E90 / E92 Wear and Tear Thread

Re: E90 / E92 Wear and Tear Thread

My turn to contribute to this thread finally.........:errrrrrr:

Recently whenever I turn my steering, the sound from the engine bay is bloody noisy. The more I turn, the noisier it is and sounds like ai broken liao....:shakehea::shakehea: Have been living with it for a week plus before sending it to ward (PML Alexandra Rd) this morning. Went for a test-drive with the technician and back to PML, the moment he turned into a parking lot, the whole world is paying attention to my ride... not becoz my car is chio, BUT THE BLOODY LOUD NOISE!! Suspect to be the steering pump or alternator problem...(the noise happened to be from that area). So, will know what's the real problem is this evening.

KNN, was initially told by CS to only send in my car for troubleshoot in JAN 2010 :whipper: due to heavy workload... Well, I said if my ride happened to die anytime on the road, you compensate me ah??

Other parts have been replaced so far under warranty claim are:
1. Door lock
2. Side Mirror motor

BTW, my blue boy is exactly 2 yrs old next month - done 45K so far.

Re: E90 / E92 Wear and Tear Thread

wow so much problem. i think must send to STA before i confirm the purchase of my ride

Re: E90 / E92 Wear and Tear Thread

send to a workshop that specialized in BMW is better than STA.

Re: E90 / E92 Wear and Tear Thread

After such a long time, my car is sick again.

replaced 4 ignition coils
alternator idle bearing

spend 3 hrs at the workshop and my car is purring away again :)

Re: E90 / E92 Wear and Tear Thread

I seriously didn't expect to see so many occurrences with a bmw to have faults. It certainly seems as though a Japanese car is more reliable. That's bad, I just got my e90. :errrrrrr:

It is not about fault. It is all parts has a lifespan. It is part & parcel of owning the Ultimate Driving Machine. I have no regret since driving UDM. I have been thru alternator failure, fuel pump failure & radiator bleeding screw failure.

Not that I'm saying BMW is not good. In fact there is a logical explanation that I just got to know.

I went down to one of the reputable BMW workshops recommended by the forum yesterday and they explained to me that it's because of the weather in our country, BMW is not made for a country with no 4 seasons. We have a lot of city driving and lesser of highway driving. This may be one of the contributing factors to why some parts fail prematurely.

I said 'I didn't expect to see so many occurrences with a bmw to have faults' because I used to drive a subaru year 2005 with 120k mileage and so far only the radiator has failed me. And that's because I went for tracking. The rest of the things are all stock.

Logical explanation is gain through ownership and putting in the effort to read through the forum. If 1 2 know why, look for the answer on the following questions:
1. Open up the bonnet, what is the material used for most parts?
2. What is the operating water temp for BMW?
3. How long does it take to cool down the engine bay?

Re: E90 / E92 Wear and Tear Thread

E92 323i
Mileage: 18000km
12 mnths
So far no replacements, car still new
But FC is at 14.1L per 100km!!!
Lots of water (condesation prob) leaks after i park the car

I am kinda worried with COE so high i have to hang on to my ride for at least another 3-8 years. On 3 occassions so far when i start the engine the car does not move off untill i step harder on the accelerator. Then it jerks forward (like the brake suddenly releases).

Can any bros comment on these faults? Thks

Re: E90 / E92 Wear and Tear Thread

Yeah, I am totally suprised by the interconnect material selection on the numerous oil pipings and the usage of O-rings. The oil pipings are made of very thin plastic (PC??) and sure will hardered and cracked overtime especially in such high operating temp and in our high ambient temp.

I believe BMW never conduct or didnt perform a correct reliability test on their product...Well its always high maintenance if you want sexy products....i.e both cars and gals!

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
1. Most of it are plastic
2. 100 degrees
3. This one I don't know.

From the answer above, u would know why stuff are not lasting. The move to plastic started from E39 in the 90s.

Re: E90 / E92 Wear and Tear Thread

looking from the previous posts, does this mean that the e90 is prone to more faults?
I dun want to be bombed or flamed but I am thinking of switching from jap to conti and am super afraid that e90 will cause many problems.
will a pre-purchase check be safer?

Re: E90 / E92 Wear and Tear Thread

Hi,
Anyone changed ABS Pump before and can give an indicative cost?
My ride is 335.

Re: E90 / E92 Wear and Tear Thread

I am newbie. Just bought a pre-owned 325i @ 70k mileage.. was referring to the indicator on board, it shows next servicing should be 80k.
As I totally have no service history of this car, so what are the things I should look into other than just normal servicing, or should I request the workshop to do a complete check for all possible wear & tear & replace it if necessary.

chg the wear & tear component, your ride will be ok. whn u drive it especially on highway @ 160+, you will love the ride till u forget all the trouble u experience. camry, mazda6, lancer, teana...no way near. Bring the car to ws, tell the technician to drive & check. There are so many bmw on the road, is nothing new. I changed to E90 fr corolla in Jan, after 1 mth, radiator leak, oil leak, wheel bearing wore, ignition coil burn....some more is pml service car. but after rectifying them,i love every moment whn i drive it.

Bro, try her to love her.....:lol2:
