Yes bro! Finally did the valve seals change.... Was trying to hold out for as long as I could. Hahahah... Anyway, I had my engine cleaned up a little the last round when I changed my valvetronic motor. So now swee swee - no need to clean. Also, I've switched to using Penzzoil Ultra. It's supposed to have some good cleaning ability.

Hi bro LKM, regarding the valvetronic motor change, do you need to change the lifters as well? Can you pm me the contacts and cost? Thanks a lot.

May I know why engine oil will have to top up so frequently. Is it due to oil leak? Common problem?

Re: Case of My E90 (320i) Disappearing Oil - 1 liter every 2000++km!!

due to spore sibei hot weather + engine sibei hot = oil dissapate

new engine = no problem
after 100k mileage, problem arise
then do top overhaul or change gasket, seal, etc

Wow...I think I have the most serious problem here!
Just serviced my car 3weeks ago and I have top up 2L of engine oil. My WS advised that I should monitor the situation before taking the next action (recommended some valve change thingy).

Previously, I could see engine oil leak on the floor and had the gasket change at PML during warranty. Problem solved and I could do 12K without any engine top up.

This might be a new set of problem here as the engine oil really 'disappeared' at super fast rate!!! I am worried about the damage. Car is 3.5yrs.

Last time my e46 has to top up 1L per 1000km. But I deduced that after every 8000km, I would have top up 8 times and hence the oil inside should be pretty new, so no need to go for oil servicing :chinese:

I faced the same problem too on my previous E90 325i. I noticed feel that if you SPEED your car, the engine oil consume more than your normal driving pattern.
Until today i am not sure why this happen. I am guessing, this could be SHELL oil is thinner (used by PML) whereas racing oil CASTROL should be able to withstand the engine heat (GUESS ONLY).
Any engine oil specialist here?

Well, mileage is just a rough indicator (although a very good one).... The closer gauge is actually the number of cycles your engine cylinders go through that lead to the amount of oil "consumed" - assuming no external leak. It's the high RPM that lead to "greater oil consumption" - not the speed. So, say, if you keep your gear to just first gear - you may be crawling (in terms of speed), but the oil consumption is gonna shoot through the roof...

The "oil consumption" in the E90 is typically caused by leaky valve seals. Thinner oils do get "consumed" faster as they tend to get into the in-betweens of the leaky seals easier.

Hi Guys. my ride 08' E90 325 (23000km). Just serviced my car 1mth ago at PML. . Now Engine Oil at 3/4 full according to the digital gauge. remembered it was not really to the max after the servicing anyway.. Any idea how much oil to top up when it is 3/4? Are there any way to physically check the oil with a dip stick cos I cant find any? :huhhuh:

Re: Case of My E90 (320i) Disappearing Oil - 1 liter every 2000++km!!

E90 don't have dipstick, only the digital oil gauge via BC stalk.
It's not exact depending on your oil sensor condition, so better not to anyhow top up, as overfill could have opposite effect
Can wait till the car ask you to top up 1L, which is empty level on the gauge

Spot on canuck78. And that normally require only 1 litre when warning come on.

Re: Case of My E90 (320i) Disappearing Oil - 1 liter every 2000++km!!

I heard from my friend saying just change to a thicker engine oil and it wont be a problem. Is it true? Was saying what different climate in Europe.

That's what a car dealer would do to temporarily fix a disappearing EO issue or oil pressure pump issue as well ......

Re: Case of My E90 (320i) Disappearing Oil - 1 liter every 2000++km!!

My 'engine oil disappearing act' has been resolved.
WS replaced the faulty sensor and returned me the extra 3L of engine oil that I have topped up everytime the 'Low engine oil' alarm came on.

Damage: SGD265

Re: Case of My E90 (320i) Disappearing Oil - 1 liter every 2000++km!!

When engine mileage is up, better to change to thicker oil like 5W/40. I change mine when it hit oil change around 80k km. hope it helps.

Re: Case of My E90 (320i) Disappearing Oil - 1 liter every 2000++km!!

My 5 year old 320 also have the engine oil disappearing problem. I got it fixed by changing the valve seals. I also changed the oil separator for good measure.

So far so good and by the way I am using the 30 weight oil with no further issues. I maintain my car properly and in a typical singaporean kiasu manner but still such things happen, it seems rather disappointing for a low mileage user like me.
