car and cyclist....

das huai mai tu liao!

1) Get all Bicycles registered with LTA. RF, ARF, ED, COE, GST applies!!
2) Get all Cyclists licensed, licensing fee, GST applies!!

Since road is congested & lanes are narrow, shouldn't cycling is encourage?

SBS & SMRT bus drivers has improved for past 2 years.

The only trouble maker are private bus & lorry drivers. These drivers can be avoided with proper route selection.

Not if cyclist wait in the middle of the lane. Driver has to wait for cyclist to complete the turn before overtaking. It will inconvenience driver for 1 - 2 mins.

Re: Another case of conflict between car and cyclist....

Ok after 12 pages n various views n laws raised n highlighted anti or pro cyclists n car drivers, I m just curious....if this happened to u, would u alight from the car at the end n hoot the ang moh? I know Kenntona would. He's not an internet hero.

I will curse inside my car n then come to forum to complain or post in FB to curse his family ancestors 18 generations. Ultimate yaM5 internet warrior....

Re: Another case of conflict between car and cyclist....

I seriously don't know what I'll do. Most lkely I'll be asking for your help a couple of days later.

Re: Another case of conflict between car and cyclist....

After being in the forum for awhile, I noticed some of you guys are chummy with one another but in this topic there are some tensions due to different viewpoints. I hope your friendships are not affected by this topic.

All the different viewpoints or dare I say arguments for the last 11pages or so is simply due to a matter of perception. Like some replies, everyone is arguing or stating their standpoints and bring out traffic rules, right of way and other theories. All these are just theories but on the road, our behavior is based on traffic conditions, be it a biker, cyclist or driver. One very simple word that many do not admit, EGO. When I am driving, if someone crosses the road slowly and I perceive the fella to be purposely walking slowly, I will buey song, or sometimes horn the bugger. When I am crossing the road, if I perceive the driver to be impatient or even horn me, I will purposely walk slower, stare or challenge the driver.

This is a problem, a problem that I acknowledge. My ego problem. If I cycle, someone horns me, I also sure buey song, what will I do, I do not know but surely will chut pattern also. So I have learnt over the years to be polite and patient. Even if you want to cut across 4 lanes in a traffic jam where most people generally do not give way, you wind down your window, gesture, someone will give way and smile at you. Smile back, give your thanks and be on your way feeling happy.

It applies to all forms of transport be it, car, bike, bicycle or whatsoever. Theory is just what it is, theory. We cannot always base on theory and act it out accordingly. As for my previous post of licensing and having registration plates, it adds that element of personal accountability so one can be traced and penalized should there be a need. It does not need to have high costs and licensing is limited to just cyclists that are cycling on roads and not park connectors nor at parks. As to the video posted in this thread, don't let what happened to others affect your friendships and camaraderie here or in your personal lives. Everyone is entitled to your own viewpoint but don't let it affect your friendships simply because of different viewpoints as what I have noticed.

Its a friday, so chill and have a great weekend everyone!

I truly appreciate your thoughts on this. u r right on ur observations on the friendships in this forum. rest assured the few of us arguing rarely get personal. some of us r very strong characters indeed.

coming back to the topic....I agree as well on the EGOS of being car owners as well as perceived threat of being bullied always as a cyclist. I hv no solution to it at all. if im on the bike. obviously, my own safety is in my own hands. I will hv to bear the consequences. im fully aware of that. but I will always ride thinking im a slow vehicle. nothing will change that.

Piss off la, can lend me money or not?

Re: Another case of conflict between car and cyclist....

After being married for, erm, fcuking eternity, I have no ego left in me. No pride. Nothing.

I promise to cycle out of the way fast fast.

Re: Another case of conflict between car and cyclist....

Late comer to this thread.

Here's my 2 cents contribution:

Firstly, our traffic rule clearly states that cyclists are to stay on the left hand side of the road unless overtaking. So that means they have no business taking up an entire lane with the excuse that it's defensive cycling. This habit of riding was introduced by the ang mohs here. I used to cycle a lot in my youth and I don't recall anyone cycling on the road and taking up an entire lane or riding next to each other so as to force drivers to use the next lane.

Secondly, and more importantly, I would have entertained that CCB ang moh cyclist and got out of my car and beat the crap out of him and then throw his bike to an on-coming bus or lorry.

Where is your constituency? I'll vote for you in 2016!!!!
