Re: Orchard Road flooded

i think i know why we flooded. its that damn marina barrage isnt it. they stopped the water from going out to sea. the river below me now is swell to 5 steps below harrys. n its the same colour as the stuff in orchard road.

Re: Orchard Road flooded

The only difference seems to be the barrage imo

ORH!!!

"By 1987, the government had successfully completed its ten-year drive to clean up Singapore River and Kallang River. It was at this time that then prime minister Lee Kuan Yew, now minister mentor, mooted the idea of damming up Marina Basin to create a large freshwater lake."

Marina Barrage Eco-friendly Architecture

"Playing an important role in flood control, especially to Singapore’s lower lying areas such as Chinatown, Jalan Besar, Geylang and Boat Quay, its steel gates can open to release excess storm water into the sea. In addition, seven powerful drainage pumps are located next to the reservoir. These pumps are the world’s largest and are specially built in the Netherlands. Each pump has a capacity of 40m³/s and is able to drain, in one minute, the amount of water contained in an Olympic-sized swimming pool. As one of the pillars of local water supply, Marina Reservoir will meet 10% of Singapore’s current water demand."

Marina Barrage - Brief

~ Under normal conditions, the steel gates will remain closed to isolate the reservoir from the sea.
~ During heavy rain, the steel gates will open as necessary to release excess stormwater to the sea when the tide is low.
~ However, when it is not possible to do so during high tide, the Drainage Pumping Station capable of pumping up to 280 cubic metres per second will pump out the excess stormwater into the sea.

Was it high tide yesterday? Were the steel gates opened? Were the pumps working?

Re: Orchard Road flooded

PUB/Gov must assume some responsibilties in this and offer compensation to the affected people.

Losses 'in the millions'

FROM handbags costing thousands of dollars to $10 toiletries, a wide range of wares was destroyed in a flash by the flood that hit Orchard Road yesterday.
Add to that the cost of furnishings and equipment, and retailers say they are looking at millions of dollars in losses.
Among the worst-hit stores were luxury goods retailer Hermes, apparel house Massimo Dutti and three-day-old fast-food restaurant Wendy's, all at Liat Towers.

But stores at Lucky Plaza - including a Watsons outlet and a myriad of shops stocking everything from mobile phones to computer peripherals - also suffered heavy losses.

Retailers there said it was the worst instance of flooding they had seen in years, adding that they should know - the basement of the building floods every year, they said.

Some said they had lost between $8,000 and $10,000 worth of goods.

Re: Orchard Road flooded

i dont understand why on earth people took that risk to travel through the roads....not that the water suddenly came out of nowhere ...

Re: Orchard Road flooded

PUB said this flood is different from other floods because its a flash flood and water rised very quickly. Bukit Timah, they said it was a freak event due to flash flood. In Bedok North flood, they also said flooding cuz flash flood. Everything happened in a flash so they wun say sorry.

Mas Selamat also disappeared in a flash.

Mini bonds gone in a flash and the many people's money also gone in a flash.

Omar and Ken copulating in east coast bushes also over in a flash

We da best country for flashiness..

a lambo just kenna towed out fr tong building in the afternoon.. sibei sad..

Re: Orchard Road flooded

I believe the flooding is caused by illegal dumping of construction materials into the drainage system. Look at the number of constructions along Orchard road in the last 2 years. Someone is sure to be charged and PUB is sure to have the upper hand. Then they will make the guilty party pay for the damages and of course, say sorry.

Ai bet mai?
