My '09 523i, the on board computer shows low oil level. I top it up with 1 liter 10-40W oil. I would like to know from sifus here, is there such a thing as engine 'drowning' in oil, since we cant check the exact level.

Thanks.

Top up only when the engine oil low warning light asks you to top up (assuming your sensors are working).

Don't top up just because the oil level indicator 'looks' half-empty. Some fucktard workshop did that to my ride over a few visits and when I drained it for servicing there was 10 (yes TEN) liters of EO inside my engine.

And at minimum level - just 1 liter would do within 100km of the warning showing up ......

wow...you oily man sia! haha
Anyway.. seriously what's the damage in this drowning case?
will oil seeps into the cyclinder since overflowing

Re: Coming 5 years old E60

Sort of ... the EO will be whipped up by the crankshaft like beating a egg ....... EO becomes all foamy and airy then that will start flowing all over the place ..... building pressure (almost reminds me of coke fizzing out of a pet bottle) while failing to protect the moving parts. If it bust a seal along the way because of the pressure .... you will get the seeping you mention below.

Would rather under fill than over fill .......

Oily man... gotta find oilman not me hor!

RBB is right about the pressure. If you imagine normal oil press as similar to a coke bottle magnified many times, imagine 2.5times the amount of coke in the same magnified bottle. One good stroke, engine up lorry.

That's why I curse and swear at that fucktard workshop!

Re: Coming 5 years old E60

Hi, my car recently encounters stalling problem when slowing down before coming to a complete stop. Got to restart the engine. For example, when I filter out from side road to the main road, the engine stalled and the car behind honked at me as I frantically tried to restart the car. Anyone got this problem or solution as there is no faulty sign.

I changed mine with filter and I think that means the cover (or whatever they call that part).

On a separate note:
I encountered engine dying out with the car moving. At first I thought it was steering fault as that appears on the screen. Then it dawns on me that it was the engine dying hence no power steering or active steering (in my case).

Changed to a new battery and all was fine for months. Suspect my In-Car DVR eating up the power. So, new battery all was fine. Then one day we forgot to unplug power to the DVR for one night and saw the power drain message. Not too long later (days later) the engine dying out fault occurred.

Sent to mechanic and they could only see one error and it was some exhaust mechanism. Left the car for one day. They open up something and closed it back as that was not the cause. That action plus some software reset cost me S$XXX. Now without DVR plugged in, the car seems to be working well again.

Anyone encounter something similar?

Thanks

hi, just spent a few $K to do top overhaul for my GB. No faulty signal code? what is shadow code? Sent into WS but they could not diagnosed the fault. Told either to wait for signal fault to show up or upgrade software but no guarantee to cure it.
